Today I show my CRUZE subscribers how to get more HP out of a Chevy CRUZE with a tune. I decided to go with the BNR tune because they had a few extra parts I needed for the build of my car. This is the 6th video in my CRUZE build play list but its the first video in a series of performance upgrades that I purchased from BNR. BNR is a company known for providing parts for the Chevy Cruze. Bad News Racing has been around for years. I decided to try out some of their parts on the Dave's World Cruze build. Don't forget to check out the POV drive at the end of the video showing how the car drove as well as the boost numbers.

I replaced a turbocharger assembly a few weeks ago on one of these 1.4 engines on a 55k mile Daewoo Trax that wouldn't pass plug in OBD inspection. It was making a P0299 underboost condition because the wastegate had developed so much slop where it passes through the hole in the turbine housing between the actuator connection and the wastegate flap. When the wastegate was supposed to be closed, it was cocked at an angle because of the wear and had an average 1mm gap around the edge.
Ouch. The wastegate on these turbos is their biggest flaw. I upgraded to an aftermarket one and it still giving me issues

That 1.4T is different than the one in the newer Cruzes use, just as a heads up.

@@davesworld2132 Dude you are SO right. I used to do a cannabis grow channel when I wanted to be a YT star, lol.
It takes HOURS to edit a 20 minute video. It's insane. The edits are one thing, then you have audio mixing, tagging, etc.

One of the videos coming I do change the spring in my Waste gate. Def was surprised at the outcome.

@@bigdogchrisl don’t worry that video didn’t come out yet. Tune wise it was about $650 and an aftermarket wastegate was $120. The upgrade is night and day! I would imagine if an issue comes up General motors probably would not warranty some stuff that being said the factory waste gate on these cars is very weak just changing the waste gate is a massive improvement.

@@bigdogchrisl nah not at all. Even on the Jetta. A tune and wastegate go a long way. I mean $700-1000 Is a hard pill to swallow when it comes to doing something to a car but that money can take a car that you hate and turn into a car that you never want to get rid of.

Looking to do this tune on the 2019 Cruze I'm getting.

@@Dj31589I’d guess you’ve already figured out the EFILive software required to download/upload tunes from/to the AutoCal requires Windows, but I thought I’d comment in case someone else stumbled upon this video and had the same question. I even tried Windows in a Parallels virtual machine, but the AutoCal was never recognized.

So why do all of the exotics seem to have the valve overlap crackle afterburner ? What is the advantage?

@@davesworld2132 hey what's up am back lol i got my tunes today and i love it but for some reason first i put my crackle tune then the engine and tranny tune but i notice that my crackle tune stop popping like i don't know if i did something wrong because i started driving normal on D then switch to 6 speed

I actually got the Trifecta tune but I feel like I made a mistake because because they don't really like giving me advice on what to do to make my car faster they seem like a bunch of sissies to me I feel like I should have went with BNR And I paid for the elite package which which is supposedly where I can request a custom tune But it seems to me like they just don't want to do shit for me
Yea choosing a tuner is hard. It took me months to figure out who I wanted to purchase from.

Hi. 2017 1.4 turbo. 6 speed manual. At this point in the build in this video it was factory turbo with an aftermarket wastegate that I sell on my website. And a modified air box

Have you had an issues with the Mamba wastegate? I watched a review and they said it wasnt a good wastegate to get? I was planning on getting it. 😓
Hello I haven’t had any issues. You will if you change to the wrong spring and do not get a tune. Here is a link to the mamba install that I did on my car also showing the boost difference as well.

Hello. It depends on what you have done to your car and what type of work you need done to the tune but I spent a little under $700 for everything.

Unfortunately the tune software only works with Windows products.
Unless you get a Virtual Machine in your computer it could work just need to run windows on it

I've got a 17 hatch with 47000 miles but I'm afraid to get it tuned because of the piston problems these things are said to have. I feel like the extra power will add stress to the pistons and accelerate the damage
@@chrisedgington9633 Probably a sound thought process. I can tell you this. I have 60,000 miles and a bunch of modifications done. If you follow my channel you can see everything I have done since day 1. Last dyno pulls had 255 ish HP and I will be going back to the dyno shooting for 300+ on a factory engine. Is it possible to blow an engine ....yes... It's also possible not to if you modd correctly. SIDE NOTE I also sell an intercooler that does wonders for engine longevity. Part of the problem with the oem set up is the intake temps are very hot. This causes piston problems.
@@davesworld2132 I've got an amerihood I just put on. The one with the big air scoop in the middle and the two vents on the side. I got it hoping it would add some extra circulation to the engine bay to help keep it a cooler under the hood. I've thought about getting a cold air intake but they've gone up $100 since covid🤦
