Once on a family vacation in the middle of nowhere Kentucky, battery died in the old dodge maxivan. Jumped it and drove 40 miles to the nearest walmart. In the early 90's i got a free replacement. From then on, I only purchase wally's batteries. . . batteries are not what they used to be.
$550.00 Electric bill for one month; and its just me! I put in my three 5000 BTU AC units, set on 6 level, and whew!!!!I guess the meter went off the rails! I usually put 4 for a 3000 sq/ft house. I'm shutting 2 down and closing all the doors on extra rooms. It just gets damp here more than hot. Never had a bill that high.
Yeah but each chain has their own battery 'brand' so how can you even price match? Walmart has better prices but you won't price match Ever Start batteries
@@Argedis I price match EverStart here at my store. Same warranty and same cold cranking amps would be what we look at. If something’s off, I usually work with the price, but not price match h exactly. What good would a price match j guarantee be if every part in the store was proprietary branding? Maybe you just have ill-informed employees at the store you go to? 🤷♂️
@@hom2fu I don’t make the prices. The corporate bosses know that people will more than likely not check for better prices cause they need a battery now, just like the video said. The workers in the store have no control over the price hikes.
Yep, same here...2003 Silverado. Best vehicle I ever had in over50 yrs. of driving. Almost everything is bone stock w/96K. All I do is change oil, service trans. & filters, fluids, batteries. I decided to look for something newer recently, bt the prices changed my mind quickly. The truck needs some refreshing, tune, ft. suspension & a couple of small leaks fixed. I figure to spend abt. $1500-2000 & drive t till I Die. It's ben said many times, but never more true than now....they don't make them like this anymore.
My '06 Mercury Grand Marquis has 387,000 miles is still going strong. Original engine and transmission. About a year ago I bought a like new one owner '07 Grand Marquis with 36,000 miles. I'm 65, so I should be set for life.
Same here, mines the Denali with the 6.0. Previous owner and me changed all the fluids regularly, so it still runs like a dream at 280k miles on its first engine and transmission. Its only just starting to have some minor slip, but that's nothing some Lucas can't fix for now.
Regarding how they used to build things.......In the early 80s, a coworker of mine had a little Toyota pickup truck. Most of us there were motorheads. He wasn't. One day he was asking what to do, because his oil light came on. He bought the truck new. "Check it". He looked a little confused. "When was the last time you checked it?" Well, he had never checked it. "When was the last time you changed your oil?" Changed it??? Never. We were getting kinda stunned. "How many miles does it have on it?" About 70,000 WTF!?!?!?! Damn good engine. Never had an oil change or even been topped off. 70,000 miles to get the oil light to come on.
I got one for you. Girl brings in a 69 Camaro and says it is really loud and slow and only goes 35mph. We explained that the car has three more forward gears. Muncie 4 speed.
I have a similar story with a Toyota. The girlfriend I met the summer of 1991 had a Toyota Corolla GT-S, I think that was the model. I think it was a 1988 or 1989 model, hard to remember over 30 years later, and had over 50,000 miles on it already. The second or third month of dating I decided to check the oil in the car and it wasn’t touching the dipstick at all! Plus it was orange and burned looking. I opened the valve cover oil fill cap and the cams and everything in the top of the head had the orange film covering it! She had never checked or changed the oil, she didn’t know she was supposed to. The motor was still running strong and not making a single noise! I was going to do a flush out before changing the oil but didn’t have time for that. So I just changed the oil and filter using Castrol GTX. A couple thousand miles later I changed it again and just running the Castrol GTX cleaned all the orange gunk out of the motor. It looked brand new again. I kept changing it for her during the time we were together and I think she had it another 4-5 years after we were no longer together. We stayed in touch over the years and she said it was still running like new when she sold it.
I have had awesome service with Interstate Econo batteries, I know the driver that delivers to its dealer network in AZ, the Econo are batteries that have been taken off the self, never used, but have a sell before date, they go back, get a Econo sticker, or Batteries that dealers take back, usually charging system issues, they get tested, if OK they get a Econo sticker, sell with a 1 year warranty, I've got 4 years out of a set on Duramax PU. Not bad for $50 each battery. And that's in the Arizona heat.
I work for AutoZone, and tell my customers the same thing....I tell them to go to Walmart if they can't really afford it . O'Reilly's and Advanced Auto are the same way.. expensive
I got my last battery at Autozone, $46. Walmart doesn't have a battery for my car. I did buy a lawn and garden battery, but it's exactly the same as the $200 "car" battery that everyone else sells. Edit: I did have to buy a $6 flag to pole adapter, that can be used indefinitely, but no big deal.
