I still miss and love him dearly - in my book he was the best Hard Rock / Metal singer ever to walk this planet. The passion in his voice - he was a real story teller and he took you with him on a journey if you let him - listening to his songs and his great lyrics. There is a huge gap that never can be filled. I heared Holy Diver in 1986/7 and was blown away by this man. He left us a huge songbook that we can go back to and will be forever missed. Rest well, Ronnie....
Saw it at the cinema, had to watch it on the biggest screen available.....at the end, my bro sitting next to me, started a standing ovation......it went for a good 3 minutes after it finished.....what an impact on so many peoples lives, RIP Ronnie, never forgotten!!
I saw Elf open for Deep Purple in the early 70's at the Chicago Ampitheater. Remarkable that I still have memories of that show!
Ronnie James Dio was one of the best in the business, a true pioneer for helping to spread the popularity of Heavy Metal. He had a incredible career. He was taken from us too soon. RIP, Ronnie.
It still hurts me to this day as much as when he passed away. Ronnie was a special kind of star 🌟. I have loved his music most of my life. Sounds silly, but whenever I was going through major emotional trauma in my life, his music lifted my spirits. When I think I'm emotionally strong enough, I will watch it for sure. Thanks Pete for the review. ❤️
Great review Pete. I hope to see this in the UK sometime. I was fortunate enough to have met Ronnie and Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Vinnie Appice and Scott Warren after a Heaven and Hell show in Newcastle in the UK! Tony signed my Les Paul scratch plate and Ronnie and I had a great chat and I got photos with the whole band which are now framed and have pride of place in my music room. Love all of your shows. Keep well and keep up the good work. It's very much appreciated! 🤘👍😊
RIP Ronnie, will never be forgotten.
I saw Ronnie back in the 80s in Edinburgh. He was unbelievable that voice nearly took the roof off the venue. Sadly missed
If it was with Craig Goldie, I was there
@@GordonHeaney it was !

Excellent rock doc. Really showed that Ronnie was not only a great singer, he was a quality person as well. One of my favorite lines in the movie was " Ronnie couldn`t write a song like "Unskinny Bop" even if you put a gun to his head.
Can you imagine seeing Ronnie ,your hero, a second time and him remembering your first visit. I get emotional thinking about that. What a great man. Something to aspire to be. And his great music on top of that. Powerful!!!!
Saw this in theaters. Amazing and made me appreciate the Legend even more!
I was fortunate to meet and hang with Ronnie for a while after a gig in San Francisco during the late 90's. Just like everyone says, he really took the time to meet and spend the time with his fans. I only wish I had a cell phone at the time so I could have gotten a photo with him. He did sign my ticket stub and I'm thankful for that. A night I'll never forget.
Saw Dio 3 times. Incredible memories that I will always hold dear. Especially the last time, which was with Iron Maiden and Motorhead in 2003. With Ronnie and Lemmy gone, that's a bill that can never occur again on our mortal coil. 🤘🤘 Those Sabbath/Heaven & Hell albums with Ronnie are absolute monuments cast in immovable stone.
Look forward to seeing it. Glad to hear it is well done, Ronnie deserves that...Thanks!
An amazing documentary. I shed a few tears and so did my mom. If everyone was like dio this would be a better place. Rip dio you are deeply missed.
I can't WAIT to watch this documentary!! I've been deep diving into Dio's life and his music after a very close friend told me that my lyrics are just like his.... and I was blown away. Holy hell!! What an inspiration, too!!
Excellent documentary. The last 15 minutes were hard to get through. I remember in my high school days those first two solo albums were just massive. My favorite of his is still the Rainbow Rising album. RIP.
I saw it twice back to back because it was so good. Great film for a great talent. RIP
hi Pete nice one 😎 can't help but cry right now ... was only talking about Ronnie the other day with my eldest brother ... was crying then too telling him how nice Ronnie was when meeting him back in the 80's (met the whole band it was probably Holy Diver tour) and of course Jimmy (Bain also ... no longer with us) and seeing the last Heaven & Hell tour ( had mixed feelings then ... I could tell ... 😓) R.I.P. Ronnie 🤘🤘🤘⚜🔱⚜
I wish Richie and Ronnie could have buried the hatchet before Ronnie left us. They were phenominal toge5her musically. I still think Rising is my favorite album in both of their catalogs...which is an awfully tough thing to select my favorite album for each of them. Richie has Machinehead and In rock as well. Dio has Heaven and Hell along with Holy Diver to go along with Their 3rd album together Long live Rock and Roll andand Ronnies work on Mob Rules and Last in line. I'm still leaving out D9wn to earth Richie Blackmores Rainbow and Dios 3rd album. Burn, Perfect Sttangers, Difficult to cure and good lord what a legacy. That said, Risibg is a masterclass.
listened to a lot of bootlegs of Rainbow, Osaka 78 is very good. ua-cam.com/video/7pV8rHqbU-8/v-deo.html
Cannot wait to see this movie. RJD is one of my heroes! Such a powerful voice, a tremendous person and so many classic albums with three different bands.
