I would say, Strade Bianchi is monument worthy And, contrary to the other Monuments, this one doesn’t need +250 km to be monumental.

That acceleration by MVDP at the end was superhuman.

@@crosca82 might be something close to 1800 watts i guess. Nothing to spicy. It's just the fact he had way better legs at the end.

alaphilippe has surely less brutal power but he is way better when the climb is a bit longer than just 1km
Hard race for any one team to control.Probably why it's usually such a treat to watch.
Always nice to see aggressive riders like van der Poel and Alaphilippe being rewarded for putting themselves out there.
Also Pidcock seems to be continuing his mercurial rise.

What a fantastic race!
This race combines the best of Paris Roubaix and Liege Bastogne. That also explains the top line-up which one rarely sees in a one day race, both grand tour winners and the best classic riders together in the lead group battling it out. I doubt we will see another lead group like that in any other race this season.
seeing how the look on MvdPs face as he trots across the finish line makes it seem like he's not even trying right now. Dude is on another planet right now it seems

@Law Pli They didn’t ride cyclocross races just to work on their stamina... The best way to improve your stamina and other aspects for road cycling, is by training for it, not by riding races in another branch of the sport. So WVA and MVDP actually have a disadvantage, because they don’t solely focus on the road discipline. If that wasn’t the case - but it most certainly is - then others should and would do it as well.

This kid is a beast, can be competitive everywhere in the cycling also in the GT for the overall ( was great on mortirolo at the giro u23 last season) I hope to see this guy fight a.s.a.p also in the biggest climbs of tdf, giro and vuelta for the overall !
🤔 He has a weight advantage compared to van Aert and van der Poel which will make him a great contender for the Great tours...Only there will be Remco van Evenepoel as a serious rival waiting for him...

Van der Poel is the best cyclist there is right now.
For one day races probably the best right now. Imo he could win some GT races but win a GT overall dont think so. There is alot of climbers that will pull his leggs off on a long climbs... Still a great win tho

Yeah, and it looks like his BACK has healed well... good news for the battle with pogacar in the upcoming TDF. Because together with Evenepoel (not this year in de Tdf)... they are the biggests talents for grand Tours for the coming years (until another super talent arrives).

Alaphillipe is a twig, mvdp can easily overpower him on hills, but loses from him on actual mountains/climbs

He is clean...he's a super talent and he's been winning almost every race since hé started at age 10, it would be more suspiciues if he was always mediocre in the past and then suddenly started being much better. Remember, he's was also world champion when he was a junior (on the road and in cyclocross)

The lingering prob for me is that eg E Merckx the greatest got busted three times for drugs, kicked out of giro in pink
The father of vdp was v gd rider bordering on great, it Wd have been highly unusual for father of vdp not to have been on drugs in that era

@@GOlone9597 True, until he's bored with that, and will focus on different things. :) Would love to see him against Pog in a major stage race. He knows he doesn't train sufficiently on climbs yet, but once he does, I assume he'll try to be good at it. Lose maybe 2 kilos more, and he's set for stage races imho. We'll see.

MVDP was never that great on "hilly" cross courses so this is quite surprising....was he training for this race?

his 10 minute power has always been world class. The hills where is at a deficit are the longer ones in the mountains in Grand Tours. The climbs in Strade Bianche are right up his alley.
he did these kind of steep uphill sprints in 2019 a lot on the MTB scene, beating Schurter and others ..... not a surprise for me. People tend to underestimate his (short) climb ability a lot. When he puts the hammer down no one can keep his wheel

@@pablodaxo9591 You don't have a clue about MTB I see. Also in CX Mathieu wins 75% to van Aert 25% . Van Aert is incredibly strong but he misses the punch VdP has. At the end of their careers we'll see. But in CX and MTB van Aert will never level with VdP ..... van Aert focusses mainly on road and still has a hard time keeping up with VdP who is a part time road racer ;)
