I bought this camera so I could still go out shooting when the weather is bad. I'm really impressed how well this camera does at taking macro photos. This doesn't get the quality of a DSLR with a macro lens. However it makes up for it by making it easier to get the camera into the right position.
Firstly great demo. Glad I find out about the zoom requiring you to zoom out or just capture a circle. I think I will be ordering the ring light. In the 5 images you show for the led ring light and flash diffuser what do you mean by Camera LED light vs the On camera flash?
The camera has both a flash and an led located next to it. If you use the FD-1 you turn on the flash, if you use the LG-1 you hold down the info button to turn the led on which makes the ring light light up.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this! Just got my ring light yesterday, and was trying to see how to attach it before I attempted myself! Thank you so much for sharing all of these wonderful examples too! 💖💖👏👏👏
There are some videos showing the differences... I would go with the FD1 though distance to subject has to be minimum 2 centimetres vs 1 centimetre with the LG1.
Great video! Is it possible to turn on the led when shooting video (either with or without the ring light). I’m trying to figure out how to brighten the video when videoing friends indoors, at bars, restaurants, etc. I had a Nikon cool pix w300 which did this but I can’t figure it out on this camera.
thanks for this informative video. I am considering buying the TG6 camera, only because of the excellent reviews for its Macro mode. I will only be using the Macro mode for up close photos of coins, many of which are extremely reflective. I have used ring light attachments in the past and they did a great job of lighting around the outside of a coin but left the majority of the coin in the dark. Do you think the same will happen with the LG1 attachment. And do you think the amount of light will wash out the picture?
It will absolutely not wash out the image. The sample I showed of the close up of the leaf with the ring light attachment, I was literally on top of the leaf and it still shows an amazing amount of detail.
Good to know! I had played around with setting the accessory but didn't seem to automatically do it, but maybe I was hitting something wrong. Thank you for letting us know!
I bought the TG6 for underwater photography but I would like to use it for night time astrophotography as well. I bought a Samyang wide angle lens but I need a mount for the camera - can you help?? It has been confusing and frustrating trying to find a mount that will fit. Thx!
The TG-6 does not have the capability to take lenses unfortunately. However, I have helped customers who have purchased the TG-6 and they have adapted it through DIY directly to a telescope. Otherwise, this camera has few manual settings to do, for example, wide angle milky way shots. While you typically want to do this with an interchangeable lens camera, I would say the best camera to achieve that photography in a point and shoot is the Panasonic LX100.
nictheartist there are ND filters made by other companies designed with an adapter to fit the TG-5/TG-6 cameras. As far as I know, there is not an Olympus brand version of these but it’s worth a shot!
I did show the results in typical indoor low lighting in this video, since that will be the most common low lighting situation my viewers will come across. However, I can say out of any shockproof/waterproof camera, this camera performs the best in low light conditions. I would definently invest in the ring light attachment to help add more light when caving but this would definently be the best investment. Hope this helps!
I recently bought this camera just for caving and it is perfect. It was dragged through mud, bashed on rocks, submerged in water, survived getting pummeled by a water fall climbing out of a pit. I would suggest getting the lens barrier so you don't have a lens cap that can be lost but you can still protect the main lens. The light diffuser and light ring attachments aren't water proof. I use the camera as is with the lens barrier and I have a high end caving headlamp I use to light my way and my pictures. All photos here were taken with the TG-6 in RAW format and I processed them through Adobe Lightroom: imgur.com/a/TW4qnMT
Would you say that the lg-1 is better suited for use with macro photography than the FD 1? Specifically when taking photos of things like plants, mushrooms, insects in the field. Thanks!
The LG-1 (led adapter ring) is NOT water resistant, the FD-1 (flash diffuser) is. If you put the LG-1 ring in sea water, you might notice it gets a bit brown-ish and might become less bright. It has a very slim reflective foil inside, it is easy to take apart to clean (before the foil gets degraded).
No lenses, but as far as I know, I believe there are 4 attatchments to the lens. Everything I show here plus a fisheye attachment that can be a little more difficult to find.
I don't think the diffuser would really help underwater. I would say the only attachment I would say that works underwater the best is the ring light reflector.
Very nice illustration and explanation of these! I have a TG-5 and I wish I had known about the telephoto lens before I bought it. I'm thinking the fisheye lens wouldn't have the same issue? I have been wondering about the led ring vs the diffuser for very close macro shots? Would the diffuser blow out a macro shot? I use this as a second camera for macro when hiking, or if the weather is bad. I've been very happy with it. Again, nice that you made this video, thanks!
Hello Berry! I imagine the fisheye would not have the same issue as the telephoto as it is just super wide. As for the diffuser vs. the light ring for macro, you will want to go with the ring light all the way. The diffuser is going to be to soften the flash in a dim situation like indoors or for portraits. I am glad you enjoyed my video! I have links for the ring light and diffuser below as well. Feel free to share!
If you are missing the ring, it does not compromise its waterproof abilities! Your safe! :) (It just means you have to dry out the crevices to keep it clean when your all done in the water!)
You can use it without the ring, so you are safe, camera is still water resistant. You can tell because the accessories mount is not perfectly sealed, I mean you can tell water can pass by that mounting point, the seal is made at the lens glass which you cannot take off.
The ring light is perfect for macro\close underwater shots, but keep in mind this is a point and shoot so that light will only help so far in distance.
It is quite simple on this camera :) there is a silver button toward the bottom corner next to the ring around the lens. Hold that button and twist counter clockwise to remove the ring. Line up the dot on the attachment and the camera and set in evenly before rotating clockwise to hear a click! Your good to go!
Biggest issue with the light ring for me is that sometimes it turns on when recording, other times it wont activate when recording. It seems to be ok some days, not on others. I will switch on just fine, but the moment I click record it turns off. Attempting to switch it on whilst recording doesn't work either. :(
Very interesting! I wonder if this has something to do with the battery level at the time of recording. I will look into it and let you know if I find anything.
Btw, I am testing the Ricoh WG-80 for a walkthrough and it is comparable to this camera BUT it comes with the attachment for a filter and cap (sold separately)!
LG-1 is an overpriced waste of money. Very little light output and unable to be used for reflective surfaces which reflect the LG-1 in the photo. All plastic for over $30! More like $8.95 is much better. Get yourself a small LED light to illuminate those close-ups.

