I wonder if Dennis wanted to sing the theme tune/write the theme tune in Scars of Dracula. He probably suggested it.
@brianjames5685 😁😁 that would be amazing wouldn't it Brian 🤣👍👍
Hey John, great review! I love the Hammer Horror films, especially the Dracula series. I think Hammer's Dracula is much more superior to Coppola's Dracula.
There's something iconic about Peter Cushing, sprinting across the table and pulling those curtains down.
Scars of Dracula is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love that we get a small origin story of Michael Rippers character. How he wants to destroy Dracula and when he sees what happens to his wife and the others, he becomes a bitter person who doesn't want to get involved.
I also like that Christopher Lee has something to do. He has more screen time here than any other Dracula film he did.
I like that they put the scene where he climbs up the wall and Paul's gruesome death. In Hammer Horror films, you can't throw a rock without hitting a Paul.
Yeah, it might be a little violent, but the vendors were easing up in the mid to late seventies. So, Hammer up'ed the violence and nudity to attract more people.
Hope you do more Hammer Horror films. Keep up the great work!!!
Cheers John 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah I can definitely see Hammer making a return to the channel after a break, the news of a 4k has got me revisiting them and I have a lot of fond memories as a kid which I'm sure are shared by lots of people 😁😁👍👍 great breakdown of this film John! All those scenes are great and I never really thought about it but yeah Christopher Lee is very much a part of this one! Probably unlike any since Dracula 58 🤩🤩👌👌 Michael Ripper was a legend and he back story is his most fleshed out for sure 😁😁👏👏 thanks for watching John 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John. Chris Lee always maintained he was largely shamed into the Dracula pictures by the Hammer producers, “The set carpenters need to feed their families Chris” that sort of thing. Him not being in Brides of Dracula is a real loss as that is fantastic and probably has my favorite portrayal by Cushing as Van Helsing. I’ve always loved Dracula AD 1972, I’ve never understood the hate, Chris Lee was a purist and thought Dracula didn’t work in a modern setting but overall Caroline Munro and Johnny Alucard are a totally blast for me.
Interesting Wolf 🤔👍 I never could quite understand why Lee was not a fan of working with Hammer on Dracula but that would make sense if they "guilt tripped" him into it 🤔😵💫 Cushing is great in Brides of Dracula 🤩👏👏 I think they needed to change Dracula and bringing into modern times worked really well for me Wolf 😁😁 Caroline Munro is fantastic, and Johnny Alucard is one of the best characters in the Dracula series for me mate 👌👌 cheers again Wolf 🤩🤩👍👍
Good evening John,
Keep up the fantastic channel with all these new and exciting updates.
I’m still waiting patiently for a particular film I’m so fond of.
The Swedish 2008 movie ( LET THE RIGHT ONE IN ).
I bet this movie would look stunning in 4K.
The wait goes on………….
Cheers Paul 😁😁👍👍 thanks mate, so happy to finally see a Hammer on 4k 🤩🤩👏👏 I've had that film in my collection for a long time and not seen it yet Paul 😵💫 everyone says its really good 👍👍 it seems like to good of a filum not to be out in 4k Paul 🤞🤞 thanks again mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John. Great reviews as always. Hammer movies should look great in 4k. Always entertaining when Messrs Cushing and Lee are on the screen! 👍👍👍
Hi Richard thanks mate 😁😁👍👍 done right I've got high hopes for the Hammer films Richard 🤞🤞😁😁 one of the best duos of all time mate 🤩🤩👏👏
Dracula AD 1972 is a groovy movie John. I love it and hope it gets a 4K release
Couldn't be more groovier mate! I really hope so too Voodoo 🤞🤞🤩🤩👍👍
Hi john I hope that they bring out all of the Dracula movies on 4k with loads of extras
Yeah Mike, can't see them stopping at 1 Dracula film!! 🤔🤔 at least I hope not Mike 🤯🤞🤞🤩🤩👍👍
Nice video as usual John, some good and interesting stuff there. I was actually surprised at first that Kino acquired the rights to do a 4K of Scars of Dracula, but then I remembered they have some of kind of deal with StudioCanal on some stuff. Hammer films in 4K does sound very enticing and interesting, especially the luscious color cinematography that adorned their films. I'm actually still on a Kino boycott due to a release they made a huge disc spec error on and they never got back to me on my inquiry about it, but that's a story for another time. StudioCanal has done very impressive work with the Hammer Films for sure, and there's a few I still need to pickup. For a long while I thought they were snobbish when they didn't renew their long term deal with the Criterion Collection for a few years, but all that changed for the better and now I'm really enjoying the immense library of French Cinema and other films they have. As a kid, Christopher Lee terrified me, that menacing gaze he would put on just creeped the hell out of me, and today I see him as of the finest and well-spoken actors out there, and kind of see it as a shame he got pigeon-holed in Horror. There's a good fan documentary on UA-cam about Lee's struggle with Hammer regarding the Dracula character, and Lee always felt the writers weren't creative enough when trying to make new scenarios for the Count. That, and the producers were always threatening to lay off crew members if Lee didn't do more Dracula films, and Warner Bros. deciding not to renew the US distribution deal with Hammer. A whole tell-all Bio pic could've been done on Lee's relationship with Hammer and Dracula. Take care my friend, hope you and the Bebs are well, and speak to you soon.
