I used to walk to Chula Vista from National City CA every Saturday to go to this tiny guitar shop that sold nothing but Hondo, Mako, Aria Pro II, Westone, Arbor and some no name electric guitars. Everything was a copy of Fender, Gibson, BC Rich, Kramer and Charvel guitars popular in the early 80's. The owner would let me play anything he had and I found a black Strat style guitar with one humbucker, volume and a Strat trem on it. Even had the small Fender headstock. It was $175 and I had nothing and no way to earn it. I went there for over a year and finally got my dad to go check it out. The owner had my back. He dialed in the most Metal sound he could get on the floor amp and plugged in the guitar I wanted. My dad had never heard me play. I was nervous, but determined to leave with that guitar. I played everything I knew and floored my dad. I left with that guitar that day. I was stoked. I still have it and it turns out that the owner of that shop used to buy bodies and necks and cut his own pick guards. It was basically a copy of the San Dimas guitars of the day and pretty close to the same quality. Good times.
my first guitar was a first act toy guitar thing with a pick the size of my hand... I loved that thing to death. However, when I got a real guitar I donated the thing. I had never changed the guitar stings on it at all and they were rusty as fuck
I still have my first guitar. never even heard of the brand before it :p Robson guitar, still havn't come across anything else of it's kind. now im rolling with washburns. W1-24 and a DD60 :)
They trade off solos Jim is the more melodic and Mick is the ballistic shred player, Mick plays the 1st solo in Dead Memories and Jim plays the last one at the end :)
JackTheSlipper7 Jim Root plays both solos in Dead Memories. You can distinguish Jim's sound and scale approach, and if you watch the live performances it's both Jim.
Jim plays both solos, Jim plays legato if you know what that is and Mick plays staccato if you know what that is mick doesn’t play a solo in dead memories nor does he play a solo in sulphur he plays in nomadic gematria psychosocial, this cold black, and more but not dead memories
My first was a 1979 Royce Les Paul copy from Woolworths department store. Looked just like Jimmy Pages cherry sunburst LP. I played it for a while & foolishly traded it for a moped. I had to get motorized like my buddy's who left me in the dust on my bike. I've been on e-bay several times looking for another Royce LP but never seen one yet.
Mick is actually the primary "lead" player, but technically there is no real "lead" or "rythem" player set in stone in the band. They switch pretty often too.
My first guitar was an Epiphone Les Paul vintage edition, then after watching SlipKnoT, and seeing Mick Thomson using an Ibanez, I fell in love with it. I started looking into Ibanez, but by then I was already getting more into bass than guitar. So I bought an Ibanez GSR205. Never made a better decision in my life, best bass I’ve ever seen or heard. I now plan on getting a Mick Thomson signature Ibanez when I make enough money at my shitty 9-5.
My first of course was a stupid first act accoustic that my sister gave me because she got a better real one, then her friend bought her a cool ventura accoustic so then she gave me the accoustic. At the time i had no use for it so my family made me pass it to my cousin. Then one birthday i decided i wanted a bass so they got me a nice silvertone bass with a bass amp, picks, strap, and a dvd with lessons. The bass sat in the corner of my room for a while until i actually found metallica and they inspired me to get back into music so i began playing that again, then i realized i needed a guitar again so i picked up a jay jr red practice accoustic, that worked for a while until my birthday came and i got a red jackson soloist hss. I was just playing that for a while through the bass amp until my sisters friend lent me one of his line 6 floor pod plus' (i need one of those again). Then later he found his line 6 flextone II that used to belong to howie dorough, i gave him the floor pod back and he gave me the flextone to keep. At that point ive been writing songs for a while with my friend and at christmas time, jimi gear made me and my sister custom strats. Mine is red with a maple neck and an hh configuration anf my uncle got me a practice amp for it. I didnt have enough room so i gave my bass to my friend and we are planning on recording soon.
My first one was some ripoff 3/4 sized classic guitar, than I decided its time to become my hero Slash and buy a real electric guitar. so I saved up to a Standard Squier Strat (I was like 10 or 9 years old) and just started enjoying the magic of a Fender Strat ripoff. later on i bought a real guitar
@BlackRose641 He said "..And then the next day, I woke up... Sober, and realized that I had bid on it. (laughter). And uh, and It was kinda like Christmas morning really."
My first guitar was a bass. It was a Hondo P bass copy. And a very poor copy at that. It looked perfect but was like holding a 2x4 in your hands. I hated that bass from go. My next bass was a 1979 Rickenbaker 4001 Stereo bass. Had that one for 35 years. just recently let it go. Wish i still had it.
I like how he looks big and scary but genuinely acts like the most kind and respectful person ever
Also Mick: FUCK YOU, MOVE
YESS LMAO
Cause he is
My first guitar was a piano
Mr Durp HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH ME TOO MAN!
That’s my favourite guitar
Same
Me too! Haha
My first guitar was 4 rubber bands stretched along a yard stick, and a cardboard box with a sound hole cut into it.
Guys can we appreciate that Mick Thomson just said shits and giggles...
@@markpalmer9844 2:06
His voice is reeeaaaalllly good
IKR😻😻
He's handling that guitar like a ukulele
Mick and Jim both play solos, I find that Jim has a tendency to play higher harmonies though during some verses for some songs (duality for example)
my first was a fake gibson sg made by my local music shop. now I have a brutal 7 string ibanez rg with EMGs!
Dan Edwards amen
Ibanez is big w
it doesn't matter to slipknot who's doing lead guitar because jim and mick are one of the best out there.
Two

