Brent Harris the problem is they sold low on that Tampa trade. Wait till the draft if Tampa doesn’t want to offer Anthony Cirelli. Had McDonagh been with Montreal during that series, maybe Montreal makes the Stanley cup final, but we will never know. McDonagh has also helped the Tampa Bay lightning beat pretty solid Habs rosters in the playoffs. It hurts Habs fans to see him be a difference maker against Montreal in the playoffs

@@michaelb4833 I even did the research for them. Montreal got a first (Pacioretty) and Josh Gorges for Rivet and fifth that happened to be Julien Demers (never played NHL). Sharks traded Rivet to Sabres after two ok seasons for 2 seconds (2009 : William Wrenn, never played. 2010 : Traded to Hurricanes for 5th round pick [Cody Ferrerio, never played] and Niclas Wallin [10 points in 97 games for SJ]. The pick was Mark Alt [18 NHL games, 0 points]. With the Sabres, RIvet was picked up in waivers by the Blue Jackets. Josh Gorges was a pillar in Montreal (wore the A) for a little more than 7 years as a defensive d (464 gp, 88 points, +35). Traded to Buffalo where he did not show up those numbers (-42 in 4 seasons) for a 2016 second round pick (Chad Krys, does not play in the NHL, and is not killing it in the AHL). That pick, along with another second round pick in 2016 went to the Blackhawks for Andrew Shaw. Ok, that other pick was Alex Debrincat. Shush But, Shaw was again traded by the Habs to the Hawks for a 2nd in 2020, a 3rd in 2021 and a 7th in 2021. Pacioretty put up 226 goals and 448 pts as a Hab (was the Captain) in 626 gp. He got traded to the VGK (106 pts in 137 gp) for Nick Suzuki (41 pts in 71 games as a ROOKIE), Tomas Tatar (119 in 148 points) AND a second round pick in 2019 (which got traded to the Kings for a 3rd and 5th round pick in 2019) The second round pick by the Kings was Samuel Fagemo (13 pts in 7 gp for team Sweden in the 2020 WHJC). Seems pretty good. 3rd pick for Habs was Mattias Norlinder. Played WHJC, no points in 7 games as a D. But highly ranked prospect. 5th round pick : Jacob Leguerrier. Good prospect. McDonagh is easily one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL today, something the Habs could really use right about now.. Stoked to have him in Tampa
So, bit of ECHL history for ya, Steve. The ECHL (formerly known as the East Coast Hockey League) formed in 1988 with these teams: Carolina Thunderbirds, Erie Panthers, Johnstown Chiefs, Knoxville Cherokees and Virginia Lancers. The expansion that brought Las Vegas into the league occurred in 2003, bringing 7 teams from the defunct West Coast Hockey League (or WCHL): the Anchorage/Alaska Aces, the Bakersfield Condors, the Fresno Falcons, the Idaho Steelheads, the Las Vegas Wranglers, the Long Beach Ice Dogs and the San Diego Gulls. So, at that point, the East Coast Hockey League adopted the ECHL moniker it has now. So, yes, it was weird to call it the East Coast Hockey League, given how far west the league expanded, and it seems that the league is moving back to the East Coast, given that, out of the 7 teams that were brought into the league in 2003, only 1 remains in their original city and the league: The Idaho Steelheads. Anchorage/Alaska relocated to Portland Maine in 2018-19, Fresno folded midway through the 2008-09 season, Las Vegas (ECHL home of noted Vegas Golden Knight Deryk Engelland, and Oilers coach Glen Gulutzan) officially folded in 2014-15, and Long Beach folded in 2006-07. San Diego folded in 2006, and went without minor pro hockey for about a decade. Bakersfield, my hometown and home city of my beloved Condors, were a consistent team in the ECHL from 2003 up to 2015, when they were moved to Norfolk, Virginia. However, the cities of Bakersfield, Stockton, San Diego and Ontario, as well as the San Francisco/San Jose area (home of the by then long-defunct San Francisco Bulls, AND San Jose Sharks, for that matter) wouldn’t be without minor pro hockey for much longer, as, in 2015, the Oilers, Flames, Ducks, Kings, and Sharks announced they were moving the Oklahoma City Barons, Abbotsford Heat, Norfolk Admirals, Manchester Monarchs, and Worcester Sharks to the cities in California listed above, retaining AHL membership, while moving the Condors, Stockton Thunder, and Ontario Reign to Norfolk, Adirondack, and Manchester, retaining the ECHL membership, essentially screwing the cities of Oklahoma City, Abbotsford, and Worcester out of teams, and demoting Norfolk and Manchester to the ECHL. I say this right after you brought up Las Vegas in the ECHL because, in 2020-21 (or whenever the next AHL season is), Las Vegas will join Bakersfield, Loveland (home of the Colorado Eagles, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) Ontario, San Diego, San Jose, Tucson, and perhaps Stockton (if they figure out their arena situation) in the AHL’s Pacific Division, having been relocated from San Antonio, Texas, only for the Vegas AHL team to move to nearby Henderson the next year. If you couldn’t tell, I was an ECHL fan that moved to the AHL with my Condors.
