I actually expected the 1:10 truck to do well in this video, because I´d already seen it. What surprised me was how well the 1:6 one did - if it hadn´t been for that pesky overload cutout it would have been well worth buying. It still is worth buying for its upgrade potential - I´d like to see it run the same course with decent electronics fitted and no other changes, then see it again with better shocks and whatever else you felt it needed..
Yes, they both were actually ok! This little area is about 5 mins from my house, so a follow up is certainly possible. Maybe an upgrade to the electronics with a decent battery. 👍
I am looking for a big FPV platform! It should be able to handle terain that is usual when you are driving across fields with long range! The Depender seems to be a very bad car, but when upgraded with better tires and shocks it might be what I am searching for! The electronics will be changed anyways. The question is, will parts be available and is it possible to use hobby grade parts?
I'm sure with a few tweaks it will be better, but not sure about parts etc. I think the motor and electronics should be ok to upgrade, it would need a new steering servo also.
@@TomleyRC Yeah it must be the battery, those look like 14500 cells they can give like 5 - 8 amps at best per cell meanwhile a 1500 mah 2s lipo with 25c discharge is like 37 amps heh.
Sorry man. Last question. What servo did you use? The stock servo is 35mm wide and 30mm deep but has 4 wires so won't mate with my receiver. I picked up a different servo but it's 40mm wide and seems too deep to work as well. Thanks in advance
I agree I have expensive name brand crawler s but wanted to try the ZP1001 and for what it costs it really is a fun truck I bought it knowing it would need upgrades but in all fairness I buy axial and traxxas and still do upgrade thats the fun part of the hobby making it your own cool comparison 😀🍻😜😁✌🏻
Nice video. I like the grey one. It looks proper. And it doesn't seem to be making that low humming sound any more. Did you change something electronics wise or is it just breaking in?
I installed a new ESC in mine and mated it to my FSi6 transmitter and what a difference! About the vented tires; do the stock tires have foam inside? Does venting make a noticable difference?
I have now got this with a Quicrun ESC and 2s lipo, much better! Vented tyres make them a little more grippy. I'm not sure about foams, I think they haven't got them
@@TomleyRC Thanks for the inspiration. I chose the Quicrun and 2s as well. Definitely a ton smoother. The original all-in-one was losing bind on me as well forcing me to turn it on and off to get moving again. Cheers!
Hi mate, cool video I enjoyed that, a nice crawling location. 👍 To be honest I think the HB Toys ZP1001 is a bit over priced for what you get, even more so when it's at its top price of £150 that's crazy for that model, if you compare it to other trucks and crawlers you can get for the roughly the same price, (£80-£130 can get you dome great crawlers) for half that or around the £70 mark though its worth it.. Didn't do too bad though and as you say it looks cool and no doubt you had fun, lol how could you not right.. Let's hope this weekend and next week brings us some nice weather for some good rc action.. Happy rc-ing mate 👍
Yes there are some better Crawlers out there for about the same money, or a little more. If the chassis was a bit stiffer on this It would be so much better. hello bro Tomley. just to meet you again for a years. I just upgrade this rubbish toy🤣🤣🤣.. very low cost. I hope you will comment on my channel, if you feel free. TQ and advance Bro Ley
Thanks for a very good and enjoyable test, Phil. I hear what you're saying, and the 1/10 does look a lot better. However, the way the bigger truck got over the big rocks with its bigger wheels and more ground clearance, makes me wonder what you could do with it if you tried? Is there much you can do? Obviously needs a better power train and power supply, and maybe some lead inside the wheels? Anyway mate, look forward to see the modded 1/10 mud & water run! 👍 GB
Cheers Mark, I've already upgraded the 1/10 one, so will now look at the 1/8 and see if there are any easy (cheap or Free) mods to do to it. I think just upgrading the electronics will make a big difference! 🇬🇧🤘
It bugs me when folk complain about the quality of some stuff as so many, in fact most kids or parents struggle to pay for things that make either themselves or their kids happy. Some must think everyone that wants to rc is minted.
