This has been my "Mood for a Day" song since I was fourteen in 1971. Does my heart good to see someone so young appreciate it and learn to play it so beautifully.
Very nice, Bravo! You realize, in my day the way we learned this song (and Clap and anything else) was to spin the record for a second and try to hear everything in a phrase and then try to play it. Then repeat that as many times as needed for a phrase and move to the next 1 second of music. Took a long time. These days there are books with tabs and Steve himself is so kind as to have online videos of him playing many of his parts and pieces. I have been relearning it lately and removing my (now nearly 50 year old) errors of by ear transcription of both this and Clap. Bravo to the next generation. The Yes of Steve Howe's period in the 70s will live forever. Some of the most ecstatic moments of my life have occurred at Yes concerts.
I learned to play this from listening to him play it and watching his fingerings. I mostly took the route of learning the main melody first and then adding in the bass notes after.
I Ditto Robin's comment... Ive listened to that piece thousands of times. Great rendition... You truly captured the feeling of the song, not just a robotic mimic... Great job!
I've been playing guitar on and off for 40 years and can't come close to this. And such a beautiful young woman doing it as well. I want to turn back the clock and be more diligent in my playing.
Excellent Elyssa Silverman !!! Your neck fingerings are very close to mine. I spent 48 hours on a weekend with a cassette player, going bar by bar and finding the notes via my ear 32 years ago. The only basic difference between your version and mine, is that I ended that song with a harmonic on the 5th fret of the high E-string via my left pinky finger, which would be an A note. Well done !!!
Yo, I’ve been trying this song for a while, and, gotta say, very well placed Rubattos haha, you dodge some of the ridiculously fast lines while giving the melody great rhythmic punctuation
Really good job! I really like how you made it your own and how you handled each individual part of the tune, with the changes in tempo and so on 😊 Really cool!!
November, 2018 Been listening to and enjoying this song - For decades ! The chords, and finger movements are astounding, And I was so impressed.....Admittedly, I was wondering how anyone could produce the quality of sound, that Howe does on this piece...And, you nailed it . Excellent cover.
Elyssa Silverman ... Quite welcome... It’s a beautiful tune, and; I have to believe, a difficult one to master. Listening to the Yes, since the 70’s.... And, though I have no pedigree in Music... I’m so critical ( pos and neg) of those trying to duplicate their efforts.
That shelf is gonna fall.
Hahahaha!
Was going to write...you need a man to fix your shelf! 420
It's for her new song...A hard shelfs gonna fall!
Simplemente bellísimo.
I was too mesmerized by the perfection of the music to notice the imperfection of the furniture...
