I like that he actually reviews movies now, more than just insults them. He looks at the flaws in beloved movies and he finds the charm in bad movies. And even ones he doesn't like at all, he at least tries to explore WHY other people like them, something many YT critics don't do, they just review things negatively in an over the top way. Admittedly, Doug was kind of a big pioneer of that but he seems to have moved on from that mindset and I hope people start to appreciate him more for it.

I think a problem I've personally noticed in his attempts to deliver actual reviews is that a.) he still tends to present himself as a legit film critic people should listen to in quite a lot of areas, but also b.) sometimes he tends to miss crucial details in his movies that result in him making poor notes or (something I've noticed) fabricate certain things to get his personal point across.

However, if you looked up the actual article, you’ll see that it was released months before the movie came out and was in response to a 30 second preview clip of a song and the actual criticisms being more towards the tempo of the song, not the actual singing.

That is what I like about modern Nostalgia Critic: that his takes, wheither good or bad ones, come from a place of genuineness; they're his honest opinions. Even if he dislikes a movie I love or loves a movie I dislike, I know, it's genuine, you can tell what passion he has for the medium in general and that is something I can highly respect. And even more so for him learning from his past mistakes and improving. @howdoyoudo5949 5 місяців тому +1

@@craig2196On the The Wall Review, off the top of my head:
-It was poorly researched. ,Many, many videos point out when NC made cracks at whiny songs those songs were about Roger Water's feelings about WW2. There's a part where he says "WW2 reference" when Rogers sings "When the Tigers Broke Free"
-He tried to make his review into this horrible half-review/half-parody. He parodies the song, but he doesn't understand the lyrics nor does he bring it back into the review. Like "Another Brick In The Wall" he boiled it down to "Roger Water's complains about school." then sings about it. One, what did that have to do with the movie? Two, he was trying to compare the horrors of Thacher schools in the 50's-60's to American schools in the 90's-2000's
-Doug could not sing for the life of him, the instrumentals couldn't carry his vocals.
-He misses many easy to grasp symbols portrayed in the movie. When Fennah's animation came up, i don't know if Doug wrote the lyrics or if Fennah did, but they act as though the monsters were half-cooked. Not realizing those monsters were representations of the characters in the movie.
-His "In the Flesh" parody was right after Change the Channel. While I don't acknowledge Change the Channel's stupidity (The Walkers were incompetent in some areas but the former Channel Awesome members blow stuff out of proportion) , having it done so soon after makes it feel a bit icky.
-Many fans of Doug went onto other videos and pests of themselves saying "THE REVIEW WAS A GIANT JOKE" those soon died out after Folding Idea's video came out.
I consider authentic as in "He both true and can convey it to other people." Like the difference between outright saying "I love you" and being very coy with your words.

One thing I've always respected about Doug is that he isn't afraid to poke fun at himself. A lot of the time when someone faces scrutiny or criticism torwards them or their work, they get defensive or hostile towards the people criticizing them, even when it's clear that said criticism isn't done with bad intentions (Linkara is a pretty good example on how childish someone can act when they face any type of criticism)
But with Doug not only is he not afraid to admit when he's in the wrong about something, but he isn't afraid to make jokes at his expense, and it doesn't come across as spiteful or butt hurt at all. One of my favourite examples when in one of his reviews (can't remember which one) he shows a bunch of characters that are considered to be annoying, and one of them is himself

From what I can tell, one of the reasons there's less skits in NC videos lately is because the studio they usually film in keeps falling apart, so it's just easier on the budget and the actors in the long run if they instead do less skits, and more couch reviews.
That being said, one thing I've found has gotten much better regarding NC videos as a whole, especially after cancelling, and then bringing back the series, is that they dropped the gimmick of the critic hating every movie he watches, and instead has a healthy balance of watching movies that are enjoyable, as well as movies that aren't bad, but simply failed to wow audiences. Hearing opinions outside of "This movie stinks" has definitely helped keep the show more interesting, as you tend to get more genuine criticism rather than hating something for the lols. Not to mention the jokes they can tell about genuinely enjoyable parts of movies.

Nostalgia Critic has evolved a lot. It just hasn’t been a bunch of radical changes. He used to scream in front of a white wall cut between trailer shots from the movie he’s reviewing. Now he actually talks about everything with nuance and does the skits to have a comedic narrative in his reviews. The skits are not meant to be on par with a Tarantino movie. There’s a simple and silly charm to them. It’s just a way for him to do his own comedic writing. And while it may not be amazing quality, Doug at least has nailed his character. May favorite part of the document is when linkara complained that Doug would not let him use HIS studio for linkara’s film.

Doug isn't a bad guy, and I don't blame him for the mismanagement of CA or the scandals (which were mostly on Mike Michaud). That being said, he was a TERRIBLE director and writer. I'm glad to see that he's matured and is doing a bit better.

As someone who was a big fan of Linkara, it honestly made me think less of him when I say that clip of his stream where he talks down about Oney Plays. Chris has been really open about guys like Doug, Lewis, and James being people he unironically enjoys the content of.
Conversely, Doug's reaction actually made me start respecting him a bit more when it comes to his Nostalgia Critic stuff. He knows it's a joke, and he's willing to laugh at himself as much as others.

Im still a fan of doug, I'm not defending any of what happened on the document but im not going to blindly regurgitate hate when you see doug is clearly a better person, and I'd say oneyplays helped in a weird way. Their jokes were really funny and it was a way for him to look at much of an ego he had. And he changed for the better.

As a long time watcher of NC I hate the amount of hate that the show started getting, but I also agree with the quality aspect of most people’s complaints. I think that if they got some better quality equipment the show could be revived

I maintain that Doug Walker is a good critic... when he actually has substantial opinions on what he reviews.

And in a time where critics are becoming more hated because of how their reviews are so different compared to the public, Doug, who seems to be the most hated critic ever lived, seems to be one of the more trustworthy one.

The Walkers are the most based people to walk this Earth, entertaining people for thousands and thousands of years, an ancient tribe they are. Why do you think they are called Walkers

I liked the last bit of the wall, with the Fennah collaboration. But I agree it was a bad review.
That being said, credit to Doug for not taking it down or hiding it! He's taking the criticism in stride!

I always felt that Doug got too much of the heat from Change the Channel. Reading through the docs it was clear that most of the abuse was stemming from three dudes: Mike Michaud, Rob Walker, and Mike Ellis. Did Doug play a role by not sticking his neck out for people who trusted him? Yes, and that will always be a mark against him.
But if anything I’d say he’s less of a meanie and more of a weenie. Ain’t a terrible person, just someone who could have done more but was afraid on stepping on people’s shoes.
I’d say it’s time to welcome back ol’ Douggy.

Don't know why so many people ever hated on Doug in the first place. He's always been chill.
    Nostalgia Critic is a character.
    Its all for fun.
Some people on the internet can take things so seriously and pat themselves on the ass for feeling so falsely superior.
