Thats what the game tells you. But, as the reviewer said, you shouldn't trust the game. It has been tested and permadeath is not a feature in this game. The game confuses you, for you to experience what Senua experiences. It's part of the concept. Anyhow, the combat is really forgiving

Such an amazing game. The lack of HUD adds to the immersion. I literally sat with my friend and played it non stop for hours. I absolutely love this game and it goes to show that sometimes simpler mechanics and fabulous story telling go a long way.
Melina Jeurgens deserves an academy award for her portrayal of Senua. The most amazingly genuine portrayal of a video game character ever.

when you parry an enemy attack and do heavy attack, the chilling sound senua makes is so fking badass. Combat is not a foucs but man it surely leaves you demanding more. It is that good.
Agreed. Simple combat mechanics is not necessarily a bad thing. Some of the smaller battles get a bit gratuitous, but the soundtracks they use in the major combat sequences, the raw emotion of Senua, along with the voices simultaneously urging and stressing you out made for a truly intense experience.
I went from only finding out about this game yesterday to being very interested. how did i not even know about this title til now. i hope people support this title so the dev and other devs are inspired to do more like it. actually charging a fair price for a game they acknowledge is not too long and yet still delivering a high quality experience. i love it

First time in 3 decades of gaming, that pixels on screen convinced me, they are a real person. So empathy and connection to main character was so strong i felt incredible emotional relief on the end. Special game, for special people, which have thinker in their head and warrior in their heart.

I don't think they needed any more time than what they used. It was enough for me to get a pretty good understanding of the game, or at least that's what I think.
Will you do a review of this? And how it compares to something like Zeno Clash?

This game is important. What Ninja theory has done here transend's gaming. As a person that has intimate knowledge of mental issues, not in hearing voices, but in other areas of self doubt, and as a friend of a girl that had a dark voice following her on her right side since the age of five up until present day, when a crying child portait by Giovanni Bragolin.
I can tell you that Ninja Theory has done something incredible here, It's grotesque and beautiful, and most of something real with real meaning behind it all. This is a full fledge game, that they've set at this price point, because they want this to be be experienced... It is a great feat and it is truthfully a great shame that this game will not receive game of the year at this year's gaming awards. Because it is truly a great and masterful thing they've accomplished here.And they deserve great praise for what they've done here. I have a new found respect for what Ninja Theory has done here. And I implore EVERYONE that reads this post to play this game.
If you get thru it, you will never forget it, and you'll be glad that you did.
And thank's again to Ninja Theory... Bravo. This is a rare gem in gaming history, and even though it might be overlooked somewhat... I just haf to tip my hat to them. Truly something special

This is a game. This is a passionate project. About 10 people made this game, pushing the boundaries with what limited resources they had. To create an indie game with AAA polish and story telling. I am absorbed into the game and storytelling. I am impressed. It has now made it into my TOP 10 games on PS4 this year. An indie game....

this game is awesome! really cool combat, even it has no depth. and a cool story, brilliant atmosphere and dope acting as senua. not every game needs 500 weapons, openworld and 8000 items to pick up. in these day where even mgs gonna be a ubi soft game, i can just say thank you to the ninjas for this game. dope game.

Absolutely brilliant experience. Smooth combat with some great music. A few random crashes nothing that playing around with the setting doesn't solve. Ninja Theory is going strong.

I don't have enough words to express how much i love this game. Even though I've only just watched videos, I'm already attached to it.
My sister suffered from psychosis(I didn't even know what it was then) and she always told me this. I kinda brushed it off thinking she was just using too much internet and finding some funny words.(she had the habit of searching every minor health issue and made it seem huge).
But now I do believe it. She kept saying she could hear voices, some really scary, some vengeful. This game made me believe that. My sister only needed someone by her side, someone to believe what she was going through. I feel so sorry and I don't even know how to bring this up and talk about it. I just want to say I'm so so sorry.

Have this through Steam and have partly played through. It is quite unnerving all the voices, some cheering you on, others tearing you down. Definitely worth it.
This game is absolutely amazing......
So simple yet complex as well. Beautiful game. I haven't had too many games give me chills while playing. Used your headset or headphones while playing this. The voices sound like they are in your head. While the puzzle aspect can take awhile or boring to some, I found it actually enjoyable for making my mind work and question what I'm doing in the game. I just finished the first two bosses and died couple times in game so far. Even if I get completely killed I don't even care because I'm going to replay it again immediately and in years from now during those bored times between main games that I play. That saying, I don't think this is an everyone type of game. I connected to it quick because I know how crazy your mind can be and it just meshed perfectly for what I enjoy in a game. I also loved Witcher 3 and mass effect and dragon age as big rpg games and fifa and shooters like rainbow 6. I think we should just enjoy the games that people make. Even though all are not perfect. It is pretty amazing what they are and how people express creativity in games. Hopefully they put more out like this one though.

