Hi Chris, what your video shows very well is how much a very small amount of cant can affect accuracy, particularly at longer ranges. Also apparent is the drop in trajectory of the .22 pellet over the last few metres as can be seen clearly. It would be instructive to repeat with a .177.

Can I ask what mounts were used for the scope? The reason I ask is that bsa use 13mm rails & nearly every video I see of a bsa rifle with a scope, nigh on every time (where you get a view of the mounts) the wrong mounts are used. A standard set of 11mm mounts will fit on the rails but they don't sit properly, the clamps are splayed out & it produces a tiny amount of cant. When my lad bought his ultra with a scope fitted he'd zero at 25yrds or so but at 35yrds+ his shots were wide every time. Nice groups but wide. I had a go myself with the same result. Then I remembered about the 13mm rails, checked the mounts & indeed they were splayed out slightly...11mm mounts. Bought a set of sportsmatch 13mm & all was well thereafter. Sorry for going on a bit but as I said. I see this a lot.

Sometimes , the mount plate can be turned round to accommodate the BSA rail , I did say sometimes , guess it depends on what mount you buy , even so ,its easy to profile the fixing plate to work with the 13mm rail , can be tricky , and you have to get it bob on I reckon , personally you've done the right thing by buying a descent set that will fit out ofc the packet . BSA , great rifles , but why different rails? Beats me

    Great review - again!!
    They are lovely little rifles.
I went the whole hog and got a BSA R10TH Super Carbine in .177 as my way back into the sport around 2 years ago - it was an absolute laser with JSB exact 5.50 out to 50m/55m. Of course the reg broke but I wasn't too bothered, all fixed under warranty and no probs up until I sold it 6 months later. I ended up selling it because I got quite heavily back into pest control for the local farmer in my village, then managed to pick up a handful of permissions in quick succession and couldn't stomach the constant banging/scratching of the beautiful Minelli walnut stock! I've now got an HW110k .177 which is a laser with JSB Heavy out to 45m, extremely light and very durable - as I my luck I've also has the enviable power loss issue with that too - all sorted under warranty and off to HW100 tuning in a few weeks for a tune.
If I had my time again I'd go for the one you've got there but in .177 - the same internals as the R10th, just more durable lighter and a slightly smaller bottle.
I wonder how long it will be before BSA come out with a side leaver version of the R10 like the new Ultra? Will be very interested to see that. The new mag system on the CLX seems to be an improvement too.
    Anyways, badger time over...
    Stay safe and Go Well!!
    Rich

Not a .22 shooter as a rule , subsequently I only own two ( well 4 if you count the pp700 & my 1973/4 bsa mercury ) but basically two .. that said , I thought id give one of em a bit of a run out during the holidays , and I found it quite fun , not particularly challenging ( at home ) on 30mtr range but fun nonetheless .. its a BSA R10 btw , just like the one you've just demonstrated , got a camo stock , which was originally on my .177 R10 , reason for that is the .22 was my sons , and was a right hand stock ( walnut ) and I bought it off him so it would help him fund ( either a shot gun or an FAC rifle of some sort , can't remember now ) anyway .. I put the right hand stock on the .177 as I didn't use it so often , having own mostly .177's .. not gonna do any opinion stuff ( yet ) just gonna say
    R10 .177 ( mine ) pellet fussy as hell
R10 .22 shoots any quality pellets
    Chalk and cheese rifles ..
Great shooting Chris .. just makes me realise how poor I am at shooting , gorra get me self straight after covid .. at least I can write me name now , I struggled a fortnight ago ..lol

The most important thing is your health Mark. Shooting has very little importance compared to one's health. I really appreciate your comments, and I could tell something was up when there was radio silence for a while, but I'm glad you are on the mend. It is lovely to hear nice comments about the shooting too... But the truth is, it's about having fun!

Hi I love my R10s . But I must say I have never seen a review that mentions the poor nickel plating on the cocking bolts I have had to replace and or buff of the nickel plating . I also have a huma regulator fitted to my R 10 . It’s a shame BSA can’t or won’t sort the problem out . But as you say they a lovely looking rifles and lovely to shoot . Regards Michael

I hear about bad regs. But my FAC 177cal R10SE is as consistent as anything I have ever seen. 30 shots with a ES of 8 and SD of 1. This is the factory reg, shooting 13.43 JSB Monsters at 825fps. I have never adjusted anything.
If you buy any PCP, remember this one thing. SHOOT IT........Don't let it set inside a safe for 6 months. The regs, valve and seals like to be exercised often. I have shot thousands of rounds and never had one issue. So shoot the rifle weekly if possible. It also keeps moisture from setting up and doing damage.
The FAC FX, Daystate, Air Arms, or whatever else can't shoot anymore consistently than the BSA R10SE.
    Excellent review 🎯👍🇺🇸

Hi Chris, thank you yet again for an honest review, particularly one with this rifle. Since looking more seriously into the R10 I have seen many accounts of regulator issues and loss of power. It seems that BSA are failing to acknowledge this is an issue, but can be rectified by swapping out the factory installed regulator for a huma, and a quick spot of tuning. I am not at all put off by this, especially when rifles such as the weihrauch hw110 also suffer from loss of power issues. I think the BSA r10 is a great looking bit of kit and coupled with the cold hammer forged barrel, you know it’s going to hit the spot. I’d imagine the team at crackshot would be happy to test power over a chronograph on purchase. They are a good bunch and I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking to buy a gun.

    • @southwestshooters
      @southwestshooters  2 роки тому +3

You are very welcome. I can't really comment on the regulator issue, other than saying, it speaks of the importance of having contacts with shops like Crackshot. Either, through buying the gun through them or knowing them so they can help you out when you need it. James is the man when it comes to this. But for me, if a reg change does help, it would certainly be worthwhile!

@@heithwatkins Maybe. Sometimes I think sub 12 airguns regs break more is because they are lower pressure, but honestly I have no clue in the subject I have just seen a lot of r10s that need new regs or sometimes a whole new gun because the gun can't get an actual group. I do like BSA, but I could never see myself owning a r10 because the ultra looks so much nicer and I think they need to add a carbon bottle to them too
