As a goth on my first trip to London in the 90s, I made my mandatory pilgrimage to Highgate cemetery. The local cabby was unusually thrilled he was driving a teen gloom-cookie and her cheerful middle-aged father hailing from California to Highgate. Strange and or spooky sightseeing is our thing. He was excited to regale us with the vampire legend, which he had lived through and had his account of. He also returned in two hours to pick us up and take us to Camden Market. He made a local pub recommendation and ended up returning to having lunch with us. Really interesting guy, a fountain of knowledge and it was a great lunch.
As a new Swiftie, for a few seconds I thought maybe you were Taylor Swift, because in her song London Boy she mentions Highgate (but not a cemetery) and Camden Market. Sorry, I couldn't resist commenting 😁
😳 I live very close to Highgate and was extremely unaware there are vampires in these parts. I’ve been sleeping with my windows open, that’ll be the first thing to change
Oh my good god I obviously have been multiple times to Highgate cemetery. Highgate Mental Health Centre is backed onto it and I used to have weekly appointments there. So afterwards, at first I would go to the cemetery for a cigarette. At first it was super beautiful but then it felt creepy as all hell after a while and I stopped going. There’s a park right next to it so I just went there. The cemetery has this whole vibe and it’s not a cool one
P.S. like I do not believe in ghosts or god or any of the things. I’m pretty rational but I deffo got some type of vibe. I remember literally running out one morning. I can’t explain why. Maybe some sound wave phenomena thingy or something. Probably that. But gosh you have me spooked right now lol
I am fascinated by older cemeteries. Have been to Highgate and it is amazing. I know it sounds like a weird hobby, but a cemetery is the safest place to be.
Not weird. We have an outdoor movie theater at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, final resting place of many stars of the Golden Era of Hollywood like Rudolph Valentino & Judy Garland, movie mogul Cecil B DeMille, as well as modern day rock star types like Chris Cornell & and couple of the Ramones. They have over 30 events there every year! Great place to catch a scary movie! Google “Cinespia” ✌🏼
Someone has suggested a while ago that Keith's haunted house might be a long-lasting prank from his wife, and Mike is in cahoots with her. I want to believe it to be true! Also, congrats on the 100k!
Hahah imagine after all this time😄 if it were a movie, after it was revealed that it was all a prank they'd find out that one of hauntings wasn't his wife and the house was haunted all along anyway
Still loving the movie chat to start the pod. Vampires have never been my favorite corner of horror, but "30 Days of Night" is one of my favorite fliks. As a child of the 80's, "Lost Boys" is a classic.
I also love the movie chat. Anyone remember "From Dusk Til Dawn?" We dont know its a vampire flick til about half way in and then- BAM! Another classic. 4:32
I rarely comment on UA-cam stories, but I felt I had to share my “Vampire “ story with you. I am the youngest of 5, 4 boys and 1 girl, growing up in Vermont. When we were kids and would get into trouble, our mother would put us about 2 or 3 steps down in the basement. She would say “Whatever you do, don’t make any noise or turn on the light, because you’ll wake up Johnny Vampire. And believe me, you don’t want to wake up Johnny Vampire!” She would then close the door, wait about 30-45 seconds and ask if we were going to behave. We definitely agreed to behave!! Whenever we would move, she would ask my father if he had been sure to pack up and load all of Johnny Vampires things. He said he did and we thought that Johnny Vampire moved to wherever we were living. I don’t remember how old I was when I figured out that there was no Johnny Vampire, but to this day I give her credit for coming up with one of the most imaginative ways to get your kids to stop misbehaving!!
Thank your stars you didn't grow up in Iceland... they don't have Santa over there, they have a giantess called Gryla, one of the most evil figures in Icelandic folklore, and horror stories about her are still told to children over the festive season. At Christmas the towns are decorated with life size papier mache dolls of Gryla. "Throughout the year, it is said that she collects whispers about children around the island misbehaving, and when winter sets in, she sets out to gather them. Her appetite for the flesh of naughty youths is insatiable, and each year, she finds no shortage of her favorite crop. Collecting them up in a sack, she then cooks them in a pot and turns them into a giant stew that will sustain her until the next winter." Oh, and she has thirteen sons (called the Yule Lads) who each have very strange, spooky and disturbing habits. In the 18th century the government actually banned parents from using stories of Gryla and sons as scare tactics to get their kids to behave!
Mike, I've seen the book on the Salem witch trials on your shelf in the background on your main channel, so I know you're just as much of a fan as Keith. 😁

