  • In this episode Graeme heads out to the beach to show you how to skin, gut and cook a dogfish. Dogfish are a common sea species here in the UK. Using some paper from his bait bag and some driftwood, Graeme gets a fire going and cooks up the dogfish. Be sure to check out some of our Bushcraft videos below:

Im a fan of all you and your dad's work, and have been for a few years. I now live in Northern California, and our coast is similar. I have played around with methods you have demonstrated, and have had a lot of fun. If you ever are in Northern Cali, get in touch and we will fill a cooler with yummies and have a feed under giant redwoods!

I believe the correct term for dogfish skin after it has been properly cured and tanned is shagreen. Very valuable for sword and knife handles. It gives a smooth surface for the hilt, yet grips the hand when pulled.

Fantastic! I keep saying I'm going to do this but our beaches are sandy and very windy so any food gets a touch gritty! I used to carry a Baco hand saw for drift wood but haven't seen any for ages, I think when any appears artists collect it very quickly. I'm going to keep the next dogfish I get now you've showed us how to skin one. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. As with all your videos a real tonic! Thanks Greame!

Little tip for you guys. You can make your own "pocket bellows" by snipping off a telescopic areal from an old radio. Theyre not too expensive to buy, but, why spend money when you probably have a couple in your home already!

Totally Awesome Graeme ! Not only you take us fishing, but you feed us too. I will get some fishing/cooking/eating video & post as soon as spring gets here. Put a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your kit or pocket, that would help get the driftwood going. Or some pine sap, if you have any. Thank You for sharing your video & bringing us along. ATB

Little tip I can offer, use it if you want, ignore it if you'd prefer. If you cut through the gill plate just in front of the pectoral fins you can use the fins to tear the skin off in 1 swoop. It's really quick. It takes about 30 seconds to guy & skin them

basically you can just put the fish in fire without skinning it.Used to put the whole shark/fish in the fire without skinning or gutting. Just peel off the skin later and don't eat the gut. Good effort tho. Nice video.

    Hi Graeme,
Been trying shore fishing with my new gadget, a Breakaway Bait Loader. It is great at baiting up perfectly but theres nothing around the coast of Fife at the moment. Tried loads of beautiful bait including Mackerel, Blues, squid etc.
I cant wait till things change and i can get a disposable BBQ and wood fire on the go during the night.
I did catch my biggest Rainbow Trout last week course fishing which was a great fight, but nothing beats the sound of the sea and a lovely fire.
Your always ahead of the game Graeme.
    Brilliant as always.
Best regards as always to my favourate fishing family. Fantastic.!
    Steve in Fife.

+Stevie D Hi Steve, things are pretty tough on the sea fishing front at the moment anyway. Very patchy, but generally always is this time of year. May will hopefully bring more fish in.
