Construction Site Arrowheads - Digging The Texas Hill Country

- At the right place at the right time. Got the opportunity to rake through dirt from the construction of a large drainage ditch. The top 18" was full of points and artifacts. NOTE This was not a viable archaeological site. Years of farming and modern usage have destroyed the diagnostic data.

I do construction and I’ve found 2 arrowheads. 1 was in a roadside ditch we excavated cleaned up existing ditch , the other was on a FED EX facility after stripping the whole site from topsoil .
That biscuit/shaped stone is a chunky stone. A gaming piece and really a cool find!!!

great vid! thanks! yup the shell [ i just call it shell] is a great place to dig ,here in florida that is what we look for!
Good save!
Wow nice score man very nice
Great stuff! Central Texas points are SO much better than the stuff we find up here in NE Texas.
We were building a launch/landing site in Spaceport, New Mexico. On the first month of construction a hatchet was found and they shut the site down for 2 days. Next time people found stuff we were told to just throw it back and not tell anyone.
Lol...happens every day
I live here in Big Spring Texas and they just renovated the historical spring. and I have a sweet spot near Moss Lake
Wana show a fella whos green a few things ? Id buy lunch or offer to trade some of my fishing spots and come pick you up and drop u..provide all the gear if u dont have your own

Awesome, I live around Helotes. That would be fun, I haven’t found any arrowheads yet just tools. If you ever need another hand, I’d love to meet up.
3432devildog - Helotes is close! I’ll definitely send you an invite if we get into something like this again.
Nice ditch
Where can I start looking between Austin, Houston and San Antonio?
I'm ready
We could've used your help on this one! Time was against us!
nice hook up
Awesome! Too bad you couldn’t have checked all of the dirt.👍🇺🇸
I've lost sleep at night knowing that dirt was covered back up!
Detecting4Life I know what you mean, my buddy had his house built on a campsite and I was digging in the dozer pile for months and didn’t even get half of it before it hit spread out and seeded, found one of my best points ever in it. The place is loaded with artifacts.👍🇺🇸
Are you going to sift any of it? Great finds fellas.
We had to head home but my friend who lives down there threw together a mechanized sifter. They ran a few loads through it before rain set in. They found a few more broken points. After the rain delay the boss man said they were behind schedule and ordered the dirt to be hauled to another site to fill in a different ditch. The owner of the company said we could have the good dark dirt to sift at our leisure if we had a way to haul it home. Unfortunately I didn't know anyone in the trucking industry :(
I just started homeschooling my 3 kids. Arrowheads, Indian artifacts, and local history is something I want to really dig into with my kids. Do y'all have any suggestions on books, resources, and places we could use and visit? We're in central Texas.
Awesome Queen of Leisure! When I first became interested in points, my favorite book was "A Field Guide to Stone Artifacts of Texas Indians". That was before the internet. Now I just Google everything...lol
Sharing is caring
SO AMAZING!! Do you mind sharing what county this was in?
Sure! This was in Gillespie County.
I work construction sometimes....aint got no friends like that... I wana come find a few if its ever a situation u have to fill stuff back in!
Your on the list now, Robert. If it happens again we'll send you a message!

@@Detecting4Life 🔥🔥😮😮😮🔥🔥💥💥yes sir ! Will do
why are the 'points' in the dark dirt?... were they buried with these artifacts or just dropped
The way it was described to me by a veteran artifact hunter was that this dark layer was the original layer they camped on. The points and other items were dropped or lost during daily activities. Over the centuries the dirt has built up through natural processes putting this "use" layer down to the 12-18" mark on this particular site.
can you imagine all the stuff being found due to people from the north & california moving in, thus causing all this construction around Texas exposing artifacts
Yesterday I found an arrow head at work. If anyone knows what Indians lived in the woodlands Texas please let me know.
Have you been to the anubis caves in Oklahoma
I haven't heard of them until your comment. I had to Google them... very interesting!
If there's anymore digging in that area, we'll pay $40 to dig
If this situation ever comes up again you can come dig for free so that we can save as many relics as possible.
I live in Austin..where is that dig site? I'll be there!!
When they dig the third ditch we'll call you!
U need a small wash plant water.
Awesome video and finds! I'm from Georgetown, Texas here and have been looking for places to dig for a while now. Heard you only got 2 guys digging and would love to help whenever you have an opportunity, best points I've found have been from Bell County. Send me a message would love to hear back!
Thanks!
Thank you! Next time we get into something like that we'll be giving you a shout!
WHAT INDIAN ERA WOULD THIS BE IN?
I'm guessing Middle Archaic. I'm by no means an expert so my guess is based on the points we found.
This is clearly an archaeological site. Up here in Canada this sort of site destruction would be a crime. Why is there no archaeological excavation going on?!
Calm down Geoff. This is site is too shallow. Years of farming and modern usage have destroyed the diagnostic data. At least we were able to save a few relics before modern urbanization paved over it.
Including that sort of information in your video title and description would be recommended then. Site looting is a major concern in the archaeology community. Seeing artifacts being dug up by machinery is quiet shocking. Thank you for the clarification and the reply.
Thanks Geoff...Good suggestion. I have added the explanation to the video description.
id come help in a heartbeat!!!! just call me. where are you at!?
This took place near Fredericksburg, TX. We’ll call you! Thanks for the sub!!
awwww i live in illinois wish i lived there close
Could just slap the piss out of the camera guy for not getting a long, good close up of the blade at the end...Damn shame
Jesus died and rose again just believe in him
Those artifacts are a part of that land, the only trace left of the people who too were a part of that land for over 10,000 years. They may not be in stratified context, but they are still the static signature of the living humans who were once there. I completely share the fascination and reverence for their culture with you, but you must understand that you've now erased that signature, and taken the power of those artifacts away from that land to horde it for yourself in your home. Please just consider that, and consider that most (not all) indigenous descendants do not appreciate what you're doing, and they would appreciate your repatriating the tools to them. Consider letting the artifacts continue their journey in the ground.
The only journey those artifacts were taking, if they even survived the trip, was from one drainage ditch to another. I didn't erase anything. I was merely at the right place at the right time to rescue them. As for hording artifacts, I would kindly ask you to take a big dose of STFU since you have no clue what I do with relics.
Ms. White
Shhhhhhush! Thats ridiculous