Speaking of the AHL, why can't Vancouver buy out its lease (with Robert Esche, former NHL backup goalie) and relocate the team to the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford? (It would make sense now that there is a true AHL Pacific Division, and right now, they're the only AHL team more than 1 time zone away from their parent club.)

you forgot one thing...that getting rid of gomez was to clear cap room for gaborik....obviously MTL didnt give up gaborik but they essentially bailed out the rangers so they could sign him..a HUGE part of this trade.
I appreciate how unbiased you were in this considering the rivalry. True professionalism... and so very much why I will watch Canadian commentators en français (even if I failed French class) over any American commentator. But... This is like our Rask trade. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.... (DANGIT!)
Oh Chris Higgins, tragically I will always remember that name. I lived in a Rangers household and that being so, my mother's last text message to me before she died of a stroke was something along the lines of "Higgins FINALLY scored". So for a few years I'd joke that Higgins killed my mother. He also scored the day of her funeral so I say he also put the final nail in the coffin.
Also, it should be noted that the Rangers only got the draft rights to Ryan McDonagh, who was still in college (coming off his sophomore season at UW-Madison). He didn't sign his ELC until the following season, when the Rangers also signed his college teammate Derek Stepan.
Imagine, at one point, Montreal could have had McDonaugh, Markov and Subban on their blueline. Toss Petry into that mix, and that is a really good blueline in front of Price. I don't blame them for making that deal - development is not guaranteed and Gomez was a top player in the NHL at that time. Hindsight is 20/20, but it was still a bad deal.
Fun fact: Scotty Gomez played for the western most ECHL team, the Alaska Aces. He played high school hockey at East Anchorage High School and is in the Alaska sports hall of fame.
a guy with a Mexicain name from Alaska that play hockey it's alot of odd thing! At least the guys was super classy ! I hate the hockey player he is because im a habs fans .. But this Scott is a really good dude!
weeks earlier the team was sold for half a billion. Koivu and Kovalev were at the end of the road and the team wanted to move on. during that 2010 playoff run, the new owners made millions. totally worth it for them.
I remember at the time, the goal in getting Gomez was to recreate a line that had had tremendous success in NJ, with Gomez, Gionta, and I can't remember the third player. The Habs settled for a replacement for that third guy, and got Mike Cammalleri. That all happened in the wake of a crushing sweep against the Bruins in the first round of... uh... I think it was 2009 playoffs, not sure. Anyways, this hinted at a rebuild, abd the Habs burned all the dead wood they could, and on paper it was gonna be an awesome trade for the Canadiens. Only, when Gomez tanked, he tanked HARD. He even became a meme in the wake of the supposed 2012 apocalypse, who was supposed to start with a very improbable event, which turned out to be Gomez scoring a goal. One of four only in the entire season. In that followed an aging Gionta who was traded to Buffalo, and Cammalleri with attitude issues just wasn't in the plans any longer. That trio lasted about 3 seasons if I remember correctly. The next offseason, Bergevin rolled in, and the first move he did was buy out Gomez' contract. Montreal chanted at Bergevin, he was heralded as a savior on that move alone. Yet it was too late, because Montreal was watching how McDonagh was evolving during that time, and yeah, in the Rangers' 2014 playoffs, they eliminated the Habs in 3rd round (eastern conference finals) with McDonagh hurting a lot.
Worst part of 2014 Eastern Conference is the guy that injured Price should have been with us .... But no in montreal we want some QUEBECOIS even if they suck so instead of selecting Kreider we went for the futur all-star L-P Leblanc .....
I remember when the Rangers signed Gomez and Drury for that matter, never wanted them to touch Gomez, cause it meant giving up Michael Nylander who had great chemistry with Jagr. Everyone I knew was pretty happy when we got rid of Gomez, even before we knew what McDonagh would turn into.
