thanks. I never found this answear anywhere. The manual says about the input, but not the outputs. Thanks for the clearing. The RNLA 7239 in the official manual says the input is unbalanced, and the output it says it's balanced but accepts unbalanced as well. By this info, the RNC is the same, accept bal or unbal outputs - through TRS or TR in the output (the advantage of unbal is to use with mix insert but mostly to mix with pedals - unbal - without a reamp box)
Thanks for the information. I just ordered one of these RNC 1773 from Reverb for a low price. Are you telling us that the Outputs can be TRS an the inputs have to be TS?
Hello, good video, great job! I am Spanish, I don't know how to speak English very well, I'm sorry. I understand that the outputs are balanced, but are the inputs unbalanced? I connect a balanced cable to the input because I have it connected to an ART TPS2 TUBE brand microphone preamplifier, and the output is balanced. Would it be convenient to connect an unbalanced cable to the input and then output the compressor's output with a balanced cable? thank you so much!
Helpful video, but I'm still confused. I consulted the RNC manual, which says that unless you're using TRS inserts (tip in, ring out) then the full stereo hookup of the unit must be done with four TS cables. It also says that if you use TRS cables on the inputs then it won't work. That doesn't make sense to me, because I used four TRS cables (L+R from mixer, RNC outs to monitors) and it sounds perfectly fine to my ears. Not sure why it "wouldn't work."
Only use a TRS connector into the RNC INPUTS if you have a "Y" or "3way" cable (1xTRS to 2xTS). It was design to send(OUTPUT) and return(INPUT) signal to and from the RNC with less cabling on consumer gear. If you plug a TRS to TRS cable to link the OUTPUT of some hardware to the INPUT of the RNC, the RNC might damage the other hardware unit as it will send signal into its OUTPUT. Some hardware can take it, some don't. Good practice is to plug balanced cable from the OUTPUT of a device into an EBTECH or Morley line level shifter +4dBU jack, then a TS to TS cable from the EBTECH -10dBv jack into the RNC INPUT. From the RNC OUTPUT, you can connect a balanced TRS cable to a balanced TRS or XLR INPUT of the next device.
@@chykomoney1085from what I understand, that’s correct. TS cable from your preamp unbalanced output to the IN from the RNC; then, the OUT of the RNC with TRS to TRS / TRS to XLR to the input of your interface.

I’ve been doing this long enough to be able to hear the difference between the sound of the plug going into a balanced vs unbalanced input. What happens if you put the blue cheese dressing in it?
I believe it definitely impacts sound quality. The only way to mitigate this issue is by using high quality cables like Mogami for the inputs and trying to run them short from your source.

Thank you for clearing this up! I got a racked pair of RNC'c for $200 recently.

Yes, that is what he's saying.
not necessarily its not the end of the world. just gotta be careful about noise and where youre sending your signal.

Nice. Most analog mixera under $10,000 have unbalanced inserts anyway.
Not sure i get the end ? yes trs balanced out to balanced input on mixer ,but run his mic threw the rnc ? but the input is unbalanced ?

Does the unbalanced inputs present a problem for the final sound quality.... Say running out from an audio interface to use it as an outboard unit?

Although the device still works for some genres where pristine sound quality is not required.
