most conditioners actually specify to use them wet hair.People like to squeeze out excess water to not thin out the conditioner/mask. Oil in conditioner is formulated with emollients therefore it does not repel water so dry hair isn't better. There is however debate about dry vs wet conditioning since curly girls soak their hair and straight haired girls squeeze out the water. Try both, it probably won't make a difference.
I never used to wear sunscreen on the daily, but I do now since I've started watching you because I can imagine how you'd react to that and I don't think I could handle the disappointment 😂
You guys are cute. I'm a 45 year old lady who had melanoma at 14. Sun damage is the #1 cause of wrinkles and skin discoloration. I have been so careful with my skin and it really shows now. My sister and my friends have so much sun damage - their skin is very uneven in color and they all have a lot more wrinkles than me. I honestly have hardly any wrinkles and people are always surprised by my age. Keep protecting your skin, because it pays off big time when you hit your 40s!
I like Head&Shoulders, I don't get why people criticize it so much. If I use a regular shampoo, with time my scalp gets really itchy and oily. I like that H&S feels like it's refreshing the scalp.
Here's the thing though: there's a difference between a dry scalp and dandruff. Dandruff is a fungus while dry scalp is just the same as a dry face. I think most people see flakes and assume it's dandruff when they really just have a dry scalp.
the 'dont apply conditioner to wet hair' depends on your hair texture as well as your hair porosity. if you have high porosity hair it isn't really an issue. likewise if you have super curly or kinky/coily hair applying conditioner to wet hair adds for easy application. though typically once applied we put a plastic cap over it for 15 mins to get that penetration anyway! as you said, hair is personal
I used to get “acne cosmetica” or acne caused by hair products in my hairline and nape of the neck. Awwww, that subject about marks of styling products on hair is connected to one of my favourite memories, my grandma used to use so much of hairspray, that when she was outside the slightest breeze caused falling a tone of white little strings off of her head
I'm 49 and only learned how to wash my hair properly in the last month!!! So it's not that obvious. Well done. Too much product build up can cause your hair to fall out too. It blocks the pores and makes it hard for new growth to come through. I wash perhaps twice a week now and I use a scalp scrub once a week to keep the scalp clear. I use one with mint in it so it invigorates the scalp also.
How is it these brothers always know what I need to learn from makeup and skincare or just a break from reality?!? I literally noticed today that “buildup” problem on my hair, and it looks flat. Thank you for all your advice! Love you, James 💜💜💜

Yay! I have horrible hair (fine fibres but sooooo many of them) and it’s so messy, knotty, if I grow it then it goes wavy, but not in the pretty way, it has bits that are straight and bits that are very curly. And since my health has got really bad, it now falls out in handfuls, looks dull and horrible... and my scalp is always HORRIBLE. I think I have eczema or psoriasis on my scalp, but I don’t have any time to see anyone about that because I am trying to figure out my more urgent health issues... The great news is that shaving it all short really helps my scalp and hair stay healthy. And I love it short! My daughter (7.5yrs) has hair all the way down to her butt, and wants “Rapunzel” hair. THANKFULLY! Her hair is fine and delicate, but naturally straight, healthy and lovely! We have been using the frizz ease feather light products on her hair recently because it gets slightly dry, but also gets oily easily. It seems to balance it out perfectly by making it happy and shiny but not weighing it down. I found a cute pot of “hair food” with some kind of nice fruit in from the chemist and she loves that. I’m pretty sure it’s just a pot of conditioner but occasionally it just helps make her hair happy when she has been in the sun a lot or swimming or to the beach lots!

I think this video is helpful, however I would’ve loved to hear you say at the top of the video whether or not these tips applies to all textures of hair or some (based on your expertise in the salon you worked at). As a coily haired person, some of the advice left me with questions about your thoughts for various curl patterns and/or porosity. Thank you for sharing :)
the day is finally here, who would've thought really enjoyed this video. I recently started looking into sulfate free shampoos and would love to hear your opinion on it. Maybe you could review some popular hair care brands in terms of ingredients.
As someone with dry skin (Rosecea, Keratosis Pilaris and Seborrheic dermatitis) I do think that Head and Shoulders is good for dry flaky scalps but I also find that it’s pretty drying even doing it 2 times a week. I feel like I at least need to use it 2 times a week for it to be affective and that’s using the product correctly. I need to find another product for my dandruff prone scalp that’s cleans and hydrates my scalp. So in short make sure you use it correctly and watch out for dryness.