Thanks Nash, I'll definitely check out that documentary! You're right it could definitely make an interesting film about the whole dynamics of Dracula and Christopher Lee 😁😁👍👍 the Hammer films are sumptuous for sure mate and I remember when we first got a colour TV in the 70s is was amazing to see colour Horror and buckets of blood 🤩🤩 haha we are sick aren't we 😵💫🤣🤣👌👌 cheers Nash all good here mate, take care bud 🤩🤩👍👍
Thank you John.
Many thanks for watching as always Cheekster 😁😁👍👍
This is great news John, but, and this is a big but, there would have to be some decent new extras to get me to triple dip on these Hammer titles. For me, if there's only a small upgrade in picture quality I won't be buying them again 😐
I know what you mean Mark.... only thing I'm hoping is that the masters that were done previously was a few years ago and maybe the upgrade will be really noticeable 🤞🤞 hopefully no AI as I don't think it will benefit these at all mate 🤯🤯 I'm afraid I'll have to go for the Frankenstein & Dracula ones at least.... but will probably go for whatever comes out 😵💫😵💫🤣🤣👍👍
Awesome content and collection
@pieeater4877 thanks Pieeater 😁😁 appreciate that mate 🤩🤩👍👍
I'm definitely getting SCARS 4K. My Top 5 Hammer 4K wants would be: Horror of Dracula... Dracula Prince of Darkness ... Brides of Dracula ... Dracula has Risen from the Grave ... and ... Curse of Frankenstein.
Can't wait Ken 😁😁👍👍 yeah all solid picks there mate 🤩🤩 out of those I would say Curse of Frankenstein and Horror of Dracula would be my top wants Ken 😁😁👌👌
Looks a nice edition that one matey.. going to be looking at fulling some gaps in my Hammer and Amicus sets after the nasties collection is complete or as close to complete as I can get.. Then onto Tigon which you've got me interested in now lol
It's a nice one indeed Marcus 🤩🤩👌👌 I'm concentrating on these Tigon/Amicus/Hammer films at the moment mate, you know when you get a passion for it all of a sudden 😁😁👍👍 and I'll DEFINITELY send you that film soon mate 🥴🥴😁😁👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovieslol no probs matey . All good 😎👍
Thanks bud, I'm the world's worst for posting out at the moment mate 😵💫😵💫🤣🤣👍👍
Good to hear about Scars Of Dracula 4k John. Hopefully Studio Canal will release those hammer films again in 4k. Speaking of AI John Jaws 3 was the latest 4k that got the AI treatment. Hope you're doing well John.
It's really exciting news Mark 😊😊👌👌 I think Studio Canal will do amazing editions of their previous blu rays but as you know with rights issues they might not be able to, but I'm really hoping they still have them Mark 🤞🤞😁😁 yeah I've seen a few vids on Jaws 3 I think I will still pick it up down the line though mate 🤔😊👍👍
Many of us who collect Hammer are probably a little skeptical about buying these again in 4K. For reasons such as terrible cover art and many important titles not being given a standalone release on blu-ray in the UK! Will we ever see Captain Kronos, Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Frankenstein Created A Woman, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, Abominable Snowman coming to glorious 4K?
If a new purchase is to happen these releases must be included and in addition to having a fantastic image and extra features, they should come with beautiful sturdy slipcover and cover art. Perhaps attach a booklet, poster and lobby cards as well. A Limited numbered edition of the Hammer films will surely sell!
