July 24, 2011 was an important day in Japanese television history in that television stations across the country ceased broadcasting on their analog signals. What was unique about this was that every television station had to transmit an information screen between noon and midnight on that day on the analog signal. 24:00 is probably the best one (WFTV-Orlando). It actually make it feel more special, the whole little tidbit of history lesson they threw in. Then all you see is this little cat onscreen just fade out gradually instead of abruptly cutting off. These Florida folks sure knew how to end an era. Also, the WFAA-TV signoff is pretty unique, and hits close to home because some family lives in that channel's broadcast area.
It’s got everything. A nod to the history and sign on date of the station, giving thanks to the people who started it, the help line number in case viewers need it, then a gentle fade out. Very classy.
sad the two stations representing my state here -WHDH and WSBK- didn't do anything special for the occasion, especially the latter given it's mark on tv history as a once national superstation in the analog era

Biggest problem was your indoor antenna, the analog picture at least gave you idea of what direction to point it in, digital is just guesswork, and much more frustrating.
I love the one that played its the end of the world as we know it during their final moments of analog transmission. Something about that clip is very poetic
Very cool. In my city, analog got shutdown way long back in 2013 itself and I'm from India. I was excited that time. Nowadays I miss those days of analog. They were great.
The death of analog was basically the end of a revolutionary era of old technology/the first plants of the industrial revolution and in the end, how fleeting some of even the more historic inventions in general can get (especially if it's from tech). I was born FAR past the golden age of analog (born in 2003 and was in the suburbs at the time but grew up to a more rural neighborhood after the great recession) and don't really remember watching it but seeing how impactful it was for a huge outreach for other cultures to be exposed to a bigger Audience, it's unbelievable how much the TV has gotten even with cable not being as popular as it was even a decade ago. Same thing with radio with how the phone basically killed the popularity of it to a lesser extent even with apps like Radio Garden carrying the legacy of it going to a new generation of people wanting to know how their parents used to watch/hear new material at the time (with it being an aesthetic to some) even with all the hurdles of them.
I also wonder when the Transmitter and Repeater stations had to go DTV. Repeater and Transmitter stations broadcast on low power and a weaker frequency and take up less broadcasting frequency space. That’s why cellular companies were much less interested in the near future for those less stable UHF bandwidths during the forced mandatory FCC Repack deal that was finalized in the Autumn of 2008 and the subsequent national DTV switchover of early 2009.
the low power tv channels were originally scheduled to sign off in 2015 but were given till June 13th 2021 before they either had to go DTV or shut off
For such a historic moment, you'd think that more stations would put some effort in before turning off their signal.
Yea, only about 30 actually aired something exclusive to Analog users, even though they did miss a few good ones like WTVJ and (mentioned in comments) WKRG.

Cheers very assuring of you dear television-station.
"ember this. I know where you live, bOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH" -cheering and opera singing intensifies-
24:00 is probably the best one (WFTV-Orlando).
@@NijiMarii definitely a nice change from the abrupt switchoffs and celebratory control room footage.

sad the two stations representing my state here -WHDH and WSBK- didn't do anything special for the occasion, especially the latter given it's mark on tv history as a once national superstation in the analog era

Liked the one that played the REM end of the world song.
KLCS' clip looked like it could've inspired the creator of Local 58, with the transition through all the station logos. It had a very analog horror feel to it.

Weirdly, WFAA was my favorite of the video because of how charmingly 1970s it is.

Fun fact: If you are listening to this on headphone, you will notice that the audio on KCPQ shutdown only plays on the left and not both.
Biggest problem was your indoor antenna, the analog picture at least gave you idea of what direction to point it in, digital is just guesswork, and much more frustrating.

I love the one that played its the end of the world as we know it during their final moments of analog transmission. Something about that clip is very poetic
The fact abc ended there’s with how to get the new box was so respectful and nice😭❤
Believe it or not. In my city there was analog signal until 2022. I was honestly pissed when they turned it off

That’s why cellular companies were much less interested in the near future for those less stable UHF bandwidths during the forced mandatory FCC Repack deal that was finalized in the Autumn of 2008 and the subsequent national DTV switchover of early 2009.
the low power tv channels were originally scheduled to sign off in 2015 but were given till June 13th 2021 before they either had to go DTV or shut off
@@maxithefox2389 Correct. All low-power tv stations on analog aka repeater staions had switched off their analog transmitters last July 2021.
@@maxithefox2389In Alaska, the transition was completed in 2022 for low-power stations.

My analog signals lasted until 2018. My grandpa had analog until then.
Mine lasted til 2009
You might have been watching the remaining low-power analog tv channels in your area. The US ones had to switch off back in July 2021.
@@QueenDynamo Canadian. We still have analog up north.
Mine lasted around 2016-2017
Here in Chile, it would last until 2024.