I've been struggling with dry, flaky and itchy scalp and I've tried lots of shampoo containing zinc, ketoconazole, salicylic acid, tea tree and coal tar. I evem tried shampoo for sensitive skin (e45). NOTHING WORKED except after I tried a hair scalp massager brush i bought from amazon. After 1st use, there was literally a result. Now it doesn't matter which shampoo I use as long as i use that brush regularly. ❤
I completely agree! Head and Shoulders is great for me in the winter, especially living in Canada where the air gets SUPER dry, leaving my skin and hair dry too. I find that I really only need to use it in the really dry months, usually January and maybe February
Years ago I used to get perms and multiple hair stylists told me that Head and Shoulders would take a perm out very quickly. Thanks for all the great tips!
Apply shampoo to the root, and apply conditioner to the ends of the hair. OMG! I was applying shampoo and conditioner all over my hair. Thank you so much, James!
I hope there will be more contant about hair and hair treatments, i find many videos but they are so confusing unlike the way you explain things, I learned a lot from you, Thank you, and I really wish if you continue doing that about hair products and hair treatments.
loved this! if you could maybe do a "basics" series for hair, with like a rundown for which actives are good for which problems etc (i have oily itchy scalp and pretty much 99% of the shampoos i use itch so bad i get little bruises all over my scalp and i'm so done but i have no idea what should i look for so that it stops)
I also use head and shoulders. Important is if you have sensitive hair scalp or if it this product too strong for you just dilute it FIRST with water. Do not put the product directly on your scalp and it works wonders
The conditioner in towel dried hair is news to me. In my shower, I shampoo, rinse, face cleanse, rinse, condition, body wash, rinse. All without interrupting the water flow.
This was fantastic to watch! I loved the myth part. I have psoriasis and it mainly is on my scalp, so shampoos like head and shoulders are a much. I also like how you add in the part that hair care is personal. I get a lot of crap because I wash my hair everyday. But if I didn't I would literally have sores on my scalp from how itchy and sensitive it gets. Thank you for always putting in stuff like that
pls do more hair care stuff !! i literally don't even know the BARE MINIMUM and if i search up things like "how to fix dry frizzy hair" or something, they're mostly natural remedies.
I know you always say "this is my personal opinion" "this is personal and what works on me" on your videos but there's just a big energy that screams "YOU SHOULD BE DOING THIS" and I bloody love it! 🤩😍
Hi James! Love your channel and love that you make quality content with actual professional tips! I am a licensed cosmetologist and have worked in a salon for a few years as an assistant manager, and I will say I love that you mentioned the importance of washing your hair properly because that is so crucial to healthy hair, but in loving constructive criticism I do have to disagree with the head and shoulders. I’m sorry!😭 But the truth is, yes there are ingredients in it that do help with dandruff, however the main concern and problem with head and shoulders and most drugstore shampoos have other ingredients besides that and what happens to your hair follicles over time from using drugstore shampoos is the ingredients in them will clog your hair follicles and once the hair follicles become clogged overtime the hair will begin thinning. Especially in men’s hair, I see it all the time with clients that use head and shoulders! The hair begins to thin and eventually will seal over and that’s when men begin to see balding. Once it has sealed over the damage becomes permanent. If you use this product only when you’re having a problem with dandruff that is totally fine. But I always recommend other alternatives to head and shoulders. My favorite is Matrix biolage scalpsync. I don’t think you use head and shoulders everyday lol but just a little warning for this product!