For what i have observed when you use the 1 10 going up you don't stop pushing forward thats why it manages to go up quick, unlike the 1 8 you press forward then reverse thats why it had a hard time going up the terrain. Thats what i have observed, thats why you say 1 8 is having hard time going up. Thats just my observation hehe. For me only they are the same. Thanks for this video though hehe
Trx4, for only $130. Seriously? Where did you get such a small trx4? I’m in Canada and I paid over $800. for a 1/10 scale Traxxas. I kinda like that little fella. Cheers! Ya gotta take the bodies off next time, let’s have a good look.
Come on, now... really? they're crap, sorry... mow some lawns, donate blood or something, get $100 more and buy a proper rig that's not gonna break at the first crash... with the money you'd spend on upgrade it, make more sense to get something better out of the box. I think it'd be a waste of money, considering for $250 one could get a decent truck, like the Gen7, or a Waterra, MST/CFX maybe, which happen to be great... wouldn't know, got the TRX and don't need anything else... but definitely not toy-grades, plastic shocks/diffs... Or go for a 2nd hand rig. I happen to see a lot of them on ebay... I saw a nice SCX10 for 200, the other day, and that's a solid platform!
Yes, there is always going to be something better. But how many people walk in to a Toy store and spend $100 on something that can't even go over grass? I bought a new bright Brutus a while back and made a video (Hobby Grade Vs Toy Grade).... the Brutus was about $140 at the time, no suspension, non proportional, plastic wheels etc... That was Crap! You have a TRX4.. which is one of the best RTR crawlers you can get, however, not everyone can afford $500+...or even $250. Most of my reviews are aimed at the budget market, trying to show people that there is better stuff out there than the crap they sell in Wallmart etc... 😎👍
@@TomleyRC I completely agree you don't have to spend a lot of money to have fun, and I'm down with budget stuff and Chinese replicas, as long as they're Hobby grade and not toys. I started out with cheap RC's years ago, and ended up wasting more money, on stuff that broke down after a week, or that I quickly 'out-grew' after a month, lacking in quality, performance, upgradability and what not... so, instead of throwing $100 on a cheap product, planning to upgrade it every month (polish a turd), and after a while being able to get a $200 one and so on, until one can finally afford a Vaterra/Redcat/Axial/Traxxas , after which, all that cheap stuff previously bought will be obsolete, end up in the basement or trash, I'd rather wait a few months, make an effort so save up, find some extra work in the weekend, and get a proper truck, which I can rely on... It's just my opinion, I grew up in 3rd world countries, didn't have Lego's and RC's as a child... For years, I've watched a lot of RC videos and attended Crawling events, dreaming of things I couldn't afford (Slash 4x4, UDR, Savage Flux, Baja SC, Axial Wraith etc), but instead of rushing to buy a cheap knockoff that wouldn't have been up to the challenge anyway, I waited & waited, saved up for a year, and bought the TRX Tactical for $399. And I couldn't be more pleased. It really is the best, tough as hell, +500 wet hours in, and still going strong... unlike my previous $130 1/10 buggy, $350 1/8 monster truck (HPI clone), which didn't even last me a month, breaking down at the slightest hit ("RK" brand)... That was 8 years ago, and got so pissed about throwing money on crap, that I eventually made some sacrifices and got myself a Slash Ultimate, with RPM arms/MIP XD shafts/MambaMax combo, and it's been the most awesome, savage, indestructible RC ever... I've done insane things you can't imagine, and haven't broken a thing in 5 years... so I learned my lesson, and it was worth waiting to afford the TRX-4... to this day, I only own 2 trucks, and though I like seeing everything else as much as the next guy, Gen8, SCX10, VS4, X-maxx etc, I don't need them because I already have the best-in-class trucks... I also can't afford another RC, but who cares, I can rely on the purchases I've made, and have too much fun to want anything else. A friend of mine, less fortunate, like many, just got a ECX Barrage