It's odd watching a sinisterly dressed man speaking in a relatively normal voice about his first guitar lol
remember the days when you could actually buy guitar by having a paperound.
where did those days goes :/
love this guy
my first guitar was a squier strat, it had a sunburst and the same looking red piece on mick's guitar. i named her "Scarlet"
Well Mick when your boss sees this video he will know you quit
Boss: "Hummm... I didn't know he quit"
Mick Thomson..... One of the most bad ass guitar players..... Just said shits and giggles. What??!!
His guitars he designed both with Ibanez and Jackson are the coolest I aspire to own at least one or the other
i like how he says "Christmas Morning" in this video. and he's wearing that Sinister hellbent-on-destroying-the-world mask.... :D
Perfect example! If you treat your guitars nicely, they will stay forever.
my first guitar was a first act toy guitar thing with a pick the size of my hand... I loved that thing to death. However, when I got a real guitar I donated the thing. I had never changed the guitar stings on it at all and they were rusty as fuck
That guitar will be on legendary display
mick you are by far the best. cool dude. keep it brutal !
That guitar seems terrified 😨 he's just one arming it casually lol dudes a beast
every guitar seems so small for Mick :D
my first guitar love was his guitar. Long live slipknot! \m/
love how mick looks so intimating but he's super interesting and welcoming
this guy is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is very funny when he says 2:26 "the next day i woke.....sober"
I still have my first guitar. never even heard of the brand before it :p Robson guitar, still havn't come across anything else of it's kind. now im rolling with washburns. W1-24 and a DD60 :)
Midwest Mickwest Thomson.
i like that guitar
It isn't important how your guitar look like, but how can you play at it! Slipknot thank you for all your songs and feelings with it. Maggots Rules!!!
I still have my first one, a cheap Squier Strat. I'm gonna invest some money to make her great.
did you do it yet
What a coincidence. I have a black squier strat too!
Mick is the man dude!!
"two weeks notice thing"
Black and white squier strat was mine..... after 10 years of playing I tried one again couple months back....never again!
My first guitar was a black Fender Starcaster Strat that I got when I was 14.
nnnnaaaaaawwwwwwwww Mick :)
whenever he swears or makes and serious comment with a cuss, i laugh, its so funny. He says it so casually!
Saved money for my first guitar working a paper route as a kid. Bought a Ibanez since I was big into Korn at the time.
my first guitar was a mick thomson ibanez model :L sold it to get the jim root tele, maybe one day i'll buy it again XD
thats a good guitar for a first one
my first guitar was a black fake strat and my current guitar is an ibanez rg1527z with a bareknuckle pickup
Still have my first. Epiphone les paul special II burst
hope mick had a better christmas this time you know with the family n shit insteed of just getting drunk and nostalgic
His last sentance was " And I had realized that I had bid on it. "
they actually share rythm and lead guitar duties. in the blister exists, mick is lead.
My first.
I wonder how much he paid for the one he got off eBay.
This makes me want to never sell my first guitar. My shitty First Act lmfao.
Mick Thompson said he owned a paper route, told me that I shouldn't care about having a job, then said dog shit all within two minutes.
Didn't tell my boss that I quit - like a boss

