I know that “Would?” is generally accepted as their best song. I would put “Bleed the Freak” right up there. This song just screams Alice In Chains.

Goddammit, Mike...I remember talking to him at the methadone clinic, and he said that he couldn't remember how to play Chains' songs anymore. We both cried. I hope you've found peace, brother. I'll love and miss you forever.

Justin Friedeck Idk what the first part of your comment means. But if God exists, I hope Layne and Mike are with him.
Im selfish, though, and I want them here with me still. Layne and Mike were very good friends of mine, and it took many years before I could listen to Chains again after Layne passed.
I just hope they've found peace wherever they are. They were both such beautiful humans and didn't deserve to die as they did. But they live on in the hearts and souls of so many, and their music will forever bring joy to the world...so it's not ALL bad.

I pray things are going well for you, and I'd love to hear more about your friendships with Layne and Mike.

The real shame of it is his choice to engage in the drugs that ultimately lead to his death. He’s not some “tragic hero” as many people like to paint him. He’s an incredibly talented individual who died way before he should have because he made a series of very destruction choices.

He was hands down one of the most relatable of all time!?! I can't think of another singer of the top of my head who puts as much emotion and heart in every song as Layne did, even put everything in the last couple of songs he recorded when he literally was far gone that he couldn't even stand up by himself from illness caused the drug use running his immune system and that is a fact not my opinion either!?! (last part)

Yeah, Vada, even if he himself wouldn't agree with it, I think he way overcame Ozzy. Good to know we are only (almost) 30, so too young when the big revolt happened, but still grunge at heart. In times of Rihanna I long for that raw sound to make everything else look silly again.

That place, The Central Tavern in Pioneer Square has a lot of meaning to the band and others who saw them thee at that time. cheers.

@@joejones9520 the vocals may be the only thing they have in common musically speaking. The style was made up by sub pop marketing to draw ppl to Seattle bands. The term grunge was new so ppl lumped it all as one style. There can't be any new grunge bands. Any new grunge band is post grunge since it wasn't one or two styles. Most all other genres have more in common musically. Grunge bands did whatever they wanted and none sounded the same.