@@Ojb_1959 depends what one u want. I like interstate. Some more expensive than others but they all work the same generally. Walmart also has those offbrands that are cheap and Cheezy for a reason..
Yup, our battery was worn out earlier this year and even with a AAA membership the Costco battery outpriced the AAA battery by around 100 bucks. Ofc installation is included with AAA, but it’s just a few nuts and some heavy lifting.
You're the man Scotty you get my family started on Toyotas we have a Camry2011 and Tacoma 2017now love them both low miles well taken care of by older adults and always had synthetic oil ran in them and parked in doors keep up the good work
Definitely some truth about older cars! I recently bought a 21 year old V8 4Runner and it runs as smooth as a new vehicle. Only 130k miles, many more left to go!
I love my '93, with the manual windows and the wing windows. I love that it doesn't have a remote kill switch or send any telemetry to some 3rd party. I love the 5-speed manual transmission. The only thing I don't like about it is it has the automatic hubs. I like the old, get out and turn the hubs method. Less wear and tear on the front end in 2wd.
@@torcik I kinda like mine too! At times I have had to use them to get parts for the mechanical ones when they all quit or had problems all at the same time. Just wish they would go a little slower than 40.9 mph!
Everything gets worse, yet more expensive. I got a 2011 Honda Accord. I'm 51. It will likely be my last car. I'm gonna drive it another 10 years, and then I'm just gonna walk the earth like Caine in Kung Fu.
@user-mw2hn6zy9y Of course. Even If the engine goes, they can just replace it with another good engine and it would be cheaper than getting a new car which are only going up in price.
I finally found a non auto subject that I agree with you on. Natural beauty, no theme parks or plastic stuff. I used to ask my kids for vacation, would you like to go to Disney world, or Greece. They chose Greece. Beautiful water, cliffs of Santorini, snow capped mountains on Crete.
I bought a 98 Corolla for $800 bucks at 190k. I've had it for over a year with no problems, AND I DELIVER IN IT lol. Now has over 200k and keeps on keeping on lol
As long as you keep the oil changes fresh, it'll keep going. Maybe you'll need to change the starter if it starts giving trouble, but the engine itself will seize first before quitting on you!
@@ANSWERTHECALLOFJESUSCHRIST it needs a valve cover gasket but I can't believe the durability and how fun it is to drive. My daily is a Nissan frontier. Driving this car is a blast though!
97 Corolla bought it at 190k now has 290k timing belt kit install when purchased only thing failing is toque converter in the transmission just started failing
WalMart and Autozone batteries are both made by the same company: Johnson Controls. However, the German company Bosch may have recently "acquired" (bought out) Johnson Controls. Periodically check your car battery terminals for corrosion, and brush off with a wire brush if corrosion appears. There are corrosion protection chemical sprays that can help ward off or delay the appearance of corrosion.
I go to a place where they rebuild them!! And I pay one third of what every one else wants for the same one!!! And I've had one in my car for five years now, and still no problems yet!!! 🤗👍
I thought Walmart had Exide as the OEM (this may have been some time ago). JC also makes Interstate, but that doesn't mean they're all exactly the same.
Use the felt washers under the terminal clamps, they are treated, they prevent corrosion. After you install or clean the battery coat the terminals in vaseline.
Costco has the best car battery prices. Interstate makes all the batteries for all these retailers. Compare them and you will notice they look exactly the same.
After 8 years the 12 volt battery went out in our Prius V. I checked the 3 main parts stores in my area. All wanted around $250 for aftermarket replacements. I guess I had assumed they would be less than the Toyota dealer. Wrong. The local dealer had it for around $190. The original went 8 years so there wasn't anything else to think about. It is an easy change out with the help of a You Tube video.
Amen to real stuff this country has so much to see and do without getting caught up in some man made nonsense that cost a fortune to do. Just like other vehicles make cars that you can enjoy to tinker with and fun drive. These young folks don’t have a clue as to what they’re missing. God bless my friend.
