What do you mean "they don't gain any exp once purified?"
Well duh, if you use a cologne massage scent or a time flute they erase all currently gained exp on the shadow pkmn you are using them on. Did you not know that? LITERALLY ALL shadow pkmn gain exp when used at one of the 2 lead spots in a battle, and at purification they gain all that exp. You either battle to purify OR use cologne scents, you cannot do both.
I personally loved this game growing up. I got it as a present from my parents. When Rui was introduced and they had the option to name her I thought “Awesome! This is a two player game so I can play with someone!” So I named her Dad thinking I could play with my dad. It wasn’t a two player game and some random NPC that was a girl named Dad just followed me everywhere lol

Worth pointing out that Snagem and Cipher, while related are two seperate evil teams conspiring together. That distinction becomes more important in XD :)

The game makes this very clear, but Sea doesn't talk to any NPCs.
The concept of playing a member of the local evil team who broke bad (or broke good I guess) is still so neat and an idea I can't believe Nintendo/Game Freak never really explored again. Like maybe even if maybe the protagonist isn't one, maybe they could reveal that a gym leader has a checkered past. Just so many good ideas gone to waste in this game.
Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness were developed by Genius Sonority not GameFreak so we can understand why one team is great and the other is meh 🙂

The bonus disc is amazing. I bought it second hand for $20 in high school thinking it was the actual game. I didn’t get the actual full game until freshman year of college. This game is great, although the beginning is a bit tedious as espeon and umbreon don’t get many moves early on

they dont need many moves, umbreon is a tank and espeon is a one trick
All you really need to beat like 90% of the game is Espeon and the Misdreavus from Pyrite lmao

Came for the Nostalgia, stayed for the banger tunes and the insane story this game brings. 10/10
One big issue in this game is the fact that it takes forever to purify the shadow pkmn, and that the cologne scent items and time flutes [only 3 in game] remove ALL exp when even one is used on any shadow pkmn.
This means that you might spend hours grinding in Mt. Battle or other places to drain the meter to zero and gain exp for leveling, and after all that you use a cologne scent to get that teeny tiny bit of the purification bar to zero, and unknowingly erase every single one of the exp points gained.
You basically have to carefully choose what you want to do to purify and what you want to purify. Because battling takes hours and hours, and the cologne scents take tons of money, but in the end you get the same results. But should you mix the two, it just erases all the exp.
Whoa really? Never knew that. Geez. I recall beating this game but not once did I realize cologne scent does that.
Purifying speed and method is based on natures. If you get a good matched nature then its pretty fast but yea the legendaries take time no matter what.
That Meditite animation is nightmare fuel haha! I've never played this or XD. It would be cool if they could get re-released or remastered for the Switch.
A remastered version of Colosseum/XD/Battle Revolution for the Switch is my dream

YES. But without changing the Pokémon in-battle movement nor their body length to the current ones. Those were full of charm compared to the newest games...
I remember how excited I was when I got Colosseum. I was already an avid RPG fan in addition to loving Pokemon, so a darker Pokemon game with a vibe that reminded me of Trigun or Wild ARMs was just awesome.
Also, here's a really cool sort of trick/ bonus thing: normally, since this game has no wild Pokemon, you can only get a finite amount, but if you want to add a Pokemon to your Colosseum game from a GBA game while still keeping all your Pokemon caught in Colosseum in that game, just trade one Pokemon for a Nincada from a Hoenn game, evolve the Nincada in Colosseum, and boom, you have two Pokemon from just that one, and you can trade to get your other Colosseum mon back and trade to add a new Pokemon to the game as well!

Oh god, I remember getting that damn Ho-Oh. It was a big deal at the time, since you couldn't really get one any other way. (Except events, maybe?) I still have the bugger in Sword/Shield/Pokemon Home, along with most of the other shadow Pokemon because I transferred them over the years. Which is honestly kind of wild that I have Pokemon that are nearly 20 years old.

