Just discovered this, and I’m going to try this for Nanowrimo prep. Thanks for this series!

Will be keen to find out how you get on. I'm using Ironsworn Starforged to help me write a story too. I've tried a couple of pieces of really short fiction (just scenes really) and created a spoken-word video version for them. It's really fun so far.

I've been not quite playing solo rpgs for a couple of years. I haven't really figured out a good flow. I've always been good at notetaking, later discovered that this was ADHD. It's an interesting mind shift, play sessions as outlining. I would always go all out, use up all my dopamine, then burn out quick.

I think it just takes time. I take for granted how much I’ve learned by writing books now for decades. Make it more about having fun!

I do this too, but using a combination of Dnd and Call of Cthulhu. I would highly recommend the book The Solo Adventure's Toolbox by Paul Beeby, volumes 1 and 2, as well as the Tome of Adventure Design.

I've been eyeing the solo-investigator's handbook for CoC. I'll have to check out the ones you've mentioned. Thanks for checking out the series!

I've tried Mork Borg/Solitary Defilement to run a solo RPG, and it was great fun, but it also created a whole "story" that was completely unexpected due to the random nature of the dice rolls. I also use similar random dice rolls for creating music, and inspiration from RPGs. Mork Borg is especially great for creating horror and dark sword and sorcery concepts.

I’ve yet to try Mork Borg, but I hope to in the near future. Heard great things about it.

Dunno how or why but i'm glad the UA-cam algorithm FINALLY recommends something I've actually been reaching for! I'm new to (Solo) RPGs. I only got into them because I had an idea they could be a great writing tool. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks so! Still, jumping in solo is still daunting but your videos on this subject have been super helpful. THANK YOU!
Just curious, have you heard of the Adventure Crafter? Made by the same guy who had Mythic. I think you'd like it. If you happen to check it out, would love to see how you use it.
Thanks again and wish you the best in your creative endeavors

Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm glad this is helpful.
I have seen the Adventure Crafter. It looks pretty cool. For writing purposes, I felt like it wasn't super helpful for me. I mainly work off of my understanding of story structure to make things work, but it is a cool tool.

Oh man, this looks so cool. I have no idea where to start when it comes to writing a story, so this looks like it’ll be fun to watch! Good luck to you and your characters!

I really hope this will help you get going! I’ve been writing a long time but this process has really been a game changer for me. Pun intended. Lol

Super excited for this series! I use a solo RPG system called Notorious. It’s basically Star Wars. It’s also rules-light.

Haven't heard of that one! I'll have to check it out. I picked up Scum and Villainy recently to get my sci-fi kick.

I'm very excited to see where this goes! I've done this before and it's extremely helful and fun. Lately I don't try to figure out every single detail of my story beforehand, I just say "I'll ask Mythic when we get there."
Also, I haven't watched the other videos yet, but have you seen The Adventure Crafter by the same author of Mythic? It's great for creating outlines.
Also also, "outlining by pantsing" is a great way to frame the process.

Yes! It is a lot of fun. I look forward to trying this process on my next book starting from scratch.
I have seen the Adventure Crafter. I gave it a preview. Very cool tool but not sure how effective it would be for me. But it does like a very cool tool.

This is great. I had a very similar experience. I just started writing cause i want to draw it. I have been trying to learn story structure and outlining but it has really taken out the joy of discovery and pantsing. i've been trying to figure out how i could use rpg to make stories. then i found you so thxs. this topic hasn't been explored.

I think if you know how structure works you can use that to understand how to move the story along through the solo RPG elements. So, if I know I am coming into, say, the midpoint, I will structure the scene I am RP'ing to work in that way. That way, I know I am moving through structure, but I am surprised by the directions it goes.

Late to the party, but I've only just a few months ago started toying around with solo rpgs. Very curious to see how you do this.