you wouldn't think so,but #7 is a very humble quiet dude.
Got my first guitar on christmas last year. Ibanez whatever the fuck it is... love it.
"When you're 10 you don't know that two weeks notice thing. Not that you should really care anyway" 🤣🤣😂😂
muito liso
THE GUITAR IS SO SMALL NEXT TO HIM! :D
my guitar is a hundred dollar kona guitar, i am looking to get lessons in texas, where should i go to get them?
+Metal Head Nowhere just teach yourself. You'll save yourself (or your parents) some money & learn the songs YOU want to learn.
Does anyone remember a meme/edited version of this interview and where can I find it
my first guitar was micks signature jackson 😂
My first was a 1979 Royce Les Paul copy from Woolworths department store. Looked just like Jimmy Pages cherry sunburst LP. I played it for a while & foolishly traded it for a moped. I had to get motorized like my buddy's who left me in the dust on my bike. I've been on e-bay several times looking for another Royce LP but never seen one yet.
woooooooooooooo
holy shit, my first guitar is strato but has the same colors than mick´s first guitar
OMG O.o
Did that recently with an Epiphone SG 400.
My old one was MUCH lighter...
my first was an epiphone sg
They share solo and rhythm
An Hohner Telecaster, I got the exact one
my first guitar was some first act electric. but i stopped playing for years and the guitar that got me back in to playing was an 83' Ibanez Iceman
Telecaster??
imagine the guy who bought micks guitar watches this and realizes he has mick thomsons guitar
My first guitar was a Epiphone les Paul SL
There is a lesson to be learned here people, NEVER let go of your first guitar, no matter how shitty it is!
while throwing he would be like TAKE THAT MOTHER FUCKER!!
My first guitar was 4 rubber bands stretched along a yard stick, and a cardboard box with a sound hole cut into it.
Mick is actually the primary "lead" player, but technically there is no real "lead" or "rythem" player set in stone in the band. They switch pretty often too.
his fingers so pretty..
My first guitar was a little acoustic. Then I got a fake stratocaster with I tiny body and a massive neck. It was cool
I found the exact guitar on eBay for $290. So gonna buy it.

Franny Steven Rojas IKR! And it's a pretty decent guitar for what it is.
LOOKS AWESOME
@stranglechord wicked keep shredding practice makes perfect time makes better :)
my first guitar was a drumset

Felix Nilbog lol my twin sister just gave me her first act discovery guitar because she got a better one
Felix Nilbog it's an acoustic too 😂
Mick is lead. Jim also does lead stuff on their more recent stuff. When you hear legato it's normally Jim, if it's fast shredding it's Mick.
Both, same as Jim.

They both play some solos, but Jim Root usually plays the higher parts.
No, officialy he is the lead but you are right, it doesn't matter.
@revolutionday1 He wasn't rich when he was 10, he was rather middle class or lower if I remember correctly.
@BlackRose641 He said "..And then the next day, I woke up... Sober, and realized that I had bid on it. (laughter). And uh, and It was kinda like Christmas morning really."
can you imagine mick riding on a bicycle throwing papers at people :O
My first guitar was a bass. It was a Hondo P bass copy. And a very poor copy at that. It looked perfect but was like holding a 2x4 in your hands. I hated that bass from go. My next bass was a 1979 Rickenbaker 4001 Stereo bass. Had that one for 35 years. just recently let it go. Wish i still had it.