I’m in Baton Rouge also! (well, Gonzales, but same thing, “Baton Rouge metropolitan area); I dunno why I get excited when I see someone else from Louisiana or Baton Rouge. 😂
Aloha from Honolulu! So happy for our dynamic duo hitting 100,000 subscribers…Mike & Keith have really created a wonderful wee corner of the internet filled with their chapters, our chapters, and that chapter❣️🥰❤️
I think the first vampire 'movie' I saw was the 1979 miniseries Salem's Lot. One of my favorites is Fright Night with Chris Sarandon as the vampire. I'm also a huge Mel Brooks fan and love Dracula, Dead and Loving It. Does anyone else remember the comedy vampire movie Once Bitten with a very young Jim Carrey and Cleavon Little as the vampire's familiar? Campy fun.
Loving the That Chapter podcast as well as the channel. Having someone to bounce your thoughts off works so well and Keith is excellent. You’re both equally funny and tell the story really well - thanks for this xx
Maybe the cat Keith!? It could have been a partial paw print and she/he jumped before she/he put his/her full weight on the wall!!?? I know you mentioned it comes in through the window sometimes!!
Maybe you'll mention this, but I'm getting ready to to drive & you 2 make the best companions for a long commute. (CONGRATS ON THE MILESTONE 🎉) We've always believed The Highgate Vampire was Dave Vanian from "The Damned" his attire is perfect for it & at the exact time of these vampire sightings the band was recording an album nearby. They had a shoestring budget so they recorded late at night after hours & Dave used to love strolling through Highgate Cemetery during breaks in recording.
Congrats guys! The movie 'The Descent' is a good movie, all I remember is if you have claustrophobia then this is for you. It doesn't have any aliens but is still a good movie
I’ve always been on board with serial killer movies/documentaries but have just started watching real horror movies last year. Slashers were an easy step but it took me forever to start watching ghost/possession movies. The idea always terrified me but they have actually become some of my favorites, The Conjuring and Insidious in particular. Oddity was really good, I think you’ll enjoy it!
I loved watching the old vampire films when I was a kid, nothing scared me. For a moment I thought you were going to say 'and if you visit Highgate Cemetery today - you can still smell the garlic'.🤣
Mike: Don't interrupt me! Also Mike: Are you going to say something or just sit there and stare (even though I have not shut up for a millisecond) Poor Keith, lucky they are old pals 😂
Over the weekend I watched almost every horror movie Mike recommended in the past two episodes. I didn't watch Legend of Hell House, I've seen it more than once. Milk and Serial was insane. Worth a watch. Trap was meh. Longlegs was actually pretty awesome. The atmosphere filled me with dread, which rarely happens. Although, I disagreed with Mike's opinion of Late Night with the Devil. I enjoyed it. Next is The Empty Man. I love these new movie reviews on the podcast.
Glad you enjoyed Romulus. I would recommend Alien 3 director's cut. It adds a lot to the story and characters and to me it's very underappreciated movie (but each to his own). Edit: That British accent was hilarious!

Scariest movies for me are the first ‘Carrie’, last bit really scared me. It was 46 years ago bc I was pregnant with my 46 year old old son. I had to sleep with blankets over my head. Stephen King’s, ‘ Silver Highway’ I think it’s called, that was horrible, had to stop watching it bc I was alone in the house, had a nightmare that night. The ‘Grunge’ is scary, couldn’t watch it. ‘ Hereditary’ another horrible, scary movie.
Hey guys ! I’m at the beginning of the podcast but had to comment…… I too love the first The Mummy movie. Anytime it’s on, no matter how far in I catch it , I end up watching ……. Love.

The Crow taught me that at a verrry young age… cemeteries are the safest place to be Bc everybody’s dead 🖤