Doomsday for $160, and though the body looks great, the chassis/plastics are cheap as F, the motor is too small and barely moving, steering servo won't even turn on a slick, indoor surface, can't imagine the headaches I'd get taking it outside... so he's going to have to spend another $100 to upgrade the servo and motor/esc... at that point, definitely could've gone for something better, an used SCX10 or a new Vaterra or Redcat... Then again, that's just me, I want quality and reliability, and if I can't afford it, I'm not going to compromise on something that's bound to let me down. Since I got my TRX, and using it like a maniac (getting it out of my system for all the times I've attended events only as a bystander), I've crawled with many who drove an hour to get to my backyard rainforest, only to see them brake something within the first 5 mins, of what supposed to be a 6-8 hrs crawl. I've seen broken links, shafts, stripped gears/diffs, drowned ESC's etc, and that's on the $300+ trucks... can't imagine a $100 truck like this being up to the task. However, I do think that 1/10 Defender looks nice, and might be able to handle a not very technical course/crawling event, or if someone just wants to build something in their backyard... I'm sure it will be fun for those who can't afford much, but I don't think it'll still be in one piece after 6 months, and those who buy it will still save up for a better truck. So, budget or not, in the long run, you'd save up more by buying a good, reliable brand... Axial, Traxxas etc. Like I said, I've abused my TRX-4 for +500hrs in 3 months, for some that might take years, and I know I can rely on it, crawling, bashing... haven't broken a thing on it, and I'm sure will last me a decade! Best $400 I ever spent, and if I knew back then, would'be gone for the cheaper Sport instead, as I never touch the diffs, hardly used the 2 gear transmission, and being lighter, also more capable. I wanted to buy the Defender at first, but didn't have an extra $100, and since it has a problem with the HCG, the Tactical was a better choice (I attended an RC event 2 weeks ago and put all Defenders to shame :)) I wouldn't dare load it up with scale/aesthetic accessories, knowing it's so top heavy out of the box). Now, I would invite you to test these in my backyard jungle, but I'm afraid you won't make it past the parking lot, let alone the 10km course... ua-cam.com/video/gNIys4eEZQw/v-deo.html Still, I support what you're doing, and keep it up, at least helping people stay away from the real garbage...
i wonder if you could stand the wpl 1/16 hilux with the 1/12 mn90 with these 2 you just shown and wondering if you will do a video of the 1/8 for us.thanks for the upload.
a friend popped in saw my "monsterized" C-14, so we ordered up all the goodies to duplicate it. the heavier JJRC axles to lock the diffs of, the Fayee 6 spoke rims+tires that give 3/4" more width, Tx/Rx, solder to wrap front rims, 1500mah lithium ion (runs FOREVER!), charger, etc. mine just got reverse lights this morning, already did headlights, tail lights, and filled the 4 buckets on the roll bar so its fully lit up now.

Now, I would invite you to test these in my backyard jungle, but I'm afraid you won't make it past the parking lot, let alone the 10km course... ua-cam.com/video/gNIys4eEZQw/v-deo.html
Still, I support what you're doing, and keep it up, at least helping people stay away from the real garbage...
Still don't know why people hated the Trx4 copy. It looks nice though.
give me traxxas
i wonder if you could stand the wpl 1/16 hilux with the 1/12 mn90 with these 2 you just shown and wondering if you will do a video of the 1/8 for us.thanks for the upload.
I unboxed the 1/8 last week, you should be able to see that on the channel. I may put the 1/10 up against a WPL soon.
a friend popped in saw my "monsterized" C-14, so we ordered up all the goodies to duplicate it. the heavier JJRC axles to lock the diffs of, the Fayee 6 spoke rims+tires that give 3/4" more width, Tx/Rx, solder to wrap front rims, 1500mah lithium ion (runs FOREVER!), charger, etc. mine just got reverse lights this morning, already did headlights, tail lights, and filled the 4 buckets on the roll bar so its fully lit up now.
Does the one of $130 have perportionel steering?
And trothle?