Thanks James, I was really waiting for this, I wash my hair everyday for last 12 years, I have oily scalp. Every tip is very useful. I’m using some of skin care products you recommend, loving it, I’ll try head & shoulders! Thank you 😊 the way your skin looks flawless as always ❤️
1. Co-wash is washing your hair with the specific type of conditioners like these without the silicone. So basically you can do that, you just have to find the right type. If the conditioner have really high oils amount in INCI it can indeed make your hair flatter. Not rinsing properly may be also the cause. Co-wash is widely practiced by people with curly hair. Co-wash is recommended to try if you have very sensitive skin :) 2. Scalp massage helps hair growth :) you can do that daily on dry scalp. 3. I think it might be less effective when hair is really soaking wet cause people usually don’t leave the conditioner for long enough. If you have straight hair, great technique for applying con. Is to brush it in while washing your hair. 4. (Pls Don’t use shampoos with the silicone in it unless you have specific issues with your scalp ) 5. Head&Shoulders is not the best option for flaky, irritated or sensitive scalp! It contains harsh detergents like SLS. If we avoid this for our face, why use it on our scalp? The better option to minimize the scalp issues is to switch to milder detergents. Ps. We have a big haircare community in my country. The girls on fb groups are really hooked on their hair! The results of proper knowledge is seen in the effects. @smartredhair (IG) is an amazing vlogger. Her hair speak for itself :)
I have hair which is very oily in the roots and dry on the ends. Due to oily roots even if I cleanse it well drying them up takes a bit of time and effort (blow drying them till the very dry state makes them grease faster but if I let them air dry it takes centuries and my sinusitis hits so bad after)😭 So I discovered 3 things that reduces my root oiliness and let me wash every 2-3days: first, using scalp scrubs for deep cleanse; second I let my shampooed hair chill on for couple of extra minutes on my head; and the last I use Tar Soap as one of the cleanse stages (usually first soap, then the shampoo as a second cleanse and scrub in between). Now I rock clean and voluminous hair for the next 2days 😋
'I know a lot of us know [not to apply conditioner to wet hair] by now'... Yeah I 100% knew that 👀👀 Been watching you and Robert and stepping my game up make up and skin and now hair wise since lockdown! I just conditioned after towel drying and oh my god! I feel so glossy and moisturised!!! Cannot thank you enough 💕
James! Thank you so much for this video! I went into it with the premise of helping my brother with his hair care and ended up getting tips for my mother and myself as well 😁 so thank you! Please consider making more.
Love the print of that high neck top 😍 I need so badly a recommendation of gentle, color safe, effective cleansing capabilities of shampoo, and also a conditioner that doesn’t leave residue but really leaves her very soft. Omg so hard to find. And the worst is, even if I find good ones, I have to switch them after while cause my scalp and hair gets “used to it” and it stops working. Ugh. So hard.
I did notice that when I put in conditioner/ treatment on wet hair it just slips off. I don't towel dry but definitely try to squeeze(?) out as much water as I can
Yay, finally a hair vid. It's really hard to find much info about hair 😔 my hair's been getting thinner and kinda falling out more these few weeks and I'm at a lost because I don't understand the ingredients. We know so much of what to do for our face but not what to search for when it come to hair. If you do do another hair video, I'd love to hear more about ingredients that are good for which types of scalp conditions, aging scalp, hair fall etc. 😊 Also my hairdresser mentions things like rotating shampoos are really important, so maybe a hair regiment? Like what types of shampoos to keep in rotation, are tonics needed, hair mask, when and how often to deep cleanse. How to choose an affordable shampoo that is good too 😁 I'm asking a lot and I thank you in advance ❤️ I have no idea where to start. All I found out was ginseng and biotin.
If anyone is ever on the hunt for a drugstore salicylic acid shampoo, Neutrogena T/Sal is amazing! I use it about every 3rd hair wash and I love how much it helps my scalp!
The conditioner tip !! 😵 I did not know that! Also liked the ‘cleansing’ dry shampoo-ing tip I wouldn’t of thought that either. Love your top by the way! Thanks James x

Me: James what about “sometimes hair?”
James: HERE! HAPPY NOW?
Thank you for always putting in stuff like that
I adore your turtleneck. ♥♥
What is it with you, Welsh brothers, and criticizing your DIY haircuts? It looks pretty okay. 🙂
What are the shapes on it called?
@@sharroon7574 Those are crescents and quatrefoils.
pls do more hair care stuff !! i literally don't even know the BARE MINIMUM and if i search up things like "how to fix dry frizzy hair" or something, they're mostly natural remedies.
I think you’re hair looks great, you can tell you take really good care of it, it’s healthy.
I would literally love more hair videos. Please!
I know you always say "this is my personal opinion" "this is personal and what works on me" on your videos but there's just a big energy that screams "YOU SHOULD BE DOING THIS" and I bloody love it! 🤩😍
Haha ☺️❤️❤️
THANK YOU 🙏🏻 Head and Shoulders is the only shampoo that doesn’t irritate my scalp (that’s affordable)
I’m a guy with very thin long hair. Not balding but fine thin hair. I’m very careful when shampooing because I can get a lot of fallouts
Okay, I’m still stumped over apply shampoo to DRY hair! The directions on shampoo 🧴 instruct to apply to wet or damp hair. More, more, more! Please.