I understand that McDonagh went on to have a solid career in New York and now is doing good with Tampa, and I get Gomez went downhill after his first 2 seasons with the Habs, but that’s the risk of making these types of trades. When you’re trading a young player or a pick for an established veteran player in order to make a run at the cup or stay competitive (which they did and yes Halak was amazing that year, but as mentioned, Gomez had 14 points in 19 games which is solid production), you have to accept the fact that you think you might regret it later if that prospect turns out to be a great player. Put it this way, Gomez was averaging something like 65 pts per season, the Habs were not gonna resign an aging 35 year old Koivu and Plekanec was not 1st line material yet. They went on to trade for Gomez, who yes was definitely overpaid relative to that time, but was gonna replace what Koivu brought the Habs for 15 years. He scored 59 pts his first season, he had 47 assists. He was a good playmaker and the Habs went to the ECF. Montreal felt that trading a young defenseman prospect was a good move to make in order to get that 1st line center. They had prime Markov (30, and before his injury that limited him to only 65 games in 3 years) Gorges (25 and a solid defensive minded defender) and veteran Hamrlik (35). Sure it wouldve been nice to keep a 20 year old McDonagh, but if Habs don’t make that trade, they probably don’t make the ECF in 2010, it would definitely have gone a lot different, maybe McDonagh doesn’t grow The same way with the Habs. One thing you can’t predict is a player’s performance in the future because Gomez flat out fell off a cliff. If he scores 60 pts each year, then this trade isn’t talked about as much. That’s the hard part about analyzing a veteran for prospect/young player trade. A bad or terrible trade is the Habs trading a young progressing player (Ribeiro) for a washed up veteran (Ninnima???) now that’s a terrible trade lol
In 2009 the Montreal almost sent Carey Price, P.K. Subban, Max Pacioretty and a 1st to Tampa Bay for Vincent Lecavalier. The deal broke down because Lecavalier refused to be sent to Montreal. So the Goalmez trade wouldn't of been the worse trade that year for Montreal. Just imagine that.
Wait, what? There's no way thats true o_O I do remember talks of Lecavalier coming to MTL but had no idea that was for these guys and a 1st. Would have been up there with the Roy trade for the worst trade MTL ever made.
The $7M+ cap hit for Gomez seems like a lot of money and then you realize that the Rangers signed Chris Drury on the same day to roughly the same amount, so roughly $14M/year between two players to be your top two centers is a lot
An aspect of the Gomez acquisition you didn't mention was that he was used to attract highly sought after free agents, Mike Cammalleri and Brian Gionta. Scott Gomez by himself was a mediocre grab by Montreal, but I believe Cammalleri and especially Gionta would not have signed with them without Gomez on the team. While this is technically not part of the trade, it was the main reason this trade was a win for Montreal just as much as it was for NY.
interesting to note that the rangers got hajak, who the lightning got for deangelo, who then went to the rangers along witha 1st 7th overall for derek stepan, great rebuild so far
For the Habs: Gomez is also the reason why they signed Gionta as free agent. And to play with the reunited duo.. they signed Cammalleri to finalize the epic smurfs line. Has much as I dislike this trade as a Habs fan.. I think we need to add this on the habs added value...
At the time, I absolutely hated the deal -- Habs fan here. But as you mentioned, I got used to it because of the conference final. In retrospect, I have the same view I did initially :)
This trade is nefariously bad for Montreal, but I remember at the time, its something they needed to do... beyond Gomez, Habs were able to land Brian Gionta, a future captain and a player who had success with Gomez in New Jersey, and Mike Cammelleri who, in that playoff run, was an absolute beast. They were built to win that year, with Markov, Subban, Hamrlik, Spacek, and even Brisebois, Gill, and Bergeron on D. I'm not gonna say thats top notch D but its a solid mix of what you need and up front though they were small, they surprised a lot of people. Halak and Price as a backup in net.... honestly it wasnt the powerhouse superteam, but the run was special. If they could have at least been similar in the following two years, I would have considered it a decent trade. But Gomez fell off, the D got old fast, and the league dealt with their size up front. Not to mention Carey Price, as good as he is, didnt hit his stride for another few years. Unfortunatey this will always be the case for Montreal, always overpaying or overspending for talent that has reached its peak, as well as never figuring out how to draft well early, then not developing properly.
