Frank Herbert Reads His God Emperor of Dune (Excerpts)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лют 2021
- 1982. More details here: www.discogs.co...
This was ripped from the cassette version. The time stamps on the back of album as can be seen in the link above are not accurate.
Some of Herbert's other readings have been made available on Audible and can be found here on UA-cam, but not this one or his reading of excerpts from HERETICS.
For me, the best thing about this recording is we get to hear the intended pronunciations. We've been saying these names incorrectly.
The first time he reads a book, he chooses God-Emperor. That's telling.
I used to have an audio cassette of him reading excerpts from Dune. I don't remember when it was recorded though, but it was amazing hearing him pronounce names and places.
Was just telling a freind the same
@@samuelcatoe1927 do you still have that? Really needs to be digitized
4WIW, there are further recordings available here on UA-cam which have Frank reading short bit from all six of his Dune books.
To be fair God-Emperor at many points kind of just reads like you took a lot of shrooms and feel yourself becoming one with the fabric of the universe. I'm almost sure Frank Herbert wrote this under some influence of psychedelics or ego death -- the parallels line up just a bit too well.
Holy shit. Recorded in 1982? Is this actually Herbert reading? Oh my god, what a fucking find!
this is absolutely Frank himself. his voice is hardly mistakable.
Damn....the author reads his own creation....as a narrator....so its in 4th dimension
Just rereading this.....I'd forgotten how much of a mindfuck this book is. Absolutely brilliant! This time I paid more attention to Siona and the Fish Speakers...what a fascinating concept. The chapter on Siaynoq is also mindblowing!
and some people think this is the worst book, comparing ir with the first.
This book was Herbert’s magnum opus.
I wish I owned this vinyl record of Frank Herbert reading his own work.
My man. Thank you dearly for this gem.
this is goddamned INCREDIBLE
Thank you very much for the upload!
Man this is unbelievably satisfying to find. Thank you. And Frank, such a genius writer and philosopher
So glad I found this! Thank you for uploading it! Getting to hear Frank say "Moneo!" is such a blessing! One of my favorite lines in the series lol
What a treasure. Thank you for sharing this.
My favourite book
Q(3): Would God Emperor would work from a cinematic perspective? Would the ruminations of 3,000 year old demi-God really be interesting to watch for a general audience? are Americans even cerebral enough to be interested in deeply philosophical inner monologues
@@intlvoiceofreason9239 anyone could interpret anything if they wanted too ,
Leto showed all aspects of himself but still did what he did for the greater good, I don't think it would make such a good movie, but in my mind it does...had a mad week, brains racing ha not seen the movies dune..other than lynches
@@intlvoiceofreason9239 I would have loved to see Jordorowskis version that would have been amazing and surreal Frank Herbert approved but it was never made the story boards are available to look at people have even put them into UA-cam videos in kind of cartoon or comic book format.
Same.
My favorite reading by an author as well....
My favourite book probably. Read by the master himself. Thank you!!
Mmy favorite Dune book surprisingly
"He who controls the algorithms....Controls the universe"
😅True
the Worm who is God shall remain part of the collective consciousness and dwell under the sand
as written
Wish I could find the complete recordings of all 6 original dune books narrated by Frank Herbert himself that would be amazing.
This is an hour, you probably could get a fairly decent ML to recreate it
What have you found so far ?
On UA-cam
Um, he never did it....
I wanto thank God and everyonelse involved, .... but especiallyou Kumar, thank you so much. The video is outstanding is as well. A+++, 110%. Who loves ya?
Thank you God, Creator of Heavens and The Earth.
I presume you mean Shai Hulud, and not one of the false Powindah religions.
Awesome!
This is amazing
the book that Finally got me into Dune. I did not like the first one much. At the time, I thought it was only one book and did not know there were six books.
Interesting. To me, this was the least interesting, least necessary, most poorly-written (from a story perspective), and least readable of the series. TEHO
@@coachhannah2403 😂😂
So LetoII Pre-Scattering Human Empire ecompasses multiple Galaxies. I imagine Milky Way, Ord Cloud satelite galaxies would be the extent. How far could the Guild Navigators range?
Just realised the book cover at 24:00 is where Denis Villeneuve might have got the film poster lettering from
Cooool !! Thank You !
So Kind of Frank
Book cover of the german publication at 18:10 looks like frodo and sam on mt doom from lotr return of the king? How did they screw that up?
🤘😎🤘
what a writer, fantastic
Holy ShaiHallud , Leto II was ultimate arrogant narcissist megalomaniac this side of Omnius. If there wes ever a being deserving to be burned by Machine Obliterators , he was. As King Leonidas once said to another self proclaimed god-emperor, "Even god can bleed".
Wow, you don’t get it
Q(3): Would God Emperor would work from a cinematic perspective? Would the ruminations of 3,000 year old demi-God really be interesting to watch for a general audience? are Americans even cerebral enough to be interested in deeply philosophical inner monologues?
So far, Dune made $40m from US market and $180m from global market. In the US while the civilization is in collapse and hyperinflation, they have focused their conversations towards transgender issues and gaslighting their brethren into vaccines. Soon they will have no choice to face the consequences of Nihilism and living without a purpose for God. Dune series is a wake up call.
Sadly, I don’t think so.
@@swatisquantum I don't disagree that the US is in the midst of a collapse: a. we have an insurrectionist fascist political party attempting to overthrow a legal and fair election b. we have delusional anti-vaxxers keeping the economy from rebounding because of collective rank stupidity c. we have 1/3 of the population obessesed with phony culture war issues like CRT and transgender issues. yeah... we're screwed.
Yes it would because there is enough going on around Leto
They're not the ruminations of a 3000 year old demi-God, though. They're the ruminations of a boomer named Frank being sold as the ideas of a God.
I will never get to ask him what motedom means.
Read Dune when Jessica takes the water of life. She becomes a mote swimming in the consciousness of her genetic memory mingled with that of the reverend mother while cradling the mote of Alia's consciousness. For Leto who can experience ALL of his ancestors and all of the reverend mothers they have communed, to experience ALL human history and himself within the flow of time for tens of thousands of years
Generally, and for Frank's use motedom is about smallness and insignificance.
Please load next few parts
There are no more parts. Frank Herbert only read this excerpt as promotion for the book.
@@KumarS-go4zi dam sorry to hear that, woulda been great to have herbert read whole series. There are a few other excerpts floating around from a reading of some parts of the main Dune novel tho as well that I know of.
Simon Vance does a really good job in his reading of the book, if part of your motivation is in just trying to find a good, solid, audible version.
I love how narratively irrelevant alot of the cover art outside of the US is lmao
and that’s a good thing
@@LukSter18998 it really is, though. Providing amazing art and interpretation
orson welles?
wat?
@@azzteke He seems like he has an OW vibes.
@@ExoformStudios he does, but it's definitely Frank.
he sound just like george r r martin
Does he? I don't think so