The Inkey List will launch 8 hair treatments in 4th June, I need your review before the launch 🥺
Love how you link haircare with skincare in the context! Keep doing you mate!
Co-wash is recommended to try if you have very sensitive skin :)
2. Scalp massage helps hair growth :) you can do that daily on dry scalp.
3. I think it might be less effective when hair is really soaking wet cause people usually don’t leave the conditioner for long enough. If you have straight hair, great technique for applying con. Is to brush it in while washing your hair.
4. (Pls Don’t use shampoos with the silicone in it unless you have specific issues with your scalp )
Finally hair care tips from someone I actually trust! Thank you! Can’t wait to see more hair content!
I use head and shoulders. It is a good product for my scalp type.
Call it luck. I was just searching for new hair products nd here ur video pops up for all the help i need.
I’m almost 43 years old and no one has ever told me about conditioner not being applied to wet hair. The more you know...this was awesome
It’s about time!! I been looking forward to hair care videos. Please continue talking about hair.
Yeah I 100% knew that 👀👀
Been watching you and Robert and stepping my game up make up and skin and now hair wise since lockdown!
Love the print of that high neck top 😍
I need so badly a recommendation of gentle, color safe, effective cleansing capabilities of shampoo, and also a conditioner that doesn’t leave residue but really leaves her very soft.
Omg! The 'sometimes hair' that we've been waiting for!!!! :D
😅
🖤 Thanks for being so good to us for really reading comments & always coming through. You’re amazing !!
Yes some great tips and really appreciate the explanation between dandruff and flakey scalp and how/when to use different products, thank you!💜
I was wondering when u were going to to “sometimes hair” that you say Im your intro 😂
Super useful! I would love to watch another hair related video from you!
What a fun video! Loved hearing all the info and learnt new tricks! Also I LOVE your top!!! Need one for myself
Loving these "and sometimes hair" tips! I would love to see more videos of hair care, especially how to condition dyed dry hair.
The conditioner tip !! 😵 I did not know that!
Also liked the ‘cleansing’ dry shampoo-ing tip I wouldn’t of thought that either.
Love your top by the way!
Thanks James x
would love a video on how to choose haircare products/what ingredients to avoid!!!
I just started to watch you and I have no idea why I have never heard or seen you on media... Wtf you're so awesome
i know everyones talking about the "and sometimes hair" but i just CANNOT stop staring at that cutie mimikyu!!!
summer hair cut was the first video which i saw . have been a subscriber since the. really happy to see your channel grow. want to see cross that million mark really soon❤️❤️
Love head & shoulders! Great cleansing and shampoo. Also great for body acne. Took a medication that caused my back to breakout :( my naturalpathic doctor told me to use head & shoulders as a body wash. Less then a wk & it was gone.
YES. Can you make a video for dandruff, please?
Please recommend some hair care products! I have a very similar skin and hair/scalp type to you, and so far a lot of your skincare advice has worked on me. Would love to extend that advice onto my hair as well!
Seriously?? *Towel dry the hair before going in with the conditioner??* Why have i NEVER NEVER heard this before?
The hype for "sometimes hair" day is real.
I love head and shoulders shampoo too. I m so happy you said about it
Where was this when I needed it??? I shaved my head during quarantine!!! 😭😭😭 still a great vid though. Glad we got that “sometimes hair”
Edit: I absolutely DID NOT know you should apply conditioner to towel dried hair???😑
Same, took the clippers and went at it. My poor stylist is going to freak if we ever get to go out again.
Keep them coming. It was great advice specially since I do suffer from a flaky scalp and most of my wardrobe is black or dark colors due to my job requirements
Thank You for sharing May I suggest looking at the hair experts Brad Mondo and Guy Tang , both are very knowledgeable about hair stuff .
I’m glad I watched this! I had no idea about which section of my hair I was meant to use shampoo or conditioner. 🤔 Learned something! Cheers, for that, James!
There are more natural conditioners without silicones and have good slip😊
Holdup holdup conditioner doesn't go on wet hair?? Why have I never hear about this before 😩 So how long do you let it sit before rinsing it out? Am I to just stand in the shower and wait with the water off? Do I know anything? Who am I? What is life?
