I’m a 52 yr old dude who’s finally learning guitar. My teacher who’s obviously really good tells me that as soon as he starts to think he’s ‘good’ he listens to Steve Howe and it very quickly brings him back to reality.
You youngsters! I wish you well on your journey! I'm older and have a ukulele that i'm still afraid to engage with. Failure's a cross we have to bear! [Yes fan for decades]
@@bnbwhitezombie What is worse, I heard it and missed the DJ's announcement and taped it all the same. So, until very recently I found out what it was, that I had been liking for decades. Difficult to trace without any lyrics, but Google found it for me. It tramspires that my original recording is still the best version I heard of it.
Steve Howe has been my favorite guitarist since 1971. Five times in a row Guitar Player magazine's Guitarist Of The Year. The way he moves from caressing the fretboard to out right attacking it is truly stunning and beautiful to watch. Listen to Awaken from the Going For The One album to hear what is, in my view, his greatest fretwork. He is a true Master.
Early '70 : the mainstream called for Steve Howe to one the best pupils of Segovia. Most likely not true, but his touch on classical nylon strings reminds me of the Spanish Maestro.. 👏👏👏
I learned this song from a Filipino kid in 1974. He was incredible and played it note for note. At the time, the most difficult song to play, much less master. One of the highlights of my life. The life's we touch and those that touch us...... Priceless!
Absolutely stunningly beautiful piece. He hasn’t lost anything with age either. I’ve just shared this on my page to expose other people to him citing he was voted best guitarist by guitar magazine 5 years in a row. Excellent musician. His vocal are very nice too.
The song that made me pick up the guitar.. Til this day if I ever want to impress another guitarist I always jam this.. The bass lines stand out so vibrantly..
En mi humilde opinión, Steve se encuentra entre los cinco mejores guitarristas de todos los tiempos del Rock. Lo anterior por su versatilidad y sonidos con los que nos deleita al tocar este bello instrumento.
Absolutely beautiful been a Yes fan all my life and of course a huge Steve Howe fan fortunate to see them live in Manchester arena in the late 90's when my son was a teenager and Yes with the original line up although my son had never even probably listened to Yes he enjoyed the concert one of those times that are happy memories
I am amazed by the way his left hand glides from note to note, seemingly with stopping during the faster the parts of this incredibly beautiful and (mini-) raphsodic piece.
Always wondered what artists like Steve Howe are seeing on the fret board when writing songs like this. It would be interesting to see through their eyes/mind to see what inspired them for the song
Oh my rushes forward along with this is gorgeous and one lands squarely in the camp of ' hey, I'm thinking magical level wonderment indeed 'not only exists ' it's so very and amazingly available to us as humanoids and why we don't demand reasonable dialogue is kinda hard to figure.
Beautiful rendition of Mood For A Day. One of Steve's best pieces ever. I remember it touched me the first time I heard it when I was probably around 16 or 17 and bought Fragile, the third Yes album I bought, I think. I've heard it so many times, including live. Many people love "Clap!" from The Yes Album. which is a nice joyful piece inspired by old fashioned jazz style but I much prefer this one, because it's in a classical and folk style... Steve really has a weird technique : it seems as if he plays mostly with his right hand's thumb to pick the strings, we don't see his other fingers move much... except the forefinger but it's hardly noticeable here... I wonder what a classically-trained guitarist would think of that way.
Hello the appreciative guitar players and listeners who know great music when it’s heard. As a guitarist myself (only for my own amusement) It took me so long to learn this song, incorporating so many styles, amazing. To learn this song takes practice practice practice, and having learned the parts, you’ve essentially learned many songs, Steve is amazing to be sure.
It is rumored that he plays by ear, and formal music theory was not taught to him, he learned on his own. I can’t read music myself, but I can play, and the enjoyment and feeling of accomplishment is truly worth the effort. I salute you all !
@@rogerellis2667 Depends on what the size of the guitar neck is. Howe's fingers look bigger on an acoustic compared to an classical which has a bigger neck. And I'm sure they look even bigger on an electric cause the necks are most of the time smaller than an acoustic.

He is brilliant, although IMO some of his rock guitar in Yes was so far ahead of its time, it was hard to understand or see why it was in that particular song.
Astral Traveller if Jimmy Page truly sold his soul to the devil he should have asked for one tenth of Steve Howe's ability instead of an endless supply of groupies.
I really like Steve Howe’s brilliant ensemble playing in Yes. Always inventive, played with the heart. This, on the other hand, is just not his forte. I doubt he even likes this recording.

Yeah that's definitely relatable haha.

What about Mark Knopfler?

His economy of movement on the fretboard is God-level.