Hello from plano,it was good of course ending was sad.
He and Geezer gave me an Autograph after a Concert 1980 . He had no Star airs and was very friendly.
Just managed to see it this morning. Showtime isn’t available in the UK, so we haven’t been able to see it over here unless we caught the original cinema limited release. I thought it was a great little rockumentary, but if it had one flaw, it breezed through some key moments in his life too quickly such as his time with Rainbow and his first stint in Black Sabbath. Iconic periods in his life that more time should have been dedicated to. It also covered the 20 year period from 1986-2006 as if it was a mere footnote, when in fact, he did some great albums during that period. Such as Dream Evil, Dehumanizer, Magica, Killing the Dragon and Master of the Moon all of which deserved much more recognition than this film gave them. They gave more coverage to his cameo in Tenscious D’s pick of destiny Than this 20 year period of creativity. I too was moved when watching the final 10-15 minutes. I loved the part when they talked about the special relationship with his fans and how he remembered them. My best mate and I saw Dio about 14 times over the years and thanks to Wendy, always got back stage passes when they played a gig here in the midlands. (Birmingham/Wolverhampton), and it’s true. Ronnie DID remember you. The last time I saw him live was with the Dio band in Birmingham in 2008 and he hugged us both and said “I knew you two were going to be here today, you’ve always been here for me”. The guy was just pure magic, there’s nothing more to he said.
I was at a concert where Heathen was the headliner. Halfway their show the bass player said that Ronnie had died. That made me feel so incredibly sad and shocked me right to my core that a few minutes later I was heading home. Just wanted to be alone. Dammit...
I never met the guy, and I still feel the loss on a level that I find surprising. Hearing Holy Diver when I was 12 or 13 was a life changing moment for me, and I have listened to his work nearly every day over the following 4 decades.... Have a large chunk of my leg covered with a Holy Diver tattoo. Only saw him once, and that was with heaven and Hell, but it was for me an incredible experience, such a connection, such power, passion, talent.
High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years worth of breakin' my back
There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard
See how he glides, why he's lighter than air
Oh I see his face!
Hi Pete. This is an excellent film and a must watch if you are a Dio fan. Very emotional.
Just watched this film yesterday, really good tribute to a true legend.
Good review -Chris alo should talk about it too-maybe an interview with Wendy Dio is something on your plans !!!
Looking forward to seeing this Doc. Only got to see Ronnie twice during his fist stint w/ Sabbath and never saw the Dio band or Rainbow. But what a voice he had!!! Also, with the interviews that i had seen of him and the things that I have heard about hit, he was a really nice, giving person. Still miss him a Lot.
I just watched the film, well done. It was interesting that they did not mention the "Dehumanizer" era, which I thought was the best work that he did with Tony, Geez and Vin. But I love everything that he did, he was a very unique individual, and will always inspire me...."Long-live Ronnie"...\m/
Hopefully the film comes to physical media or other streaming platforms to rent or buy soon.
Pete. That show you did a couple years ago for Christmas and Holidays where all the shows on the channel were on was really awesome! It was early in my relationship with SOT and have watched everything since. Now that I have gotten to know you all more it would be that much more fun. I understand that the logistics of it would be quite challenging however I had to throw the request of the possibility of it happening again into the ring. Huge fan and thanks for everything.
It’s happening next Monday night actually!
@@sotdude7 Awesome to hear, can't wait!
This was spectacular in the theater . . My buds Jillian and Owen from Ruby the Hatchet were the stoners during the “Heaven and Hell” portion with Jack Black narrating. The number of people in this was astounding. Can’t recall the last time I enjoyed-or started crying during-a film.
If it was possible for RJD to go higher on my respect level, then this doco did that. A wonderfully moving tribute to an absolute legend. And thanks for the review Pete. RIP Ronnie ❤
So well made. Tears flowed at the end (as expected). RIP RJD 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for everything you do, Pete.