I'm waiting for She and Crescendo in HD.👍
Totally agree that the 4ks of Hammer need to be a really nice special edition, at least on initial run, can't just put the same art etc with a 4k disc in 🤯🤯 they are too important just to throw out! There's a big market for Hammer so they will sell well if done well 🤔🤩 yeah we definitely need to see UK releases of those films Abba 😁😁👍👍
@paulconway384 yeah me too Paul 🤞🤞 they are too good to be forgotten 😁😁👍👍
We want all the hammer ones I got the Island of terror with Peter cushing Silence of the Lambs and The Woman all on 4k
Yeah 100% George 😁😁👍👍 can't wait to pick up Island of Death George 🤩🤩👌👌 I'm a fan of Silence of the Lambs, but I don't think I'll pick it up as I don't rewatch it often mate 🤔😁👍
Hi John, Thank you for the shout out, I wonder if Kino just have the rights to the Studiocanal films and if so could we get them from them in the UK? It would be great if they get them all though, fingers crossed.
No problems Mark, and many thanks for getting in touch about this mate 🤩🤩👍👍 I'm really interested as to how this one plays out, like you say if Kino do the US and Studio Canal do the UK that would be amazing 😁😁👏👏
hi john thats great love all the old hamer films loved the end to brides of dracula the windmill i heard mr lee turmed dow the part as he hated the script love the 70s dracula in my teens good to see the flares and boots hope the two of you are ok steve
Cheers Steve, been waiting for news like this for quite a while now mate 🤩🤩👏👏 great ending to Brides, yeah Lee had loads of beef with the writing of Dracula 😵💫🤯🤩 I don't think it helped his cause as he never got a decent script for himself apart from Scars of Dracula 😵💫😵💫 yeah we are good mate, many thanks bud hope you are well too Steve 😁😁👍👍
This is very cool to hear. I have a soft spot for Scars of Dracula and enjoy it(Christopher Lee has such an unsettling presence)I don’t own the blu ray but I shall be celebrating by watching hammers Phantom of the Opera(I’ve never seen it) I hope I enjoy it.
It's brilliant isn't it mate 😁😁👍👍 it's Christopher Lee's best version of the Count after 1958s masterpiece 🤩🤩 Phantom of the Opera is a decent watch bud 🤔😁👍
Yes I just watched Phantom of the Opera a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. Herbert Lom is superb as the phantom. I haven’t watched all the Dracula films but I do agree that it is a great performance from Christopher Lee. In my opinion Christopher Lee’s preformance in Scars of Dracula is better than Prince of Darkness.
@TheCuriousIntellect5190 I enjoyed it the last time I watched it bud 🤩👍 hmm you've got a point there! Christopher Lee is much more of a presence in Scars..... and he speaks more 🤔🤣🤩👍
I am into Amicus style movies including 1966s the Vulture. It contains Amicus stars like Robert Hutton.
I don't think I'm familiar with that one Stuart 🤔 so it's from another company like Amicus Stuart? Intriguing 🤔😁👍
Nice collection of Dracula films there mate 👍💯
@andylikesstuffchannel thanks Andy, can't get enough of them buddy 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies yeah mate I haven't seen any for years tbh used to watch them all the time back in the day. Think Coppolas Dracula he climbs up the wall aswell 🤔👍
@andylikesstuffchannel ahh doesn't he.... I must admit I'm not a fan of that Dracula Andy 😵💫🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies it is a aquired taste tbh mate looks great but some of the Acting is questionable 🤯🤣
Yeah was stunned by the "accents" Andy 😵💫😵💫😵💫😁😁😁
It was about time
You're right there General 🤩🤩👍👍 there's a load of the old stuff... Universal Horror, Giallo, Video Nasties, Tigon etc have all made the jump to 4k so it's good to hear Hammer are now picking up the baton for blood drenched gothic Horror 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Just can't wait.
@general1362 me neither General, hoping the rough release date will be announced soon mate 🤞🤞🤩🤩
@@MondoChelloveckMovies ❤️👏
@general1362 🤩🤩👍👍
This is the one that had Dracula climbing down the wall.
I think its a really creepy thing to happen that this regal Count can also be literally feral 🤯🤯 wish it lasted longer Paul 🤩🤩👍👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies it was redone in the 1979 version, but it definitely started here.
@PaulChiesa-db5zn I'll have to rewatch the 79 one Paul 😁😁👍👍 love that scenario mate...really creeps me out 😱😁👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies I have the 79 version John excellent you would enjoy, but I think it was only available as a region 1 bluray, which is what I have.
@PaulChiesa-db5zn I saw it a while back on TV Paul, Yeah enjoyable take on Dracula 😁😁👍👍
Just had orca the killer whale 4k steelbook and pre order juggernaut eureka November and elvira 4k special edition arrow
Hey John. I never really properly got into Hamner, it was always something 'i meant to get to'. I will need to catch up.
