Yep! I never witnessed them dying in real time but I know at each point of their time I was a watcher!

Get ready to see more die… Cable tv is dying
Yeah, TV channels always felt like just a fact of life. Like it's always there and always will be. Until it's not...
"Thats it for Xplay tonight, catch us tomorrow night. We are here every night". God i miss old G4
Same. During the summers when I was a kid/ teen, I’d stay up the whole night into the early mornings watching G4!
Code Monkeys was amazing too
Is it an old 2003 broadcast?

It was awesome, but UA-cam channels are a thousand times better.
@@Crayolapupyes techtv before the g4 merge
G4's was honestly really nice, but the rest feel so sad in how abrupt and sudden they all are. No goodbyes, no proper closures, and for most of them no real forewarning. Just the plug getting pulled.
Such as life...
EDIT: MOST of them, not the REST
the announcer on Speed said good night and farewall, so there was a goodbye there
Then G4 came back for a year, did a host reunion, then dipped again. It’s tough
G4 died long before 2014 though. At that point X-Play and Attack of the Show’s best years were behind them.
All the other good shows like Cheat! and Icons were dead by 2009 and all G4 showed besides Attack of the Show and X-Play from like 2010 onward was Cops and American Ninja Warrior all day long
They kept playing marathons of Japanese shows and only had a few original content shows at night.
Daddy Comcast is the reason they failed twice.
Speed TV was doomed from the start, they went from Speedvision, which covered all motorsports, to Speed TV, which might as well have been called the Nascar channel. Alienated a lot of viewers who were into endurance racing, Indycar, F1, rally, and superbikes. Speedvision was a channel for real racing fanatics, they would broadcast lawnmower races, guys in Iowa in front of a crowd of 100 people racing lawnmowers that could go like 70mph, it was wild.
I remember waking early to watch Monster Jam reruns on Speed; when I got hooked on the topic in 2010/11. Such good memories
MavTV on direct tv hss random stuff like that at times.
Didn't help that NASCAR itself alienated true fans and their own ratings tanked and are still falling.
What killed Speed was the "Family, God, and Country" right-wing attitude that turned off a lot of potential viewers
It was pretty much for those racing
Heads who loves nascar and intensity
Of vroom vroom vroom.
Never thought a simple game of pong could unnerve me like that
Right? Kinda wish i had never seen it now.
I love that G4 went out the exact same way it came in - a semingly never-ending Pong game. I remember watching G4 Pong the days leading up to the programming starting.
What was the final score of the starting game? :)
There’s something just so eerie about the basic white text on the dark backgrounds…
Ooooooo spooooky.😱
Kind of reminds me of anti-piracy screens in video games in how unnerving they are.
Average super weenie hut junior enjoyer
god y'all haven't seen enoigh spooky things
The topic of the video in general is eerie to me
A channel going off air is very likely one of the first times a young child will see "death" (or the end of something that previously was thought to be never-ending) in the moment

kids will never understand how great g4 was a channel for the gamers
90's G4 was great. The network started going downhill around 2006. The started adding shows like COPS, Cheaters, and Arrested Development. Every show about gaming got cancelled except X-play.
@@shanechannel7066 yea i remember that very well. and we still would watch xplay even if they were reruns. but g4 was just peak for gaming. and we were able to watch e3 presentations too man what a time
@@davidfulwood2740 ironically, X-play originally came from TechTV after the merger. It was the only show keeping g4 alive.
Hearing Guilty Gear sounds, on Television Program, in 2000s when the game where released, in clear and loud noise, in USA, is kinda odd for me.
@@megamanZXdelta I remember international sexy ladies show 😏
I watched G4 shut down..i loved that channel..RIP..even the revival failed
G4 in the early to mid 2000s is what Game Informer was for video game magazines of the 90s. The reaction from folks who beloved it is still felt till this day.
Was never an avid watcher... but a memory always sticks out to me. Me and my dad moved into a new house and I remember I was home alone with a TV on the ground we didn't even have furniture yet and while a little scared, I came across g4 and watched all night. I eventually fell asleep to the channel showing gameplay footage compilations- it was great. For some reason that memory has stuck with me.
The revival deserved to fail.
Then it returned to die a second death.
Blame frosk and sessler for that subject.😑
@@NemoPounceyWhat happened with that btw

@kingbaltimore20 I was confused for a sec cuz I knew VH1 was still around in the US lol
They had bills to pay.
Did it only shut down in the UK because I'm pretty sure it's still a watchable channel in the US last time I checked
0:10 Adam Sessler lied to us!!!

Never trust a junkie
Morgan Webb lied too
Losing G4 hurt the most. Used to watch E3 coverage every year and now we don't even have E3 anymore.
Social media and the surge of game media outlets killed E3. Glad I got to go to one, met Akira Yamaoka.
22:36 June 21st, 1982 - October 27th, 1983 Dang short life

Until now, I never heard of that channel. It only lasted a year, and my cable company didn’t carry it.

