    The old methods are the best, Hell will freeze over before I purchase a Pole, Lot of money for a lot of equipment that I don't need.I fish just as good using a 13 ft Drennan and a 12ft Shakespeare rod

      I never bought a pole either, could never afford a decent one, so like yourself I do all my floating with a rod and line and a whip for small silvers at close range. I absolutely love catching tench and bream on a waggler in the canals here in Ireland

    I use a Korum Allrounder 11ft 1.25tc for all my float fishing for big carp, tench etc... with 8lb line. I think a 1.25tc rod is the most versatile rod you can get, covers all aspects of fishing.

    For anyone who would like a more detailed review of the rod. The blank is unique, fantastic even with regards to the fast progressive action and rigidity high up. Certainly it will (or would) cast weighty feeder or baggin type floats further than anything else out there. It will also deal with very large carp, 20lb fish; no problem. Anyone fishing at range on venues like drayton should have a serious look, as should the gravel pit tench angler with a penchant for catching big tench at range using float tactics; or indeed anyone looking to cast huge sliding floats. Note: this is perhaps the ONLY float rod out there that is genuinely suited to 8lb mainline (and It compares favourably in terms of playing power with ANY pellet waggler rod except that this has a better casting action). It is heavy in the hand and for that reason I doubt anyone would ever choose to use it for trotting of any description. Bearing this in mind and reminding you of the rods brilliant casting attributes, its a shame that some halfwit in product design has decided to place a tiny butt ring just a short distance in front of the reel seat. Of course when you put a robust 8lb line through the rod it invariably wraps around the butt ring. Its not difficult or expensive to remove the 2nd ring up and move the butt ring up several inches to irradiate this issue and if you value the attributes that I've described it is worth going to the expense/trouble. Its just a shame that no one at shakespeare had the foresight to identify the unique characteristics of the blank and ring it appropriately. Oh and the butt could have done with a removable butt cap to make it easier to shove some lead up there to create a better balance.

      True, but it's so bloody heavy, really top-heavy. Anyone would struggle to hold it for very long, if it was just that bit lighter, or really better weighted and more balanced. It feels very top-heavy. I agree a 1.25 is ideal I prefer a 12 however..

    18ft/20ft 4 piece bolo rods back in the late 90's - early 2000's was the most popular method at Gold Valley. Sure mine still in a tube in the spare room !!

    Would be great fun using that method with a centre pin reel.

      I use a 1930's split cane rod, described as a roach rod, with a 1940's Allcocks centerpin reel and fish the margins, good fun when they zip off like a torpedo, you dont need super equipment, just learn to work with what you have, fishing tackle is designed to catch fishermen first.

    Had carp in margin, couldn't buy a bite on the pole. Dropped a small method in & the rod was getting dragged off the rests!!

    May I ask what the split shot is for near the top ring please?

    • @garylawlor2288
      @garylawlor2288 Місяць тому +1

      I assume it is just used as a stopper to keep a fixed distance between the rod tip and the float

      @@garylawlor2288 Thanks, I'd just worry it could damage the top ring if you forget its there. Maybe one of those large tungsten beads would be better?

    Why do you have the bb shot tight to the tip ring

    • @mattc2431
      @mattc2431 Рік тому +1

      its to hold the line straight from the reel to the tip of the rod so the float has less sway
