- Solo day hiking to Chush Falls in central Oregon, specifically in the Deschutes National Forest and Three Sisters Wilderness. It’s an easy-moderate out-and-back hike that is approximately 5 miles in distance, and ~500 feet of elevation gain. The hike itself roams through some burn scars from somewhat recent wildfires. So be prepared for minimal shade! Eventually the hike meanders through the forest, until you ultimately reach Chush Falls. The last 0.1 miles or so are a very steep grade down to the falls itself, so take your time. Hiking poles are recommended specifically for this. Chush Falls is approximately 68 ft tall, and is an extremely impressive falls. If you choose to do so, you can hike beyond Chush Falls to two additional distinct falls, The Cascades, and Upper Chush Falls. This option would only add an additional ~1 mile total (round trip) to your overall hike. Be aware a free, self-issue Wilderness Permit which is available at the trailhead is required between June 15 and October 15. There is a small parking area at the trailhead.