I always hated this trade as a Montreal fan but feel better after recapping how good they were the next couple years. If Montreal wanted Gomez they should have just signed him when he was a free agent and not given up anything
I still remember the 2011 Habs-Bruins series - it was as good as any SC Final. Carey Price did not see the shot from the point that beat him in OT. It was THAT close.
The real reason behind that trade is that Montreal wanted to sign Gionta and got Gomez to convince the former to accept their offer. Horrible trade long term wise, but if you consider the Habs got Gionta out of it, it makes it a little less painful.
Oli Jokinin missed the last shootout goal in the last game of season against the Flyers in 2010. The Rangers were eliminated from playoffs and the Flyers went all the way to the finals and lost to the Blackhawks. That one still hurts
Brody F ya it can for sure. We’ve had a lot of 1st rounders come and go and it’s not cause all of them were busts. It saddens me that certain players careers have been wrecked by our poor development
This is one of the worst trades in Montreal Canadien history. At the time, it was well-known the Rangers wanted to get rid of Gomez and there were almost no suitors at the time. Montreal overpaid by a lot for a guy with declining numbers. One part of this trade tree that's missing, which I get since it's technically not part of the trade, is that the Rangers used the money they saved trading Scott Gomez to acquire Marian Gaborik the next day at a 7.5M$ cap hit for 5 years. The Rangers got 114 goals, 115 assists for a total of 229 points in 255 games for Gaborik, as well as 13 points in 25 playoff games before they traded him to the Blue Jackets. Montreal got one good season out of Gomez, his production dropped off a cliff the next season, he played 38 games after that and the next one got bought out. Even when the trade was announced, it was baffling to many Montreal fans. Bad bad trade.
In one of your trade videos you mentioned how the LA Kings made some trades at the deadline to win the cup in the 2011/12 season. Can you make a video on those trades/that team and how they won? I remember them being an 8th overall seed if I’m correct!
Though McDonagh would go to NSH from TBL after winning 2 Cups and Miller is now in VAN, there's also Lundkvist in DAL, then Howden would be traded to VGK and won his Cup there.
McDonagh was a great two way Dman for us while we had him. By far best blue liner on the team during his tenure. We lost the Mac to Tampa trade so far since Namestnikov is gone and we dumped him for pennies. Howden is actually one of the worst players in the league right now, Hajek has an awful season. We can still win it since Lundkvist seems like he will be great, and Henriksson looks to be a potential 3rd line scoring center. He’s small but a great playmaker and plays with a lot of speed and tenacity. They’re all young players so anything can happen but 2/4 look like busts
Also, at the moment montreal had no good players and no free agents wanted to sign in montreal so the Gomez deal was also made to bring Gionta who was a good friend of Gromez , then Mike Cammalleri signs with the habs because we now have 2 good forwards to play with
You could say that because Montreal got Gomez, they were able to convince Brian Gionta and Mike Cammalleri , one became the captain and the other was the best scorer in the 2010 NHL playoffs . But I wont say Montreal should trade Mcdonagh... ugh
A point worthy of consideration is that Mtl also gave up Saku Koivu in that deal. Rumors aside (Cammalleri said he wouldn't sign as UFA unless Saku was replaced), the reality is that without this trade Koivu is resigned and stays a Hab to finish his career. It was a classless move ("Your services will no longer be needed"), it was a downgrade (following the trade, Koivu outperformed Gomez in every statistical category... including hits), and I'm glad that it blew up in the team's face. I no longer consider myself a Habs fan and that chain of events played a big part.
Much like with the Duchene trade, this one has yet to fully bloom. Just how well the Rangers do (did?) depends on how Lundvist and Henriksson pan-out. If they continue to develop as advertised, we should see the Rangers in another Cup final sooner rather than later.

Not really we traded him at the perfect time, he just got a massive contract and he’s been struggling with injuries. Nils will be really good and Henriksson should be ok. Right now we lost big time since Howden is useless and Hajek has an awful season
When NY went to the Stanley cup finals, they beat Montreal in the conference finals, largely with the help of Ryan McDonagh. Had McDonagh been with Montreal during that series, maybe Montreal makes the Stanley cup final, but we will never know. McDonagh has also helped the Tampa Bay lightning beat pretty solid Habs rosters in the playoffs. It hurts Habs fans to see him be a difference maker against Montreal in the playoffs
yes mcdonaugh was a great help but you cant say he helped win that series without including kreiders slide (not dirty) but still a huge reason at that time carey price was playing at the top of his game and lose your starter in game 1 is always a big hurt to any team
@@DaddyHabsJourney rangers would’ve won the series anyway.......
