The reason the cruze was cracking pistons was due to a lot of different factors, one being that people were not changing their oil on time causing carbon soaked oil to make it's way past the piston rings causing pre detonation due to the fact that these engines are direct injected and the cylinder air temp when compressed gets very hot. Another factor is if you are running 87 it's a big no no for these engines, they run a decent compression couple with high cylinder pressure from boost causing pre ignition often especially when pressing the gas to pass someone at lower than 1500 rpm. Another factor is people just not knowing how to drive their car, I have a BNR tune and run as much as 21 lbs of boost on and off and have had no issues of cracked pistons. Changing your oil when the oil life says 40 percent is a good rule of thumb to keep high amounts of carbon out of the oil, also run 93 octane, God only knows why Chevy told people to run 87 is beyond me. Yes these engines do have cast pistons unfortunately and they are a weak point, the rods are actually pretty stout and the crank could probably handle 400 hp all day. Best thing follow the 93 octane, oil change around 40 percent life and down shift when passing don't step on the gas hard at low rpm rule.

A few but first things first. Do you have a tune? What year is your car? And who made the turbo?
@@davesworld2132 is sorry chevy cruse lt 2011 and haven't got a tune yet had my mechanic put a bigger turbo in the car he said my old turbo was shooting out the side so I haven't ever felt what it's like with power it goes 0 to 60 is 15 seconds and that's with the gas pedal all the way down this car is so slow I also can't go past 113 mph for some reason maybe you have some answers
@@jeffday6459 well first problem you could have is the engine will be severely lean. Not having a tune to back up the new flow of air will not adjust the Air fuel ratio properly.
@@davesworld2132 can I wait tell I have enough money for a tune?
@@jeffday6459 no because if you wait too long you will damage your engine. A $600 tune is more affordable than a $3000 engine.
Crack pistons is due to LSPI events. Poor quality oil use. This only occurs on 2016-2017 Cruze models. The 2017.5-2020 cruzes had a updated LE2 engine. While the 2016-2017 have a LE1 engine.
OK thank you I didn’t know there was two different engines. How can I check my car to see which engine or build date my engine is?
I have the 17 gen 2 Cruze
How can I check my engine to see if it is the 17.5
@@AOG_ETH Understood I will check the build date on my door but I heard they were also changing the early engines under warranty that’s why I was wondering if there was some sort of stamp on the engine.
@@davesworld2132 I would love to get a new free engine lol. I guess we could look up the recalls.
@@AOG_ETH lol. My father-in-law had a 2016 and it went in for a new engine
Are you tuned?
Hello not yet waiting for some new parts to come in before I get it tuned.
@@davesworld2132 Go BNR, best bang for your buck!
@@DraGScxpe I think I might go with them actually thank you.
My 1.4L turbo in my 2014 cruze doesn't look like this
This is a 2017 I have a play list in my channel for your generation Cruze
men this is really nice.... help lot..... thanks for make this videos.... what gauge...? in what are you recommend... thanks again.
Hi thank you. Are you asking about the boost gauge?
Yo! Love your vids, man. I have a 2017 Gen 2 Cruze LS I've been modding a bit (have most of the BNR parts installed as well, wastegate actuator & HPRV included) but I was curious what guage you're running? I currently have an Aeroforce but I like the look of yours, being that it's strictly boost. Does yours read vacuum as well or just boost from 0+?
Hey. Here’s A link to the whole playlist I have a video showing which gauge on how I put it in. It’s older and not as nice as my new videos but it’s helpful. I also have links to where you can order the parts I am using during the video in the description.

Hey! love your videos! I have a 2019 cruze and I stumbled on your channel, ever since then you've been my go to cruze guy! I watched this video and I wanted to install a wastegate ASAP but I also don't want to hurt my car, I dont have anything to check my Boost atm and I don't really care for crazy good results so my question is, is there a wastegate that I could buy, put it in my car and not worry about it without a tune? I'm also unexperienced but your step by step videos help me through it! I've already watched your intake video and I enjoy the sound of my car SO much more!
Hello how are you. They do make a factory replacement wastegate that’s pretty cheap. Did you already install the wastegate from the video?
@@davesworld2132 I didn't buy anything yet, I was just curious to see if you might know if there's somthing more in the middle between Factory wastegate and Mamba wastegate somthing I could put in my car and not worry about
@@seanepps74 Hi. Well if you use the mamba that I have in the video and it adjusted the same way you should be OK and if it’s adjusted incorrectly you’ll probably get a check engine light before something will blow up. Again I have to advise don’t do that unless you feel confident. They do sell a replacement wastegate I’ve seen on other auto parts websites that is a direct replacement but then you run into an issue where overtime it will get weak again. Which is why I made this video you can see there was a big difference before and after and it shows how weak the factory one was. By the way they sell some pretty cheap code readers that also have live data that you can read your boost with. You don’t necessarily need to have a gauge however I do have a cheap gauge in my car and here’s a video to show you how to do it.

@@davesworld2132 Awesome! Thanks for all the info I appreciate it very much! And keep making awesome videos!
My Cruze doesn’t have that heat shield. What year is yours?
2017
Is your car still under factory warranty? My guess is no.
I am the warranty lol. But yes for another year or so.
Tune required?
So far from what I can tell by speaking to a bunch of subscribers is as long as you’re with the yellow spring and you do your pre-load correctly you do not need a tune
@@davesworld2132 I plan on installing it on my 2018 Chevy Malibu with the same engine.
@@seangowan7441 If you have the 1.5 engine unfortunately I don’t think the actuator is removable you’re going to have to do some cutting and drilling.
Whats the actual part number?
Hi I have a few different part numbers let me know if this one works for you.

Dam i only get 7 pounds of boost wtf
What waste gate do you have?
