  • Christian and I tackled North Sister at the end of September, after some early season snow. This mountain proved to be very challenging, and lived up to its reputation for being extremely loose and dangerous. It didn't help that we got off route and went the wrong way in the Bowling Alley, but never the less, after a 16+ hour day, which included an emergency rappel, and and impromptu belay, we summited and made it safely back to the car. This mountain was comparable to Jefferson in difficulty, and not one to be taken lightly! Enjoy the video!

    Never Again! Your comment at the end of the video was telling. Your endurance and composure while rock climbing loose rock was amazing. I would go up South Sister 10 times before I would go up North Sister!

      @@danieldbattin thanks! Yes, this mountain is not a walk in the park by any means!

    Great video! That video had me in situations I’d rather not be in. Gnarly off routes well captured on video!
    Must have been a great relief to be back in the car

    What a mother of a peak. So easy to get off route; you were ready for it.

    Years ago I attempted North Sister via the west approach out of Obsidian falls, we didn’t summit but it was a great outing.

    You guys did so well on that. You negotiated the off route/route finding well considering everything, and definitely did it in good style. And both of you are tough as nails. Thanks for the video!

    I notice you choose to scramble on loose volcanic rocks -- including when one is scrambling above the other -- with your helmets on your packs, not on your heads. Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing.

    Great video. I attempted last year via the SE ridge like you guys did and just that ridge kick my butt Haha. Went the SW ridge this year and it was also tough. Nice job to you both. Always making it look easy!

      Eventually I will do the full 3 sisters traverse, I'm thinking late spring, so id climb in the ice and snow. Probably easier in some ways.

      I'm not going to lie, this mountain is no joke. I got gripped on this one more then most, but mainly due to getting off route on the rotten rock. Fall is tricky cause the mountain can change quickly with the potential of fresh snow. My advice would be to be as prepared as you can for rock or snow, but also know your limits. Good luck, I hope it goes for you!!

      @@MountainMontage appreciate the positive thoughts. i do have my guru going with me who has summited it multiple times so at least the route finding wont be an issue. i think more than anything your video better shows how steep shit is and how thin those ridges are more than others.

    Wow, absolutely phenomenal. Congratulations on the summit and safe return. What would you consider more difficult, Mount Jefferson or North Sister?

    • @MountainMontage
      @MountainMontage  2 роки тому +2

      That's a good question, and I've been thinking about that a lot! They are both very difficult, in some ways similar (lots of sketchy loose rock) but other ways different. Jefferson is a longer climb with more elevation gain, it requires a steep ice / snow traverse pretty much year round, which means extra gear, and that traverse is no joke. Both mountains have difficult route finding, and supposedly have a 4th class option to the top, but on both, I ended up on 5th class terrain. On paper I'd say that Jefferson is harder, my personal experiences with the mountains, N Sister was harder for me, primarily because of getting off route and also doing it as a single day push, coupled with the conditions we did it in. It all added up to a less enjoyable climb then Jeff.

      @@MountainMontage I respect your achievements, I am an amateur mountaineer and have bagged South Sister -- which is just a walk up -- along with Thielsen and Broken Top. I have been wanting to do Hood. What kind of training would you recommend for it? I have seen you climb Hood by many a route, I will be attempting the standard South side route in the spring. I look forward to your reply.

    • @MountainMontage
      @MountainMontage  2 роки тому +2

      @@brayanwood2104 Nice! Hood is a great mountain, and relatively easy for a technical climb, but it does come with a whole new set of challenges and risks. My main advice would be to get comfortable using crampons and an ice axe(s), and to go with someone who is more experienced for your first time or two. Making a mistake up there is very high consequence. Id recommend climbing MSH in winter (before April you don't need a permit) This is a good climb to practice those skills with lower risk. Feel free to hit me up on FB (Andrew De La Bruere) if you want to discuss more details.