If you come to my Autozone, we test your battery, starter, and alternator. If you need a battery, we put one in. If you need a headlight or taillight, we can usually put those into most vehicles. Our warranties don’t have a catch.. we will get you the replacement if the parts go bad. Autozone doesn’t pay me very well, but on the right day you’ll find advice & help which can save you getting ripped off by a mechanic.. mechanics are charging about $150 per hour lately! PLUS, we can save you from walking through Walmart. 👍
My 2016 Lexus 350 NX Fsport is better than my 2024 NX 350 F sport. Scotty you are so right. Biggest mistake I made was getting rid of my 2016. 80,000 miles
I ALWAYS get my AC DELCO batteries from MENARDS, yes, MENARDS....Their between $84- $120 no matter what size, with a 3 year warranty...& They are just as good as INTERSTATE BATTERIES
autozoner here, they raise the prices of the batteries around 2-3x per year and they always push us to sell the 3 dollar washers for the terminals which is annoying, 2 yr warranty durlast battery used to be 170 when i started, now they are 200, i started in late 2021
I get my batteries at Costco 135 bucks. The last one lasted 4 years. I went with my uncle to get a battery for his car at Autozone and had to change it for hid twice in 3 months. He got a refund and I got him a Costco battery no more problems there Interstate batteries.
I got a Duralast Gold from Autozone 4.75 years ago (I have the receipt because they said it has a 5 year warranty). I paid $160 + core charge back in November 2019. Looking up the same battery, same sku, it's now $215 + core. RIP 😑
@@josealdecoa2417doesn’t matter. You are buying the cheapest you can find and that doesn’t mean it better. It just means that is all you can afford so you make due.
Scotty, I was watching the Trump news conference yesterday and he was asked about EV cars and trucks and I couldn’t believe he stated the same facts as you did about how heavy they are and how much less cargo they can carry AND how much they’re going to cost to fix the roads they are going to destroy . Keep up the good work enlightening your audience on the facts
Take a small engine, put a turbo on it to bring the hp up to make up for the engine being small and underpowered is a recepie for failure. Pressured engines get oil leaks and wear out faster.
I bought a battery for my Mazda3 at BJs in Rhode Island. It's a small battery, too small for the electronics to be honest and it was like $170. I remember buying one for my Civic in the early 2000s for $60. Battery for my E90 is close to $300.
I just bought a Duralast battery for my 2013 Subaru Legacy because they were the only ones who had the battery size and output I needed on a Sunday because the battery in the car was dead. This happened 2 weeks ago. I managed to get the car there, borrowed a tool, installed the battery, and was on my way. Truly convenient and the car was working again within 30 minutes. Sure it was not cheap (about $150) but not having to wait until Monday to get a battery and not having the car running for 24 hours was much more convenient than saving $40.
I used to Work at Autozone, til they screwed me over. 100% agree with you, they wanted me to be a manager but they didn't tell me, they threw hints instead of just saying they wanted me to be a manager.
When it comes to batteries, I bought my daughter an old Honda 14yrs ago and it came with an optima battery, the car went capoot, that optima went in my jeep liberty, after 10yrs of being in service with us and I have no idea how long before that it was purchased, I bought another optima battery, it's been in service for 4yrs now, my expedition went through 2 lead cell batteries in 4yrs, so now I just went full optima batteries in all my cars, they don't cost that much more than a regular battery, but you get wayyyy mor life out of them than regular batteries..
I work at Autozone, I would suggest to price match, yes! They price match and its a policy, as long as it is from a brick and mortar store, I always price match walmart
I have a set of Duralast sockets and ratchets that was given to me as a gift in the early 90s. I have used the h=ll out of those things, especially the ratchet. I may or may not have used various things to extend the handle for some impressive leverage, and that set is still going strong.
When I got my first car for $400 in 1980, it was a true piece of garbage and I was broke. I did all the maintenance and repairs myself and the local auto parts store was invaluable for their advice. Now, the places are full of workers who hardly know where you put the gas in.
I’m still using an old optima battery. The sticker says 10/08. Not worried at all of getting stranded, I drive a manual Corolla and can easily turn it on even if the battery fails. If you know you know 😂
Optima batteries are awesome...as long as they are being constantly used. I've wasted so much money on them in the past 20 years due to having them on project cars that had sound systems. They sat too long unused without a tender and died. They don't come back once they're gone, ha-ha.
@@ANSWERTHECALLOFJESUSCHRIST Totally agree I had a vehicle with a phantom drain/ parasitic draw and once those optima’s die that’s it they are trash lithium is not the way to go on the other hand tho my Odyssey batterie has change my life just saying
1:38 Not only better made, but they also didn't have these newfangled features that make driving worse. I don't want a dashboard touchscreen, I want knobs and buttons. I don't want an electronic button or electronic knob to change gears, I want the stick PRNDL. I don't want a pushbutton start, I want a friggin key. My 2008 Honda CRV is the sweet spot for me, I think. It's got cruise control, and the most 'digital' thing it has is a little screen between the speedometer and RPM gauge that tells me my mileage and average MPG.