Yeah, you to get the event key item MysticTicket from Pokemon Center NYC in 2005 to visit Naval Rock in Emerald or FireRed/LeafGreen. I was lucky enough to snag one myself, this was way more obtainable for most people.
I seem to remember the guide for this had misprinted all the postgame teams as having levels in the 80's when in reality they're all in the 60's. Not just one trainer, all of them. Made me grind to a high level in Mt. Battle before attempting them only to find out i was now ridiculously overleveled

5:16 the guide explains 3/8 moves wrong here. For Taunt, they actually describe the Encore effect, they don't specify that Snatch only works for status buffing/healing moves and they say that Reflect is stackable, which isn't the case.
At first I thought they mixed up Reflect and Barrier, then I re-read their description and now I have no idea which move it could be.
@@rooislangwtf They probably just misunderstood that Reflect isn't exactly the same as raising the team's defense stats by 1 stage.
I don't care what reviews and others say... Colosseum and XD are amazing Pokemon games and I replay them all the time.
Such an underrated but amazing game I couldn’t beat it as a kid but as an adult I hundred percented it and all I can say is while I did it out of love it was exhausting and took days
Yeah, Mt Battle is time consuming and so is purifying all the Pokemon lol...

He was going to become the boss of Cipher in the sequel but Nintendo didnt want that

I absolutely love pokemon colosseum. It's my favorite video game of all time. I played it so much as a kid that the clock stopped counting. It maxes out at 99:59.

One of the best Pokemon games I ever played. I really wish Nintendo will consider remaking this title or making more mature Pokemon titles. I was too young to understand how brilliant this title was, but as the years went on, I remembered it was my favorite game aside from Pokemon Crystal.
i replayed it 2 times in the last year, in all honesty, pokemon collosseum is pretty dull and overall shit. Short story, boring dialogues lackluster mechanics, idk everything sucks. Pokemon XD is way way better

I remember myself and my dad being ill and off school and work respectively, during the week this game was released. I can remember my gran turning up on the Monday afternoon with the game as a surprise for me and spending the week with my dad completing it. Will always have a soft spot for it

Thank you for this video! I FINALLY played through Colosseum just last year! What sucks though is that I got my copy used and it had a few small scratches. Luckily I was able to finish the whole game and transfer my Pokemon to a GBA cart. But... when I got to the LAST FIGHT in Mt Battle (the 100 round post-game version) the game crashed - meaning that my Mt Battle progress was gone. As badly as I wanted that Ribbon (which, we're talking full-lockdown times here, so it was pretty bad) I wasn't about to spend several hours/days redoing the entire thing for nothing due to a few small scratches that were on the disc.
God, 2003?! I remember getting this game when it came out, along with Ruby when I was 5! I still never fully completed this game. Might be time to break out the old GameCube.
I have to assume the "ultimate shadow Pokémon" is the Shadow Lugia in Gale of Darkness.

Gotta appreciate a game where Papa gets to beat Willie during the first 10 minutes. Some of the names in the game are comedy gold in other languages too, surprisingly.
God I have so many memories with this game... I was young enough that I remember using the game dialogue to practice reading. My brother and I spent hours and hours on this game in the house we grew up in, taking turns in the 1p campaign or linking our gameboy advances and battling with our RSE teams. We'd always fight about which pokemon to keep on the team in the campaign, and once I accidentally KOd the shadow Yanma and he was so mad at me we didn't play for a week. All of these silly memories, this game, the time I spent with it... all very cherished to me.
I just finished marathoning the rest of this series haha. I'm so glad this dropped today.
3 unanswered questions from my many many playthroughs of this game:
1. why does wes not just climb the gate blocking the laboratory?
2. why does wes just not hop the gaping hole the peons blow in the basement of the under? jumping from a pipe you could totally make that.
3. ho-oh watched them do everything they did, and waited till Wes stopped everything and everyone, and ONLY THEN intervened to stop the villains? wtf ho-oh? why not fly in to Phenac City and blow up the mayors house when Wes arrived in the city?
yes, randomly blow up a random innocent mayors house the entire region would be after your head. you need to cover your own ass. you cant kill the faux affably evil bbeg with good publicity until they are outed as the bbeg unless you want to be arrested. same as killing baby Hitler. if someone just shows up and kills a random baby that is not going to be well received.

@Big Boss24 is right it’s great but it requires a lot of grinding and you really need to be careful about who you choose to have on your team because the final boss is really tough

I noticed that the description of taunt was actually describing torment near the start. Also the DNA sample have about 6/7 locations and it puts them in 3 random ones out of the multiple possible places. I'm basing that on multiple of my playthroughs where they have been in slightly different locations.
Hell yeah!! One of my favorite games growing up even if I didn't have a memory card at the time. I can't wait to watch it all after work!

