My mother instantly fell in love with this song as soon as she heard Jamie singing it. It's a wonderful edition of the song that doesn't make you go "wow, what a ruined classic". It's awesome and very touching.
The feel is still there and I think that Jamie did a great job! For me it was definitely one of the highlights of the night. It was much better than some of the "new" country artists. I want to say also that it was a live performance. An entertainer would give it a bit more than what one would in a studio. Besides all that, George enjoyed it. Look at his face at the end of the song!
im black and im from Texas too and i love George Strait music and jamie foxx did a good job and i think George liked it too (look at him smilin in tha back) .....We are some TEXAS boys 4LIFE
I love this rendition! It's so creative and he really brought it! And the constant smile from George Strait during the entire song makes it that much better :)
Mr Foxx was great with this song. He showed Mr Straight respect like a pro should. You could see the way the people received this rendition. Great post.
theres not a bigger george strait fan than me on the face of the earth and i loved jaime's version. if you watched the george strait tribute he tells a story about when he was younger and george strait coming to terrell texas. hes true to his roots. helluva job.
Okay, People this is respect. Forget the color and the politics. It is about respect. Did you happen to watch this live? Did you see the looks on the face of Mr Straight and Mr. Fox? Jamie, you are a bad mama jama. George, you are the only ole Turbodora. Wrong spelling. Oh well. This performance was a heartfelt and loved tribute. So why are we posting comments? It was fantastic.
Thank you for posting. I saw this the other day on TV and is was one of the most moving performances I have ever seen. Jamie Foxx is proof that we have an ausome creator.
I love this with Jamie because I also love my George. What a nice compliment to Mr. Strait, who is a legend of music. Jamie has me laughing yet entertained.
I will forever love this version because my boyfriend and I were watching this one night in my living room and we were all alone and he was about to leave and this song played and he pulls me close and we had our very first dance (: sigh... great memories
I actually saw George Strait in concert Saturday night. I was hoping he would sing this, but I'm glad he didn't since I don't think he could compare to this version anymore.
lol gotta love foxx thats a damn good singer/comedian/actor right there all the way around and shows how good a person he is by always showing respect to those he came before him. still think that comes from a good child raising.
For me, this just underlines the great choices George Strait has made in regards to the material he performs. Great songs transcend genre. I don't want to shortchange Jamie Foxx at all, as he does an admirable job in engaging the audience, doing justice to the lyrics, and (especially) paying tribute to King George, but I doubt he had much trouble converting "You Look So Good In Love" from a smooth country to a soul ballad.
And to be honest, Jamie is a better all-around entertainer. I saw him a few years ago in DC and his show was amazing. He did comedy, singing, and even went into Ray Charles mode. I like some of George's stuff, but after awhile it all sounds the same and gets to be a little TOO twangy.
I posted this vid and I'm white. I'll say Jamie adds a certain magic to the song as he does any song he does. I'm sure George could buy Jamie, but George has been in the game a LONG time. I saw George this summer with Julianne Hough and Blake Shelton. I'll say Blake was a better performance. George might have a huge catalog, but it's a catalog of mediocre songs. I would say there are less than 10 that I really like. I've just never understood how how he got this "LEGEND" status.
well I liked it. I always thought this was a white mans soul song anyway...The way George talks in the song always reminded me of something Barry White or Marvin Gaye would say...
For the most part, I would agree about Jamie Foxx doing a great job on this song; however, he totally butchered the third verse, which actually goes as follows: Darlin, I've wasted a lot of years not seeing the real you; but tonight your beauty is shining through. And I never took the time to let you know, so before he takes you away, please let me say.... then the chorus plays to the end of the song.
My mother instantly fell in love with this song as soon as she heard Jamie singing it. It's a wonderful edition of the song that doesn't make you go "wow, what a ruined classic". It's awesome and very touching.
I am a huge George Strait fan, But Jamie Foxx nailed this song dead on. Jamie is a terrific singer. Way to go man.
I love George Strait and his voice but, Jamie could melt butter at -32 degrees when he sings this song. Absolutely wonderful rendition of this song.
Love Jamie's rendition of this tune. I wish it were available on iTunes, I have no doubt it would be huge!

i love Jamie Foxx

he needs to either make it a single or make a studio version or SOMETHING
i friggin love it(:
I don't think anyone could do this better than Jamie Foxx
im black and im from Texas too and i love George Strait music and jamie foxx did a good job and i think George liked it too (look at him smilin in tha back) .....We are some TEXAS boys 4LIFE
Excellent performance by Jamie! George was smiling all the way through!
I love this rendition! It's so creative and he really brought it! And the constant smile from George Strait during the entire song makes it that much better :)

Mr Foxx was great with this song. He showed Mr Straight respect like a pro should. You could see the way the people received this rendition. Great post.

Jamie could sing the phone book and make it sound sexy and country lends itself to r&b covers.
I can listen to either versions over and over. I love George's but Jamie done an excellent job at this. Much applauded!
Jamie killed this, but the Pimp George Strait cannot be denied.
This was so well done! I don't like when people kill a cover song, but he did amazing making it completly his own.
Okay, People this is respect. Forget the color and the politics. It is about respect. Did you happen to watch this live? Did you see the looks on the face of Mr Straight and Mr. Fox? He absolutely killed it.

God dude, I know. I'm a massive GS fan and this version is just ridiculous. I love it from start to finish
I actually saw George Strait in concert Saturday night. I was hoping he would sing this, but I'm glad he didn't since I don't think he could compare to this version anymore.
Damn! Jaime blew that song out of the water!
I'm a country fan, but he killed this shit

I don't go to far away from Country or rock but he did a good job on this.

i'm white (gw84) and i loved this version. i'm not a jamie foxx fan. but he did a great job on this song, even with adding his name at the end.
lol gotta love foxx thats a damn good singer/comedian/actor right there all the way around and shows how good a person he is by always showing respect to those he came before him. still think that comes from a good child raising.

You live in Texas...no matter your fave style of music...you know @least one+ Strait song
Yeah I agree. I'm from Alabama also, so I know how it is.
damn JF!
that is hella romantic!!
Love it :))
I'm a fan of the original and country music in general but I think this song does sound better in Jamie's version than George's.
yum
butter.
And to be honest, Jamie is a better all-around entertainer. I saw him a few years ago in DC and his show was amazing. He did comedy, singing, and even went into Ray Charles mode. I like some of George's stuff, but after awhile it all sounds the same and gets to be a little TOO twangy.

that is a fool from outer space.com!!! loved it!! smiled the whole tme i was listening to it.but he shouldve done the 3rd vrrse the right way:)
@slickjay24
I can't say that Jamie's version was better. Jamie's vocals have a more seductive tone but George's singing is more heartfelt.
Well of course meant to add that lil tidbit in but hey to human is err right?
@Tiffany4609 Heh, small world! :)
@timmon385 face it Jamie owned the song, George liked it but he couldn't help but realise that "dam dat nigga did it beter dan i did"
@alabama2780 I'm from Huntsville Alabama :)
George Strait is awesomee, but Jamie Foxx is MmmMmmm. (;
well I liked it. I always thought this was a white mans soul song anyway...The way George talks in the song always reminded me of something Barry White or Marvin Gaye would say...
jamie is beter the george strait
I'm not gonna say it but I'm shure gonna think it:/
i like the way the guy who posted this video respnds to certain comments gw84 but completely ignores the use of the N word...Americans...(shakes head)

George strait version is way better, Love Jamie Foxx though......