Watching your vids for a while, respect most of your opinions/tech advice, just to say, I'm one of the folks you mentioned, bought a 2016 chevy colorado for 25K$ around 2020, only 51k miles on it compared to the nearly 40k+$ they wanted for new and after seeing all the recalls on the ones made after 2016, glad I made a good choice, only problem I had, a year ago, had O2 sensor go bad, the one right under the engine cover, paid less than 100.00 for repair and I brought the part to be installed, the mechanic does have his own shop, pro, but, I used to help him when I worked at a parts shop, (starts with an O) and I also helped him in the shop working on the/my vehicle repair he is one of the old school techs, he charges the rates like other repair shops, he and I just get along well, it helps to know your mechanic. retired military, parts tech/runner.
I have a diesel tractor with a 15 year old Napa Legend battery. It's getting a little weak, but still starts when the weather is warm. Can't remember any battery lasting that long, especially in something that may not be started for several months.
I bought an 84 month (7 years) Toyota battery from the Toyota dealership for about $160 for my Sequoia and needed a battery for my 1971 VW Karmann Ghia, so I bought one of those batteries for it as it was cheaper than the 4 year Advance Auto "Diehard" battery for $275. Same prices at AutoZone. Walmart batteries are cheaper than the discount auto parts stores but still only 4 years and can't beat the dealer price or years.. Always check with the dealership parts as sometimes they have OEM parts cheaper like CV-axels and rotors. All it takes is a phone call. Result for me was 3 more years and over $100 cheaper than the discount places.....a no brainier.
Scotty you are 100% right I went to Walmart and got a battery for 75 bucks while advance auto parts wanted me to pay 250 for their battery’s. Tell you what that Walmart battery is doing just fine !
I don’t go to my local Auto Zone often. I did go today to buy some clear coat. They are always helpful and friendly. They also will take old batteries and give you credit for the core. Lastly, they have a veterans discount.
Don’t buy parts from AutoZone. They can’t even make brake pads right. I put a set on my mom’s car and about 2 days later she called and said her brakes were grinding. The pad completely fell off the backing plate!!! I removed every part I had ever put on my car from AutoZone and took them back, went to Napa
Akebono brake pads are the only one people should really use. I'm also trying to find a place that sells as good if not better batteries than Autozone for a cheaper price. $200 for a car battery is just ridiculous.
Be careful! Last May I went through 3 fuel pumps from NAPA & none fit or worked! Finally got one from O`Reilly`s that worked & that was from Korea not China.
I have personally never seen the adhesive fail and allow the pad to separate from the backing plate. Had a caliper lock up on my sister’s car and get red hot and it still didn’t fail. Weird to see a qc issue like that, but I can definitely see it happening.
That’s nothing I brought a tie rod from autozone years ago and the stupid thing broke on me while I was going on the highway, luckily the speed limit was only 55 and I was able to stop the vehicle safely when it broke, the faulty part could have gotten me killed in a wreck,
True about Duralast battery costs, good thing is Walmart is just as convenient and you definitely save a lot. Autozone wanted $260 for my step daughter's Malibu recently and Walmart had it for $180; that's exactly 30% less. And it had a 4-yr warranty where Autozone only had a 3-year.
Scotty please do a full report on Volkswagen's EPC problem. There should have been a recall (or a class action), it's something that exists in every single model of all of their vehicles. A nightmare... it's a nightmare
My last battery before my current one was a autozonre Duralast Gold (the most expensive one) and it only lasted three years. For my current battery, I bought a silver version battery from Advance auto parts, and it's lasted 4 years and is still going so far.
My first car at the age of 21 was a KIA Rondo EX 2.7 V6. I can guarantee many have not heard of this model, however this car is my baby. Financed at a dealership sitting at 20-25k miles, and now in 2024 she is at 103k. I may have driven her rough so I'm praying in the next week I get a diagnostic on the transmission. Either way if she needs a new transmission I'm getting one just because its an 08, low mileage, and a beast on the highways.
If you have a Toyota/Lexus vehicle you should get replacement batteries at the dealership parts counter. They charge less than anywhere else and the batteries last longer than any I have owned in 50 years. I have one that is still working after 8 years.
Very true I worked that AZ every time winter or summer came price when up I also have a old 2003 F150 I got for $100.00 all I've done is battery & brakes in last 4 years no leaks or problem
Costco, around $100, you can walk in with your Costco battery and say "this battery is no good" and they will replace it with their warranty and never even test it.
