    Small comment, Sam. It's always best to wet your filter paper with a little bit of perfumers alcohol first, especially if you're trying to filter out materials which can have solids or impurities (like Violet Leaf Absolute, true Oakmoss Absolute, pure labdanum, etc).
    Also, sometimes there can be a filter paper odor if this isn't done. So always discard the alcohol you use to wet rinse/clean your filter paper. Saw this tip from "Mountain Aromatics". His channel is also great. Cheers.

    Just a little tip for ppl using the screw caps: If you overturn them 1 or 2 complete turns in opening direction before tightening them, the pumpinghose will create some tension that prevents the screw cap to loosen and start leaking. Well the downside of this "method" is, the tension will cause damage to the pump after a few refills, so they have to be replaced from time to time

    • @sammacer

      Definitely a good idea to have them as tight as possible :)

    Hi Sam I`m happy there`s someone like you give lots of useful information about perfumery! I`m currently in the process of developing my own perfume brand and I`m starting to have a look into packaging design, legal requirements and everything that is essential to be legally selling to the market (UK mainly but EU possibly). It`s very early to think of that right now, however I want to fully understand legal compliance and attractive design for when it will be time. Could you help me identifying good designers for boxes? Yours looks well made tbh. Right now I`m 4 months in focused on learning, improving and polishing the formula for my perfume, I don`t have any background in perfumery but I`m a professional sommelier, smelling wines for 6 years and I have to say that this job is all about the nose! I`ve been blessed with a exceptional sense of smell and olfactory memory. 😃
    if you`re interested I`ll be extremely happy to send you few little samples of what I`m trying to develop, I`m hungry for feedbacks and I`m sure you`ve got plenty of useful once for me. Everything in my formula is IFRA compliant!

    I wish I had known how much of a headache these crimp bottles can be if you don't have the expensive professional crimping tool. I destroyed too many bottles already, and even if I don't, the bottle might leak, just as you told. Thanks for this very informative video. Are you going to make a video about your perfumes before you launch?

    • @sammacer
      @sammacer  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah haha I smashed the bottle by crimping too hard the first time and glass and perfume went everywhere.
      I'm not planning on a video for the perfume because the channel I assume is mostly people wanting to make their own. It's on all the social media outlets for my brand though.

    Hey there, I’ve been watching your videos here and there.While I’m not a fragrance maker myself, I found your videos very well suited for me as an avid consumer of fragrances.
    On that note, would you be interested to create a buyers guide on fragrance substances, their functions & potential dangers of them in the long term usage? I found myself very perplexed reading the contents of my fragrances and not knowing which substances are to be avoided.

    • @sammacer
      @sammacer  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately there would be no way to do this. The reason is that fragrances don't actually tell you what's in them, it's kept a secret. Just because a note is listed in the marketing doesn't indicate the presence of any one thing as sometimes smells are made by combining completely different things than you might expect.

    Thoughts on consumers relying on perfume “maceration”? One side swears by it and say their perfumes improved for the better(smell and performance-wise) after leaving it alone(but previously used) for some time, while the other side says myth(Francis Kurkdjian even reinforced that oxygen is the enemy and advised to consume the perfume “at a brisk pace” once the bottle has been opened, especially when it’s half-full). Would love to hear your input on this.

    Enjoyed the vid btw!

    • @sammacer
      @sammacer  2 роки тому

      Well, in a sense, both are correct. When you leave a perfume, anything can react and get better or worse over time. This is such a complex process, it's impossible to know beforehand as a perfumer, which is why you leave it to find out. Some perfumes will get better and round off, whereas others will degrade and become worse. The latter is especially true for citrus perfumes.