@@michaelbonner4126 maybe it's because of the likes of your comment
I miss G4. Me, my dad and brother would watch it everyday. My dad would wait outside for game releases and get us new consoles and games. RIP pops.
Weird to me to see all the nostalgia for G4, when I'm old enough to still see them as the villain who killed TechTV.
That’s always what I think of them as too. TechTV was so good. Indescribable.
It was the merger that killed both of them as they were. I'm assuming both were struggling and merged to save themselves but it ended up alienating both. Tech tv sucked though, all their shows were garbage like X-Play... I think that's all they had. I'll never understand what it was like before though so I get it.
Nostalgia is the greatest drug ever
@@AshtonHutchinsonyah I think they only “merged” bc TechTV was going under. But I actually loved X-Play. It was my favorite show on TechTV and was clearly a fan favorite since it was one of only a few shows G4 kept after the merge. And it was the last show they played before G4 ultimately shut down. I’m sure that was on purpose bc of all the love for it. Especially because it isn’t even an episode that originally would have aired on G4 lol.
I honestly love the farewell to the SNC i thought it was very sweet seeing everyone knowing its their last day and just goofing off as well as all the names of all the workers, so much thought put into it as opposed to all the others im surprised no one is talking about it
It’s really charming how it is and I honestly wish more channels went out like SNC did
Watching G4 with friends back in the day and enjoying the Kingdom Hearts cutscenes theyd play sometimes instead of commercials were peak teenage years
Yeeeahh, they'd show those gameplay clips, even games that never made it outside of Japan. They showed Coded Age Commanders, which was the first time I had ever seen anything flashy like Kingdom Hearts and all that. I was like WE NEED THIS HERE NOW!
There used to be so many companies, so much opportunity....everything's been funneled into a few big streaming services now.
Media has always been a special club, don't worry. UA-cam is better
There’s like a million streaming services now and it’s a problem. I wish there were only a few because that would be convenient.
@RugBug18 But all of the streaming services are from already massive billion-dollar corporations (Netflix, NBC, Paramount, Amazon)
Like, if you're not already a massive company, flush with capital, you cannot start a new streaming service, and break into that market. And, as streaming continues, more and more of these companies are going to merge together, creating even fewer, and even bigger monopolies.
There used to be more opportunity for smaller companies to get into television.
@@lanceluna9781 video servicing is not cheap. That's why the platforms will almost always whittle themselves down to who can afford to burn that kind of capital for x number of years.
Yup, and all the channels on TV now are just regurgitations of each other because they all have maybe 3 or 4 parent comapnies. You surf all the channels that used to be dedicated to certain things, now they just have the same classic TV shows and whatever movies. I love King of Queens, but when it's on literally 5 different channels, I eventually said F it, Peacock has all the episodes, no commercials.
RIP SPEED Channel. Though getting that last year (2013) of Fox on SPEED felt like an extra life. Thought it was going to be gone at the end of 2012. Racing hasn't been the same since.
For real, it feels like they keep channel hopping so much more due to conflicting programs than on SPEED.
Admitting to watching any Fox channel is embarrassing 😂

How are you now?

G4 signed its own death warrant after the Tech TV merger. They axed all the best shows and replaced them with reruns of slop like Cheaters that had absolutely nothing to do with gaming. It was a miracle that the channel lasted as long as it did.
Absolutely. At least we were exposed to Sasuke Ninja Warrior before the end. That was great before American Ninja Warrior crap.
@@midnightfury4584I don't get what people see in American Ninja Warrior, to be honest. It just doesn't appeal the same to me
@@kingbaltimore20 they are the exact same. The difference is the people who loved the Japanese version dont speak Japanese or know about japanese tv. Makes a huge difference in how it is perceived
@@Luminousreign that's fair
It should've been the easiest merger that combines the best of tech and gaming, but instead of keeping the old shows and creating new ones, they tried to appeal to the Dudebros and the channel turned to shit. Not even Filter was safe.

That Vh1 ending was abysmal
So are the cartoon network and cartoonito shutdowns. They just played a logo and nothing else. I don't understand why no one can actually shutdown a station or network properly.
@@mapletouqe Well it's not as simple as just pressing the button and since no one cared about those channels, the broadcasters decided to just display intermission graphics while they were shutting down broadcast, as opposed to other channels who displayed ending messages while shutting down
@konepe1653 I understand it isn't that simple, but some of these stations at least could have said something like "We have now ended operations", as some of them just had the repeated logo of their network playing, with no real context, which could have been seen as maybe they had some technical difficulties.
@@mapletouqe That still required effort, they already have made intermissions so might as well use them instead of wasting time and effort to make new graphics

Thats crazy for cartoon network to go off air anywhere
Discovery is working on killing it for good. They killed the website in August, and are working in making it more adult and family friendly instead of content strictly for kids.
TBF, I guess kids aren't watching CN.
For those who only speak English and want to know what these messages said:
39:14
So apparently Spain just ended service based on this message, and the message below is a recommendation for additional children's programming on channels 70 thru 81. Not sure wtf happened there, CN, but okay. This is also the same message that is shown later for the Cartoonito channel, which apparently was Spain's replacement for Boomerang.
40:02
So this says that Disney Channel (the original one at the top) is no longer being sold as part of Paid TV after November '13 as per an agreement. This means that in November the channel will be shut down to change operations. The channel will return in January 2014 as a free channel (similar to PBS Kids. Before, Disney Channel was like Boomerang where you have to buy the cable to get it.) Below it clarifies that Disney's satellite channels (Cinemagic, Junior and XD) will not be impacted by this change.
-🖊
Edit: So we did a bit more research, and apparently Spain had a "Pay TV Crisis" as a result of 2008. So Cartoon Network and it's subsidiary Boomerang, now-then known as Cartoonito, dipped from Spain because of this. Spain's entertainment market is also in an active shift away from cable and towards streaming, so channel closures will likely continue even now.
Also, anyone miss Jetix? We liked the little mascot dude as kids. We also remember G4 for Ninja Warrior. Those were good times, out of a lot of bad ones.
Jesus, Jetix closed in August 2010, we were only 8 years old for two months when that happened. 😳
Also, apparently G4 had something called "G-Spot Shorts" of which Wikipedia only lists one show, Filter, as part of that group. Please tell us why the fuck you'd name something THAT when it's a family channel... 😭
Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia trip. And kudos to UA-cam Recommended for throwing us something genuinely interesting instead of another livestream with a whopping 3 views.