@@Derbster1981 well it looks very nice on the switch. Apparently, although the graphics is nice, the game isn't that demanding on hardware (like for instance Witcher 3) as there aren't a lot of elements for the CPU and GPU to compute.

Any body have a problem with a glitch? I tried to solve a three image puzzle to progress. To light a fire stone to run up the hill but the puzzle door is not there after completing the puzzle and I can't go further??

Really happy Ninja Theory achieved what they wanted, years of watching those dev diaries definitely displayed their passion. Let's just hope this game is commercially successful.

6hr playthrough? Dang, it took me about 14 hrs, but I was taking my time, soaking it all in. This game was great, in my opinion 9/10.
It's not a Whitcher 3, but more of a Shadow of the colossus. Lots of time traveling the beautiful environments with only the voices in your head, lots of unique puzzle solving and pretty epic boss battles. I loved the combat, was simple and intuitive and frankly pretty easy but everything from the sound to the animations were done so well that every fight felt like a fight for your life and left your adrenaline pumping. Hell of a buy at $30 still in 2019.
hope they just confirm hellblade 2 at the end when senua said 'come with me my friend, we have another story to tell'

This game is definitely an experience. Everyone should play it as it is a real eye opener into what games should be more like these days.
Definitely agree! This game is an emotional roller coaster! The developers made it very clear that this journey is an immersive story - an adventure where we see life as Senua. The experience is eerie and harrowing at times and always emotionally tense. If you want a fight-fight-fight game then this isn't for you (the developers were also very up front with that). The time, energy, and commitment to getting an emotional story about a woman with mental health issues right needs to be commended. I for one am loving the experience. Thanks for a great review!

It's not as bad as it sounds, as long as you're not actively bad at fighting you'll never die anywhere near enough to worry about it.
the review does warn that one must not trust everything this game seems to be, one of those things is the permadeath mechanic, IF YOU MUST KNOW i can spoil it for you, but understand that nothing has a simple answer in this game.

If you want other games that do that, check out Nier and Nier:Automata.

How many hours can we expect out of this game just playing through the story or trophy hunting?
saw the gamespot review, and gotta admit I was very impressed with sounds and picture quality, and not sure if its was PC or PS4 or PS4 pro there was based, but that graphic & atmosphere was very impressiv and some of the best i have seen in a long time.. but also supprised how better the graphic looked compared to this review, though it can be down to many things and not least the way it is edited and how its captured o YT humped encode.(anyway I havent played the game, my laptop likely cant handle it, Mi air13 but at first glance kudos to the creator from an mature and bold gaming approach and god damn it looked good that level of graphic quality)

If you can't relate to at least SOMETHING in Hellblade..then you really don't understand the depths of human suffering and have never truly experienced loss..I'm sorry, this game is phenomenal and I knew I wouldn't be disappointed when I bought it. Just because it's not your typical COD or OverWatch you wanna crap all over it..Get over it! It's story driven. I would not be surprised if this wins some type of award. I applaud Ninja Theory for going outside of the scope..they are my top developers now..👏👊

It's not my intention to start any trouble, but why aren't xbox picking up games like this? After 9 years of gaming on xbox I sold my xbox one last year and what have I missed? Gears 4, Dead Rising 4 and Halo Wars 2. So in short... nothing. While Sony and Nintendo continue to pick up/develop niche and interesting games, xbox play it 'safe'. If you love videogames why would you game solely on xbox? It's a baron wasteland of garbage. The xbox games I mentioned aren't even selling, so wtf are you playing?

I died more times than I can count on this game and I did NOT lose my data. Someone did a video on this explaining that they think that Ninja Theory intended on it being a mind game for players. I never lost my data. The rot did go up my arm, reached my shoulder and then once I died again, it just returned to my hand and lower forearm. It just starts over. The rot that is. NOT your game. Everyone is spreading this rumor around but it's just not true. Definitely makes combat incredibly more stressful believing that rumor.
