I have the tough 3 for about 4 years and take it to Hawaii, the pool, rafting, etc and it has been great. It shoots 1080p which is excellent. The f2.0 is very helpful and the different underwater modes do a great job on underwater color correction... that is for the $350 price it was.
Its also got a very good macro feature called microscope that enables you to take shots close with detail.
Everytime I think I'm going to switch from Olympus, I can't because I don't want to give up a feature for image quality or auto focus performance from another brand. With video, it's not Olympus strong point and I don't think your going to be blown away by this camera. I am hitting limits with the contrast auto focus that is holding me back and many brands are catching up on the feature side that Olympus has had. I really hope the next E-M5 has phase detection and hits it out of the park for video. Maybe they will keep me as a customer and possibly a good review from you. Always enjoy your videos!
I stll have my TG1, it still works as it should. I like the tap function to go through the pictures, select modes and some presets.
I just got one last week and need to get the right video settings in it to use it properly. Did some short video in Duluth Mn at Benntlyville Lights and found it to be a bit blurred. Again just a matter of finding correct settings. Great review

For a "tough" camera, the audio was surprisingly good. Indoor video was unimpressive, for that price point.
For a tough outdoors camera the indoor footage looks surprisingly usable. It looked ok once the focus locked on to your face. If properly mounted it might be kind of usable even indoors.
I wonder if you can connect an atomos ninja too it like you did for the rx 100v. Lol wonder how b-roll would look compared. I heard it records in 4K.
how do you take slow motion videos with the tg-6?
I considered the Olympus toughcams back in my point and shoot days. Nice to see you consider this, it looks to have kept the same general design sonic guess it works quite well. Have fun, I never got to play around with one.
This is a great camera even if you have a proper DSLR. It shoots amazing macro photos and because of its size it’s easier to position it for the perfect shot.

I had the Olympus tg-870 with the flip screen, best camera I've ever had. Just recently broke but I put that thing through every scenerio. Always carried my sony and and tg-870.... Sad it broke but opens the window for an upgrade
This makes a great companion to an action camera. The TG6 is great at the things GoPro is lousy at - zoom lens, close-up, and macro, while GoPro is great at being small, hyperlapse, and wide angle.

Yeah I’ve only used action cameras and while I really like them I think there is some value in cameras like these 👍
Hello Daddy! Nice channel you've got! A little off-topic: does The Everyday Dad filming his family? If yes, what camera are you using for your personal memories, and why? Maybe a video on that, for us, lots of other Daddies?
I have a tough tg 6 and I can tell you how to manually control it. So when your on the camera mode press the ok button and all of this stuff should pop up like the filters and stuff.
Does it crop when shooting 4k?

Of course what I really want to see is how tough is it? But, I don't expect you to take it mountain climbing and toss is down the mountain to see if it still works when it lands at the bottom. So how do you determine durability when that is the main selling point of a camera?
Never had a tough camera. I have a 7 megapixel waterproof Pentax with a 3x zoom purchased a long time ago. It was great on the kayak and shot some nice pics back in the day. I think it shot 480P video and use that feature while sailing my kayak. 🤣 ALWAYS kept it in a pocket on my PFD. It outlasted a few other regular point n shoots. I bet it would still work if I bought a battery for it. Anyway, there's definitely a market for something like this, but I'd be leaning more towards stills.
BTW, did you change your overhead setup? It might be my monitor settings, but it looked razor sharp today.

Oh yeh - and totally agree about USB-C. Only thing I have that's USB-C is my DJI OSMO Action camera and I love not having to worry about which way to plug it in. Come on companies - get with the times. Gesh.
I’m still using a TG-2. It’s my go to camera for outdoor type vacations, trips and snorkeling. The amount of abuse it’s gone through would destroy any non rugged camera.
Hey, Gary. This looks like a nice little tough camera. Not sure about that video quality, but I'm looking forward to your in depth review. However, much much much better video quality outdoors.
Good Lord, that image quality is a hot mess. Is it really tougher than RX0 line?

I’m a huge fan of Panasonic and bought THEIR sports water proof camera. Twice. Both failed after not all that much ownership in the water. Went with Olympus after that which has never failed me with similar use.
I have tg 6 , it is a good tough camera , but the videos can not be read in mid-range smartphone , anybody here can view and upload videos to facebook or youtube by smartphone ( by memory card)?

All the TG models so far have had horrible audio especially when zooming. Please show us video footage and audio and zoom in and out. Hope they fixed it!

The whole rugged camera market has been in stagnation for ages. It's too bad that this is the best it gets spec wise (large aperture lens, RAW recording, etc). There was a line of waterproof rugged Olympus cameras before this one that had an actual flip screen, but they discontinued it for whatever reason. So I'll give Olympus props for at least trying hard than other manufacturers. ;D What I'd like to see are larger sensors and wider aperture lenses (with a full set of photographer settings/features). Hmm, now that I think of it.. Nikon had the AW1 which is probably the best there is in a camera like this, but that mount didn't survive due to poor sales. :(

I'm half way to return the TG-6, low light quality is shit. Guess where has low light.
After buying dji action osmo action 3 i lost interest in action cameras. Probably going to pick one of these cameras up. Tired of small screens . Fish eye wide angle and mediocre photo modes.
