Why do people get so upset about down votes? You would be hard pressed to find a clip on UA-cam without them. Some people just like to be contrarians. Don't take it personally.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song on this show A beautiful song passionately sung by Tina Arena. Andrew Lloyd Webber obviously got a free plug on television with this programme to promote his new musical, which I was very lucky to see in London in 2000. You cannot beat live musical theatre!!
I like the strength with which she sings this song, but I don't care for the parts that seem to show a bit of anger. And still, in my eyes an to my ears, an exceptional performance/rendition of this beautiful song.
I really love the song but I love it for it's simplicity and comforting nature sort of lullaby like. She sings it really angrily and with a tone of pop-riffs and personally that isn't the way I would like to hear this song. I prefer it when it's sung again at the end of the 50th birthday
@@fizzygoldenbutterfly I'm sure that her voice and style is great in a different genre of music but in that case she should have performed a different song. Both Evita and other songs in Whistle down the Wind would work. I'm not saying that she isn't a good singer or that she doesn't have a vocal range. I'm just saying in my opinion this particular song doesn't suit that style.
@Uther Teasdale Oi, Tina Arena, is one of Australia's best selling music stars, infact she's probably the best singer the world has seen, she should've had more recognition unlike Madonna and Britney who don't deserve it as they both can't sing.
@@meridian2000 As you can see from my reply to Olivia Curtain. I am not trying to diminish Tina Arena's vocal abilities but simply offer my opinion on her performance of this particular song. She has an incredible voice but I feel some of the meaning of the song is lost by making the style pop and that perhaps there would have been Andrew Lloyd Webber songs that suit her style better. I understand that she sung this for the concept album but I'm just sharing my opinion as a fan, student and director of musical theatre. P.S I didn't mention Madonna or Britney so I'm not sure why you decided to attack their singing ability.
I know that a lot of people with comments here are her fans, but in my opinion the version done at the end of this TV special by Lottie Mayor is much better and more in the mode of how this song is supposed to be sung. Tina Arena tries too hard and goes overboard here.
@Lisa Kwaterski I'm sorry to say but You Are Wrong in thinking that, Lottie Mayor was nowhere near as good as Tina Arena, Tinas was brilliant where as Lottie's was just awful.

A singer that deserves more credits
How did someone not like this?! Love Tina so much. She was such an inspiration to me. Her voice is just amazing
Jealous, envious failed singer...that’s the typical loser who does that: it’s expected
She is Australian. Also has the attitude of an angry school-teacher. Probably nerves.
@@autoclearanceuk7191 she's Australian.. that's why someone wouldn't like her? Really? Wow? Petty!

@@brianaustin5467 cool, thanks.
Did you two notice that an 'Austin' answered an 'Austin' question? Nice coincidence.

I disagree Tina Arena is one of Australia’s talented female vocalists she was showing off her vocal range
