One of the best parts of these old country songs is how they use a faint female vocal to harmonize the chorus parts. It’s hard to notice unless you’re listening for it but I feel like it makes a big difference. Lots of old “true” country songs have this
It’s not hard to hear but she also sound great
I hear a male and female voice during parts of the chorus singing parallel to the melody of the main vocal. You can hear them come in at 0:54. I think the male voice is actually George on a layered track.
Then I only hear the male voice when the pre-chorus begins at 1:49 'The clouds roll back and the waters part...the sun starts shinin' in my heart....' The backup/harmony is just holding that same note while the main vocal (George) is singing the melody.
Then you can hear the female voice come back in for the second chorus at 2:07
(Also, the more I listen, the more I believe that's George singing the male harmony track.)

Listened to songs like 'It ain't cool to be crazy' 'Touch me when we dancing' and today as a 42 yr old man, the love for country music still remains as strong as ever. 😊 And no better artist than George Strait to say them words like they are!

I have listened to all kinds of music over my 40 years. Just here to say that this is by far my all time favorite song to listen to. I love the lyrics, the style and the instrumental. That one note that pops (not sure how to actually describe it, but hopefully it makes sense lol) just lights up me. Thank you for such a great song George!

This songs sounds like it’d be in the key of G which is really basic, but the Bm7 in the intro makes it in the key of B flat. So it’s probably the Bm7 that pops for you. It could also be the Em in the chorus cause Em is a very pretty chord.
I love how you don’t need to understand music to tell when something special is done in music. You can feel it that one note changes the whole feeling of the song from something totally happy to something a bit more bittersweet