Pokemon Colosseum is to this day my favorite non mainline Pokemon game so I'm glad to see somebody revisiting it.
I used to call it A Gate village but it’s Agate like the rock so pronounced Aa Get , I think.

This is one of my favorite games of all time , I have such good memories with it and I love when Pokémon games go a little dark
The way Hopes and Dreams was building up when the cover art was being shown/when the video started was beautiful
I personally love Colosseum and DX the most out of all the Pokemon games because of the focus on double battles. The change results in both new strategies and making previously mediocre/bad moves somewhat useful (Seriously, a skill-swapped Slaking is terrifying). The soundtrack is absolutely masterful and fit the environment perfectly. Best of all, the trainers in Colosseum and DX generally have decent AI and Pokemon, compared to the main series where I find trainer AI questionable and their team composition irrational outside boss characters.
XD was my favorite out of the two games. One of the reasons being that you can choose which eevee evolution you want. Man, these games were so much fun. Brings back some really good memories. Used to have my friend across the street come to my house and help me level and purify pokemon.

The best feature of Coliseum is the broken snag mechanic - you don't have to win the battle to steal the Pokemon. You can actually get all the Johto starters by intentionally losing. They did 'fix' this for XD. Worst feature is daycare, sooo expensive.
The ORE region, with all the towns named after ores or stones, and you call the stone agate… a-ga-te. I love it. The meme of the video

I loved (and still do love) this game. Interesting facts: 1. Wes is the oldest pokemon protagonist (at 17), with the possible exception of the game Trozei. 2. Wes was a former member of Team Snagum, though why he joined is a mystery. 3. This is the only game where you start with pokemon over level 20. (except the intro battle in XD)

I know a lot of people who watch this probably don't play or care about pokemon go.. but this game introduced shadow pokemon, which are a very big thing in pokemkn go pvp.. they get a 20% attack increase in exchange for a 20% defense debuff.. purifying a pokemon sets their stats back to normal but is also the only way to get the move return
I loved this game when I first played it. Mostly cause of how different it was from normal Pokemon games but I also really liked that it was all double battles

This may have been a 1st release thing, but I remember that you immediately added the shadow pokemon to your party in Colosseum, but in XD they fixed that to add to your party after the battle. I remember beating Evice for the first time that way by using his T-Tar against him right after catching it.
During my playthrough at the battle shown in 18:00, the Hitmontop got paralyzed by Static and Pikachu almost managed to beat it up. I wonder what happens when the Pikachu actually wins
So there's an antagonist that looks like a prototype of Dark Riku and the Shadow Pokémon are like that because the doors to their hearts have been closed?

I love these games so much. I still have my Lugia from Gale of Darkness in Pokemon HOME, and recently replayed this and got Ho-Oh (who I never got as a kid).

It’s interesting that even battles with normal NPC trainers are covered in the guide, but that makes sense since this game is ALL battles.
I remember the tv commercials had me believing shadow Lugia was a hidden Pokémon in R and S. So when i did the Regis puzzle i was tooo hyped

Interesting seeing this with a different guide. I had the Prima’s official guide as a kid (it’s practically falling apart at this point lol). It had some funky mistakes that were amusing (but nothing major like the DNA issue from what I remember) and it actually did talk about Ho-oh, a straightforward “here’s every team in mount battle” and also mentioned how to get Jirachi. It was also formatted differently compared to other pokemon guides which was odd. I kind of wish I had one for XD, would have saved me from printing out an 87 page guide from gamefaq when I tried replaying it in middle school. My poor mother had a heart attack.
I loved this guidebook. I never actually owned a gamecube or the game, but for some reason my mum bought me the guide and I read it cover to cover.
I played this game as a kid and until the very end, I didn´t know, that I can save the Pokemon and so I just fighted with the two starters XD great memory and liek always a great and very entertaining video done by you! :D :D :D

29:40 I played this when it released day one, i was 10 years old. I was not expecting Es Cade to be the villain. I was so happy when I defeated Nascour that I thought the game was finished. But that twist villain though If anybody was wandering - you can actually obtain Ho-Oh by beating Mt. Battle if you go straight through the 100 battles
Awesome! I love Colosseum and XD! This video has made me want to reply Colosseum. I haven't played it sence I got my shiny Ribbon Master Absol three years ago, I have played XD a lot more recently.