What would you suggest as good ones? Ive seen Taste the Blood and Vampire Lovers.
Good vid mate! 🙏👍
Hi Dan I've got plenty of old Hammer videos on my channel mate where I talk about favourites etc 😁😁👍👍 I'll put them into a Hammer playlist for you soon bud 🤩🤩👍👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies I will do a search for them mate, from your channel. Don't go to trouble . Appreciate the offer 👍. Btw are you getting the new 4k Nightmare on Elm Street ?🙏
@Danthehorse thanks Dan, I'll definitely put all my Hammer in one place though 😁😁👍👍 they are quite old now those videos 🤩 I'm not picking up Elm St at this point Dan, even though I'm a fan of the film and franchise I think ill stop at blu ray at this point bud 🤔😁👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies the trailer for it looks like it's got a lot of DNR matey. OK bud, will be fun to look through those Hammer vids 👍 ps i found a couple more of yours for the Argento playlist. Will let you know which ones later. 🙂🙏
@Danthehorse nice one Dan, appreciate that bud 😁😁😁 the trailer for Scars of Dracula? The film itself doesn't appear to have any DNR mate 🤔🤩👍
I've bought 4K but I can't tell the difference from blu ray
I think it depends on the release 🤔 some 4ks are really close to the blu ray and some are big jump ups 🤔🤩👍👍
The Blu-Ray's stunning, John. This is just another lazy cash grab. Fed up with these re-releases.
I agree that the blu ray is really good with this one...I'm hoping there will be a ton of extras with this one at least Paul 🤞🤞😁😁👍👍
Can't believe they doing 4k of this there's loads better hammer films that would justify a 4k first
It's not the one I would have started with Clarence 😵💫 but I hope the floodgates are going to open after Scars 🤞🤞😁😁👍👍
Just noticed the cover of Dracula has risen from the grave, looks like Trump, but less orange and more blue....
Now that would be the ultimate Horror film David 🤯🤯🥶🥶😱😱🤣🤣👍👍
Why did Hammer replace Stephanie Beecham with Joanna Lumley in "The Satanic Rights of Dracula"?
Apparently her commitments were elsewhere so she couldn't make the film, big shame though!! I like Joanna Lumley but Stephanie Beecham was better in the role Rexel 😁😁👍👍
this one gets alot of flack by hammer fans but i think scars is the more enjoyable of the dracula sequels
It does mate, I'm not the biggest fan, but as I said in the video I'm going into it with fresh eyes as I never really got that it was a soft reboot until I watched these extras so I think ill enjoy it more next time 🤔🤞😁 I think with it coming after my favourite Dracula sequel that played a part 🤔👍👍 thanks for watching mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Bloody Good film that Scars of Dracula. Can't stand these Hammer snobs who take the piss out of it. 😂
I want to check it out... well all of them out again soon Simon 🤔😁👍👍
Dracula has risen from the grave is not even out on blu ray over here just dvd don't figure
I know it's a joke isn't it Brian 🤯🤯 hopefully that'll change if they release 4ks etc 🤞🤞😁😁
I hate my Dracula Collection. Looks like crap on the shelf 🤷♂️. Therein lies the problem.
BFI, Final Cut , Studio Canal, Warner Bros. Warner Bros, Studio Canal, Warner Bros, Warner Bros and…finally, Signal One.
What a mess on the shelf !!!
Yeah this is so true DB 😵💫😵💫🤣🤣 it's impossible to get them looking in anyway uniform mate...... unless you go the custom slip route 🤔🤔 now that might be a way out if the 4ks are all over the place as well 🥴🥴😁😁👍👍
It’s partly your fault, John. I see your organised shelves behind you and think, why don’t my shelves look like that ?
Then I remember… it’s because I have a Dracula Hammer collection 🤷♂️😂
@DBZ5371 🤣🤣 it's only because the Dracula collection is out of frame!! All the good looking stuff is behind me, I leave the ugly stuff for The Debs to look at 🤣🤣..... I don't mean me by the way 😵💫😵💫🤣🤣
Why have they picked that bloody awful movie?
I absolutely LOVE Hammer, but that is maybe the worst film they ever made.
The nadir.
To complete the Dracula series, yeah it's not the best Dracula film by far but I'm completing the set 👍👍
oh man I thought you were gonna talk about Oasis for the whole vid...🥱 but seriously, great insight as usual
@@OzzyMandias imagine that Ozzy 😱😱🤣🤣