@@llllllll153 yeah thanks to chris kreider playing bowling against price
Tbh im more pissed at montreal gift wrapping sergachev to tampa than i am about mcdonagh. Having to watch scott gomez be paid the equivalent of 15 million over 1.5 seasons for a grand total of 1 goal and 9 assists tho... holymother of yikes
Maybe the difference could've been Carey Price
Ok. Now that you've destroyed my Habs fan ego, can you please do the Rivet trade.
I've requested it many times, they keep ignoring it.
Shush
But, Shaw was again traded by the Habs to the Hawks for a 2nd in 2020, a 3rd in 2021 and a 7th in 2021.
Pacioretty put up 226 goals and 448 pts as a Hab (was the Captain) in 626 gp. He got traded to the VGK (106 pts in 137 gp) for Nick Suzuki (41 pts in 71 games as a ROOKIE), Tomas Tatar (119 in 148 points) AND a second round pick in 2019 (which got traded to the Kings for a 3rd and 5th round pick in 2019)
The second round pick by the Kings was Samuel Fagemo (13 pts in 7 gp for team Sweden in the 2020 WHJC). Seems pretty good.
3rd pick for Habs was Mattias Norlinder. Played WHJC, no points in 7 games as a D. But highly ranked prospect.
5th round pick : Jacob Leguerrier. Good prospect. Double his total points in the OHL this year.
@@felixgagnon4807 I just tried to post an image link of the Rivet trade I made but when I logout and come see the comments on youtube, my message didn't show up in this reply thread. Maybe links get banned or something, no idea.
3:15 Then they ran in to the buzzsaw that was Danny Briere and the Flyers
Ryan McDonagh was the most underrated defenseman of the past decade in my opinion. Guy was an amazing two way player. Great leader as well
McDonagh is easily one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL today, something the Habs could really use right about now.. Stoked to have him in Tampa
I can’t wait for another summer of these! Still coming back for these golden videos :)
Adam Moreira no idea. I still want Vancouver to move the Comets to Idaho, to have a other older Condors rival. Lol
Im Montreal, I like to trade everyone cornerstone defenseman drafted in the first round

In my Opinion having JT Miller as a "add on" was a huge mistake they could of got some good assets trading him to another team
Its not that Vcr picks him up as a bad its Vcr undervaluing their 1st round pick and not demanding prospects as well outta Syracuse. Vcr had Tampa up against the Sal Cap rope and let them off.
Miller didn’t have as much value back then. He really blossomed with Tampa and now Vancouver
I'm still crying cause of this trade 😪😂
I love these trade trees. It's pretty cool seeing how one trade leads to so much.
That little rant about the ECHL was gold😂😂
So the Ryan McDonagh trade prevented the Rangers from making the 2010 playoffs? Jokinen....
worst shoot out attempt ever, friggin pylon
you forgot one thing...that getting rid of gomez was to clear cap room for gaborik....obviously MTL didnt give up gaborik but they essentially bailed out the rangers so they could sign him..a HUGE part of this trade.
2010, Michael Leighton was other worldly vs Montreal
4:33 I see what you did there
I appreciate how unbiased you were in this considering the rivalry. True professionalism... and so very much why I will watch Canadian commentators en français (even if I failed French class) over any American commentator.
But... This is like our Rask trade. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.... (DANGIT!)
My heart is always broke when i saw how good McDonagh is!!!
5:04 really Steve 😂
Oh Chris Higgins, tragically I will always remember that name. I lived in a Rangers household and that being so, my mother's last text message to me before she died of a stroke was something along the lines of "Higgins FINALLY scored". So for a few years I'd joke that Higgins killed my mother. He also scored the day of her funeral so I say he also put the final nail in the coffin.
That guy in Montreal was one of my favourite prospect we had nothing those year only flash player like him and Kostytin
I think the Rangers clearly made out..he also became the team captain and Gomez got old real quick.
Some might say he got lazy. Not the first and not the last to do so after getting a long and generous contract.
Namesnikov was a first line player that year, had close to 20 goals playing with stammer. Tampa pulled the exact same move with conacher and Ottawa
The Rangers were maybe the team that lost the most due to the pandemic. I think they might have done some damage.
