It's not the republican convention, it's Ron Paul's convention, which was really close to the republican convention and if I'm not mistaken it was bigger! Of course no one knows about it because the media didn't cover it, but Ron Paul was very popular, the republicans would rather lose than win with Ron Paul as their candidate, because he was one of the few republicans or democrats who was actually anti-war and pro-civil liberties.

When our Forefathers wrote the Constitution... They cared about our ability to protect our liberties, not the government's ability to 'protect' us

Lexagon, you need to re-read the 2nd Amendment. From a legal perspective it is quite clear what it means, a child of 12 could understand it. "....the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" - Without that, you could never have a Militia. The 2nd Amendment is very clear. If the People have a problem with the 2nd Amendment, there is a process by which it can be changed, but I doubt any restriction on the right to bear arms will be successful.

When was the last time you seen politician say I want the people to have guns so they can over throw the government when we screw up? The Government thats in power now wants the people to be weak and serving, and they want them to obey everything they lay down. What we need is Leaders not rulers. Leaders to take us forward and make positive change. What we have is rulers putting more restrictions on what we can do.

I don't think we need to over complicate things, just read what was written.

Philakalomen, the Second Amendment doesn't mention anything about a "Standing Army". Again, we do not need to over complicate things, just read the words. Macspectrum has a point, but you know what, if you asked the population via a referendum to change the Second Amendment, I'm willing to bet the answer would be a resounding NO!

no you are wrong, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, the militia is made of any people healthy enough to fight

When the cons. was written, slaves were not legally considered people, because the tribal africans did not possess written language, (oral tradition doesn't cut it) and it was put forth that parrots could speak, but not really think for themselves, so also for the african slave...Were you being rhetorical, or did you really want the answer?

Quite a turn out. What was this? Republican National Convention? Time to put aside all parties and stand for the constitution. That's all we need. No liberal, right wing, conservative, democrat nonsense. Unfortunately this goes much deeper than our government. We do what we can.

I don't, I couldn't care less if you owned an anti-aircraft cannon that you kept in your back yard. What I'm saying is that from a legal point of view, the second amendment is very widely misunderstood. And just as some backround information: I've worked in the military in a country that has even more guns per capita than the US for over three years, so I have nothing against guns, this is just a legal view on the matter.

"the people" are not a militia. the founders of this nation just got done fighting the british wit guns that were owned by "the people" and ur telling me they then turned around and said only a militia has the right to bear arms? i think not. i myself am a gun owner and will(if need be) turn them on an oppressive government. if u have a problem with me owning a means of defending myself y dont u come on over and relieve me of my firearms?

Great idea, but if he did run I think they'd do the same to him as they did to JFK.

Wow. I love the fact that Ventura talks the truth. I love the fact that he advocates open borders and the freedom to travel. He is a genius compared to those who champion checkpoints and the border wall. More power to Jesse Ventura! I know hundreds of people who would gladly circulate his nominating petitions in all 50 states. Let's make it happen!!!! We're chomping at the bit to make you the next president, Jesse. Don't wait until the last minute!

No, they pretty much were farmers with AK-47s. They didn't have much of a mechanized army to speak of. It was all jungle warfare on foot.

The 2nd amendment is actually about the federal government not having the right to disarm state militias, not about private gun ownership. The actual amendment is "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." The US has a well-regulated militia, two in fact, the National Guard (which store and provide their own firearms) and the SDFs (unarmed, except Californias CSMR). Hence, the amendment is moot