Exactly, find out who makes the oem parts and get your part directly from the company. Most people do not realize dealerships are just high priced parts stores.
Older vehicles were built better. Two years ago I bought a 2003 BMW. After the customary used car repairs, I've now got a car that is completely solid and reliable. The build quality of this car is stunning. I've had two foreign car specialty shops tell me my make & model is built better than anything being made today.
Had a 2007 Tacoma 2WD base manual 5 speed 2.7 4 cyl. at 206000 miles it got 25-26 mpg and burned no oil. Would still be driving it forever but for that wreck. Now I have a first gen 06 Tundra with the V6 Awesome trucks
My mother in law bought an AGM from Advance Auto for her car and it only lasted a year! See, her car has one of those stupid FOBs and a button to start it. Guess what? When the voltage goes below 12v, the computer won't let you start the car! I jump started it and we tested the battery with the scan tool; Voltage started dropping like crazy, so we took it to the store (battery under warranty), The clerk had no problem authorizing the replacement, but when we got to the shop to replace it, the "tech" started saying that the battery was ok, because "it has 700 cranking amps" I asked "At what voltage?", he was puzzled by the question, so I had to explain! He wanted us to buy a new battery and I told him "Dude, the replacement was authorized, the new battery is sitting behind you!" and he was like "huh?...ok!"
Took a bad battery to autozone and sure enough a basic battery $210. The employee said "if you have a Costco membership get it there". Agm at costco is $169.
Looking at all your Triumph signs in your background, I am reminded of the Triumph Trident, also a 3 cylinder engine. Those motorcycles leaked oil like a sieve.
I currently drive a 2006 Chevy Express 2500 cargo van. Paid $4k for it with 138k miles on it in 2019. It currently has 180k miles. I drove it and towed a loaded u-haul trailer across the US (I-40 San Diego to Charlotte) in 2021 with zero issues. Other than having an upgraded transmission cooler installed, the van had only received routine maintenance and worn-out parts replacement (engine and gearbox fluid changes, transmission service, spark plugs and wires, battery, starter, tires, shocks, brakes, front hub bearing assemblies, and steering system components). Parts are relatively inexpensive and the thing is pretty easy to work on (I have experience in the industry as a mechanic). The check engine light has only come on once, and it was an EVAP code that required a new gas cap to resolve. 😂
The first cyber truck fatality happened about a week ago and the driver was cremated by the 5000° fire. The news report said the body was unidentifiable.
The Duralast ignition switch for chevy trucks is complete junk. Lifetime warranty, but who wants to keep replacing it. 3rd one was DOA. Had to go with NOS Delco for my truck.

"Die-Hard Silver" is a good battery, its $170 though.
$550.00 Electric bill for one month; and its just me! I put in my three 5000 BTU AC units, set on 6 level, and whew!!!!I guess the meter went off the rails! I usually put 4 for a 3000 sq/ft house.
"When was the last time you checked it?"
Well, he had never checked it.
"When was the last time you changed your oil?"
Changed it??? Never.
We were getting kinda stunned. "How many miles does it have on it?"
About 70,000
WTF!?!?!?!
😂😂😂 I've heard a lot of stories similar to that one

WalMart and Autozone batteries are both made by the same company: Johnson Controls. However, the German company Bosch may have recently "acquired" (bought out) Johnson Controls.
Agm at costco is $169.
great stuff!
Scotty is always welcomed in my hood !
I had a great 2014 Tundra with only 70,000 miles on it. AND it got totaled a few months ago. I'm still sad!!!!
I have a 34 year old Celica GTS that runs like a dream.
My favorite electric car is the golf cart
With all respect for TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE
My Yamaha golf cart is gas powered 👍
Scotty, run for President! Stop all this bullcrap!!!
Duralast AND Everstart are BOTH Johnson Controls batteries. The only differences are the sticker and the price.
Looking at all your Triumph signs in your background, I am reminded of the Triumph Trident, also a 3 cylinder engine. Those motorcycles leaked oil like a sieve.
I would always rather have an older car. The problem is, here in New England, they tend to be pretty crunchy after 10 years or so.
Scotty never misses arm day.
I have a 1999 Honda civic lx still going strong ❤
The Duralast ignition switch for chevy trucks is complete junk. Lifetime warranty, but who wants to keep replacing it. 3rd one was DOA. Had to go with NOS Delco for my truck.