Yeah but they got Lefreniere so they win
how did they lose... they got the 1st round pick lol this lottery is so dumb lol
Flyers were the hottest team going in, they definitely lost the most

Also, it should be noted that the Rangers only got the draft rights to Ryan McDonagh, who was still in college (coming off his sophomore season at UW-Madison). He didn't sign his ELC until the following season, when the Rangers also signed his college teammate Derek Stepan.
I was surprised this wasn’t noted in the video
Steve, I am a huge fan of you

"Gonna have a kid and name him ECHL"
Leo's nickname confirmed
Imagine, at one point, Montreal could have had McDonaugh, Markov and Subban on their blueline. Toss Petry into that mix, and that is a really good blueline in front of Price.
I don't blame them for making that deal - development is not guaranteed and Gomez was a top player in the NHL at that time. Hindsight is 20/20, but it was still a bad deal.
I've been trying to forget about this horrific trade . Thanks for the reminder :(
Does he know about the Alaska Aces in the ECHL?
Fun fact: Scotty Gomez played for the western most ECHL team, the Alaska Aces. He played high school hockey at East Anchorage High School and is in the Alaska sports hall of fame.
a guy with a Mexicain name from Alaska that play hockey it's alot of odd thing! At least the guys was super classy ! I hate the hockey player he is because im a habs fans .. But this Scott is a really good dude!
Tampa traded DeAngelo to draft Hajek and now both play for the Rangers lol
Wait til we see how nils looks 🤩
Who's here after the Bolts won the cup?
Also, the acquisition of Gomez is the reason Bryan Gionta came to Montreal, which brought Micheal Camalleri too
weeks earlier the team was sold for half a billion.
ECHL (Entire Country Hockey League)
Montreal is still cursed from when Roy left
The curse is broken! Roy and Tremblay buried the hatchet and the habs are in the finals lol
And we get McDonagh and win a cup!
Echl was a banger of a name choice
Leo is pretty good too though
Nice
Looking back on this the Canucks are all over it. Getting Miller in 2019 and Higgins and trusty prusty
A win-win trade. Next time please Jeff Carter to CBJ
At the time, I absolutely hated the deal -- Habs fan here. But as you mentioned, I got used to it because of the conference final. In retrospect, I have the same view I did initially :)
I vomited upon seeing the thumbnail. Sure Gomez was good for 2 years but after that it was not pretty
For perspective Gomez’s 14.63% of cap in 2009 is the equivalent of him getting $11.9M in 2020-21. Asinine amount of money.
Im glad Halak is playing for the Bruins, his play has been great!
Great video Steve!
It was THAT close.
steve: Im gonna name my kid ECHL
me: what kid and with who may i ask???
"Gonna have a kid and name it ECHL" ... is Steve turning into Elon Musk?
No, but he was foreshadowing
The real reason behind that trade is that Montreal wanted to sign Gionta and got Gomez to convince the former to accept their offer. Horrible trade long term wise, but if you consider the Habs got Gionta out of it, it makes it a little less painful.
I’m a glutton for punishment. As an Isles fan, I’m gonna suggest Bobby Lou to Florida leading to the Rat landing in Boston
Oli Jokinin missed the last shootout goal in the last game of season against the Flyers in 2010. The Rangers were eliminated from playoffs and the Flyers went all the way to the finals and lost to the Blackhawks. That one still hurts
Pls cheer us up and do the Craig Rivet Josh Gorges trade
I'm a Habs fan and I'm still hurting from this trade. I was doubting that trade even when Gomez was "good"

Gomez also helped Montreal to get Gionta/Cammalleri on free agency that year
McDonagh was a great two way Dman for us while we had him.
Habs fan here. Please stop hurting me like this
Also, at the moment montreal had no good players and no free agents wanted to sign in montreal so the Gomez deal was also made to bring Gionta who was a good friend of Gromez , then Mike Cammalleri signs with the habs because we now have 2 good forwards to play with
4:20 The NHL is the National Hockey League, that implies only one nation, it's never been only one nation
To be fair it wasn't just the halak party, it was also the pk subban party
As a mtl canadiens fan, i used to always trash this deal. Now, it kinda makes sense!
Much like with the Duchene trade, this one has yet to fully bloom. Just how well the Rangers do (did?) depends on how Lundvist and Henriksson pan-out. If they continue to develop as advertised, we should see the Rangers in another Cup final sooner rather than later.
That's 2x champ Ryan McDonagh to you