Is FD1 good for makro ?
I would say the LG1 is much better for macro

Thanks for the video, very useful.
Can you please do the longer lenses on the Olympus tough 6 please and show how to use them
Also consider a lumecube for lighting.

Yes, you can turn on the LED through the quick menu (the left directional button)
Hold the info button for 4 seconds.
Diffusor also for macro?
Yes but if you want to get REALLY close then the ring light is better at not casting shadows on the thing you want to photograph.
Your Amazon link shows the telephoto kit as working with all TG models. On both B&H and Adorama sites they show it only working up to the model 5. ??
Well in the video I did use it on the TG-6 specifically and it worked just fine, so they may have overlooked an update to the information.

You need to set an accessory option in the menu for telephoto. It automatically zooms it out for you then.
Good to know! I had played around with setting the accessory but didn't seem to automatically do it, but maybe I was hitting something wrong. Thank you for letting us know!
How do I find the option in the menu for tele and widephoto?
It is in the quick menu and is listed by the accessory number.
@@rayholmlund2428 Press the ok button, go to the AC option at the very bottom and then you can select the lens attachments and the flash diffusor

Can you use both ring lights underwater? Or is it just for above water photography
They can both be used to a certain depth before putting on the underwater housing requires the attachment of an underwater flash.
Can one use the defuser under water?
You can (make sure after using to rinse off thoroughly with fresh water), although I am not sure it would make a difference under the water.
Another way to turn on the light for the macro attachment is to long press the info button on the tg5 at any rate. Not sure about the tg6
TG6 has the same option.
Do we need the converter to use lighting ring or diffuser
The converter is just for the telephoto attachment.
Ty
I have the TG-2 and TG-7. Just got two attachments..
Hi, does the adapter ring allow for an ND filter being attached?

you just have to remove the ring on the front of the camera out of the box and put the FD-1 in its place!
@@Shutterbug101 thanks a lot 👍🏻

Can the diffuser be used underwater?
Yes, just be sure to rinse with fresh water afterward and dry throughly
Please can you post videos without the background music for people with sensory and/or attention issues? Thanks.
No
Nice
Thanks.
Would you say that the lg-1 is better suited for use with macro photography than the FD 1? Specifically when taking photos of things like plants, mushrooms, insects in the field. Thanks!
Absolutely!
Can the flash attachments be used in saltwater for snorkeling?
Absolutely! Just make sure you rinse off camera and attachments in fresh water when your done and dry them well, as saltwater is very corrosive.

@@adrianTNT Thank you for clearing that up for me.
LG-1 is too weak (runs off the LED). Olympus recommends the FD-1 only.
Is this Good for shooting videos?
I would say it has decent video taking capabilities, but I wouldn’t purchase it specifically to do video.
@@Shutterbug101 thanks
How many actual types of lenses fit on this camera?
No lenses, but as far as I know, I believe there are 4 attatchments to the lens. Everything I show here plus a fisheye attachment that can be a little more difficult to find.
There are several attachments - must investigate in the Olympus website.

My macro with or without LED light isn't clear and is too bright either way???? What do I change 😂between rapture and everything I'm learning.
If your pictures are too bright then the ISO is probably too high. You can set it to Auto in the OK button menu and it adjusts it for you.
Can acc from tg5 attach to tg 6???
Yes they can!
Usually but the silicone protective cover might fit differently - they sell separately.
When I go travelling which 1 to take with me? I may go e.g hill...mountain... shopping...cafe. I have FD-1 n LG-1.
I would say for casual shooting use the FD-1 diffuser :)
Would you use a gimbal with this camera?
I suppose you could due to the lack of stabilization, I don’t see why not if you want steady video!
The camera has 2-D stabilisation - not sure if good enough.

They really couldn't include a lens cap with the camera?
I don’t know of too many underwater cameras that have a cap. However, if you get the telephoto attachment, it does have the attachable lens cap mount.
@@Shutterbug101 2:00 I mean this should just be included instead of sold separately

They sell a cap that I immediately bought for my TG5 and now TG6. Cheap plastic but protective.
