  • Once upon a time a 2.75lb test curve carp rod was considered a beefy tool! Over the years, however, advancements in rod technology have seen anglers use increasingly stronger test curve rods for their carp fishing.
    So it was only a matter of time before someone raised the bar again and developed a 4lb test curve carp fishing rod. And tackle giants Daiwa have done exactly that!
    But does a rod with so much casting power still retain those all-important fish playing qualities?
    Mark Sawyer heads to Naseby Reservoir to find out.

    When you see angles using 3 1/2 test rods on 2-3 acre lakes as is the norm for many nowadays you know something has gone wrong .

      Using heavy leads on small lakes is all about getting a good hook hold with weary pressured fish

      @maxoneson9616 Рік тому

      Need the power in the rod to handle the heavy leads especially if using PVA bags

    Interesting video and interesting rod. When I started Carp fishing in 1989 I used 2 Silstar 1.5lb test curve 11 ft rods. I used 1.75oz running Zipp leads, a rubber bead, and 12lb dacron hooklength. Using 10lb mainline meant we could cast a fair distance. I always managed to get my bait where I wanted it. But we weren't using PVA bags then. Those old rods coped with anything I hooked. Test curve isn't everything, plus I would never advise a young angler to play a fish the way you are playing that Carp. Rod up, encourage the fish to come up in the water to avoid snags and gravel bars etc.

    Bring on the 5lb tc I say! Haul’em out and kick’em back in! All the best kit is the most modern and expensive! All you old boys banging on about light rods and doing over nighters on camp beds and under golf brollys fishing on lakes with low stocks can do one. Thank god those days are long gone.

    Recovery on it looks mega. Anyone who says there is no need for a 4lb tc rod isn’t fishing the waters where it’s needed. Pretty sure there are plenty of 4lb tc rods on the market but their just marked up as recommended casting weight rather than tc. Undertows on huge windswept pits will shift a 4.5 Oz lead no trouble and sometimes you need a tool to get a 5-6 oz lead where you need it.

    They will obviously sell because they do have a use and will appeal to those who have to have the rods and reels that are the "in" thing!
    The biggest issue - and I've seen it time and time again - is people who have little or no idea how to balance a set up to get the best out of it.
    There are not too many who actually need and know how to use such a rod, but I have no doubt they'll turn up on our local waters where you don't need to cast more than 50 yards and where a 100 yard cast will land your rig on the opposite bank!🤣

    Unfortunately very little is new in fishing these days. I believe it was Sonik who produced a 12' 4lb rod around 5-6 years ago as my friend bought a couple to use for catfish. I started with 1 3/4 lb 11' carp rods then moved up to a pair of 12' 2 3/4lb rods. Nowadays I use 3lb 12' rods for most of my UK fishing and the 13' 3 3/4lb rods for France where I am often fishing at very long range. I think someone, it may be Daiwa, produce a 4 1/4lb rod for carp fishing. Where will it end?

    I really don't think a 4tc rod is needed for carp. You are getting more into catfish territory with that rod. A key thing in fishing is the bend of the rod and feeling the carp. Carp fishing over the past couple of years is just all going wrong unfortunately.

    Nothing really new I used to use 5 lb test curve chub OutKast spod rod for long distance fishing large PVA I could get 30 rod wraps with 7oz plus PVA bags. Fishing closing in snag fishing etc one rod covered everything also had a couple to spod and use as a marker rod. It is how you play your fish and have your clutch set

    What we using next for course fishing?? 100lb line maybe ??? There's no fun in this kinda a fishing. The fish have no chance, I d rather use a undergunned rod and line and play fish properly

    If they brought out a 5 grand pva bag and 10ounce lead cannon that you loaded up with gunpowder to launch your gear 300m, all they'd have to do is bung the right couple of 'celebs' and you'd all be falling over each other to buy one. Lol.
    They'd be able to sell you a reel too, and a special cannon mix. All while the real big fish are swimming around your feet.
