i could imagine it’s kinda like clothes - they’re all manufactured in the same warehouses and shipped to different stores. for example: ross dress for less sells american eagle jeans for way less than american eagle does. idk much about skincare and i could be wrong this is just a feeling i have but maybe they’re produced in the same warehouses and then shipped out to different stores?

tiktok makes sense since some sellers do sell official products and tiktok gives the shops discount codes, i’ve ordered from a seller called twenties beauty who sells authentic k beauty, and tick took had a 40% off promo so i got my items for cheaper.

While it’s important that you’re highlighting these fake products, it pisses me off to no end that there’s no accountability for these companies and no liability for Amazon, Temu, etc. This is extremely problematic for the legit companies, but in the end, it’s the consumer who pays the price.

@monas, I completely agree. There is no decent recourse for us, the consumers. We waste (very hard earned) money during this horrid cost of living crisis. I know I don't have the time to drill down on products and companies - too many misdirecting layers to zero information. This is just one reason I follow James - he's knowlegeable and honest, and to this older American lady, quite easy on the eyes.

My best guess for Amazon [can't speak for the already sketchy websites like TEMU and Wish] I think it's that they use that argument that online platforms use to avoid responsibility for people posting racist/sexist/etc content. "Well that's not US though, THEY did that, not US. Punish THEM." kind of dealies ... but also probably that that Market of fakes has gotten so big Amazon only sees the $$$$$$$ rolling in. Like how a certain website still lets places like 5Minute Crafts exist with their literally fake and dangerous content because their massive viewership farms make too much money for this certain website to enforce it's own rules.
Like if you got on Amazon and sold these dupes you'd probably be gone by the 1st report - but these other "retailers" are probably just too big.

Just FYI for americans (idk if the UK sephora do this or not) all Sephora stores now take empties! You have to take the pumps out, but theyll take any empties it doesnt have to be bought from them or anything. So i save up all my empties and bring them into a Sephora once a month. I live in WA so i cant recycle glass, but they take glass so i love recycling through Sephora🙌

    • @kitm141

We only have one Sephora store in the UK, it’s a tragedy! But our council recycling programs are pretty good, so we can recycle glass and hard plastic from home.

Very little of the plastic you "recycle" actually gets recyled, less than 10%, if that. It makes you feel good is all. I wish there was a way to bring that number up. Personally I think we should get rid of plastic all together for as many products as we can.

Robert always says that cheap makeup isn't a problem, but fake makeup is. There is no way of knowing what's in those products, if they've been tested for safety, etc. If big brands like Claire's can get caught with toxic contamination, imagine these brands that are not regulated at all.

I tend to purchase directly from the brand, which I think is best (Brand site always has coupons, specials, etc.). Otherwise, I only purchase via a trusted retailer, I.e., Sephora, Ulta, Credo… Why take a chance on crappy products that may use questionable, or dangerous, ingredients when you can buy the real thing? Much like fast fashion, I think people lose sight when they see a low dollar value. I do understand that the ability to purchase quality products is a privilege; however, there are great products available at a very low price point, especially if you buy directly from the brand.

I stopped getting any skincare from Amazon after a legit looking toner turned out to be some fake denatured alcohol with scent. I bought it from the brand “store” on Amazon too, but any seller can still show up in there.

Wait, really?? I've bought several CosRX products from Amazon, but the only reason I trusted it was because CosRX's official site linked to an Amazon page, and I checked that the seller said CosRX and not someone else. Is it still possible I got fakes??

You need to check the seller by the price. Not the generic storefront. That's how you get it from the real brands.

@@pentabulous5018 For the beauty department stock is automatically not mixed. No special labels are needed. They've done it for years now. It's why so many brands have opened up their own stores and sell there now. This is even listed in the seller info on Amazon. You're spreading old and outdated info that's been gone for years at this point.

This is both interesting and horrifying at the same time haha. Anyway, I already stopped using anything besides Sun screen and simple moisturizer. I have tried almost EVERYTHING to look younger + delay aging as much as possible, anything from face exercises, vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight), home devices and what not. However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for under 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. I don't look like I'm 18 again, but definitely not 41 either. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less are nonexist. People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin

+1 for kora beauticaIs. I've been doing microneedling since it started 12 or so years ago. Nobody believe I am 55. They all say I am in my 30's or early 40's. As you know, as we get old, our skin gets thinner therefore creating wrinkles. But the wounding kept my skin still thick and youthful. Your comment will help so many women to restore their skin..

I'd love to see you do a deep dive into the comparison of the ingredients label. There are many companies that sell knock off fragrances that come pretty close. They never seem to last as long, but worth it for daily wear & save the real stuff for better occasions. But skin care is something else. I expect to see results after a length of continued use. Some may be trying to copy ingredients, where others are just packaging fragranced lube. I did try buying several mascaras that were obvious dupes from Temu. They were ALL not worth the money. Just like only adding a tint to your lashes. Don't waste your money.

I got a gel wash from burts bees that was so SO strongly fragranced. The only reason I was able to finish it was because it was so liquidy it just shot right out of the bottle every time I opened it. I usually hate fragrance in my skincare because I can't test them out beforehand to know if I like it or not. I can't imagine how the room smelled for this video D:

I don't have the global product knowledge necessary to spot dupes, so I never ordered any skincare from temu-like websites.
Is it a lesser known brand that sells out of temu officially and genuinely uses their own well made products? or is it a dupe from a brand that i've never heard of any contains who knows what as ingredients?

Something else that people might not consider when buying dups/Temu/TikTok Shop/Wish/AliExpress etc is that the original may be cruelty free/PETA approved however certain cosmetics in China are required to be tested on animals before they can be released to the public. So where people might think they are buying cruelty free products they are actually purchasing things that have been tested on animals.

I bought a Sadoer vitamin C lip balm from Temu and it's lovely for a basic lip balm. It was about 50p. I pretty much get most of my skincare from Yes Style. I would love for you to do a review of Wildmint though as I love their stuff. It's really helped my skin approach normal again after chemotherapy wrecked it.

please don't put these cheap temu items on your face no matter how good it might perform. I highly doubt that these random Chinese manufacturers follow any safety regulations. You have no idea what they put into this (can't even trust the label) and since they aren't regulated they could potentially put some dangerous things in there, stuff like lead and arsenic just to stretch out the product... (Also no regulations = no hygienic production = lots of eww) a basic lip balm will also only cost you like 1$ at a normal, regulated drug store where you won't risk your health.

It’s so scary how good the fakes can be! It’s like shopping for designer brands, how there is a whole black market industry producing copies without regulations. It can be really hard to tell if something is authentic when buying from a 3rd party vendor. I stick to retailers and websites I trust and even go directly to the actual brand’s website when they’re not carried by Sephora, Ulta, or another legitimate supplier. I do not want my money supporting shady business.