Can’t wait to see this.I can’t find it available in the UK yet.Hopefully soon.
I enjoyed the part leading up to Elf. All about his childhood, trumpet playing and bands before Elf. Really interesting.
I was really surprised to see my friend Danny Lilker interviewed in the documentary. I've been trying to find his email info to find out what the connection was. Played the documentary for a few non-Dio fans, who kinda thought it would be a joke, and they all loved it!
Excellent film. You’re right Pete. The time flew by watching it.
Saw DIO 6 x in NJ/ NYC area over years. First time 8️⃣4️⃣/ MEADOWLANDS NJ. LEGEND. Thanks PETE 👍💯
Great review Pete. I so wish as well i would have went and seen Dio and got a chance to meet him and said hello one of my regrets 😔 and he came to my town on many occasions. Im so happy they made this flim to carry on the Great legacy of Ronnie 🤘🤘
Thanks só much Pete, really appreciate this & was looking forward to a solid review!!! I’m so pissed that we over here in the Netherlands CAN NOT watch this anywhere! Just crazy… been searching the internet èverywhere to see if I can buy/download/rent.. without any luck. Just crazy. Thanks for this great review!
Disapointed I missed that Heaven & Hell tour, but I did see Dio 3 times open for Iron Maiden. 2 of those times he was opening for the Virtual XI tour & Dio def was blowing Maiden off the stage on that tour. lol! The other time was later on after Bruce came back and it was Maiden, Dio, and Motorhead.
Ronnie was truly a magical being!
We all miss DIO so great singer we will never see again. I want to see that movie Sad ending but that`s life
We miss Ronnie James DIO Thanks from talking about this we have his music to remember & so mutch .....
Dreamers Never dies PETE
I will watch it. I only had the chance to see him one time with Rainbow in Dortmund, Germany. It was a fantastic concert. Miss him.
Hoping this is released on Blu-Ray at some point.
I thought it was awesome. I would’ve added a few things that they skipped out on in the 90’s, but overall it was super solid.
i agree though they skipped out on the Dehumanizer Sabbath reunion and strange highways but otherwise it was a amazing documentary and tribute to Ronnie
Notice you got the 80s era Kiss on shelf . The 80s Kiss album are excellent. Playing them more than the 70s Kiss 😍😎😍
And the Kiss 80s music videos are so ridiculous and funny.
It should have included Vivian Campbell. The disagreements between Wendy and Viv needs to end.
Pete, did you know that Argott and Fenton were the same guys that did the Pentagram last days here doc
They also played in a really good band called Serpent Throne that I think you would like.
Did they talk at all with or about Kerry Livgren asking Ronnie to sing on his first solo album? It put a great singer together with a great songwriter.
A tiny mention perhaps, not sure but there's a good Seeds of Change CD interview with Kerry talking about it. ua-cam.com/video/f9vlQ2YgJ2s/v-deo.html
As a huge Dio fan I was a bit worried that this film might be a let down. I'm happy to report that it was well done and those who participated did an excellent job (could've done without Bach). Dio is the greatest rock/metal singer there ever was, Heaven and Hell is the greatest metal album ever made. His legacy will live on forever, long live rock n' roll.
We’ve been looking forward to seeing this film. As hard as it is to do, we’re going to hold out until it’s released on Bluray and DVD.🎧
Dimebag was exactly the same as he would remember everything about me every time he came thru Philly.
Loved it!
🌠yeah , I saw the movie @ the dmc theater in danbury..really good, merry Christmas Pete🎄
Good review. Gonna watch the doc again!
Gotta watch this
I saw it in the theater and found it to be excellent. A must watch for any RJD fan.
hey Pete check out Argott and Fenton's band Serpent Throne i think you may dig em
Hey Pete. Nice review to DIo fillm. I have yet to see it and take it in. I so loved the music and voice of Rainbow Sabbath and Dio and on tape of his early crooning's and with Elf before getting into Hard Rock and Metal that he did. I being fortunate I saw Rainbow twice in 76 and then open for REO Speedwagon in 78. Then see him in Black Sabbath in 80 Heaven and Hell tour then DIO in 88 headline. Wish I did stick around to meet him but didn't but always liked hearing his perspectives on things and how much he was yes well regarded true to the fans. As the albums I would say were to be notably very good each and everyone in it's way as to go along with being a good in coming up with the songs that were done. Rising and Long Live Rock and Roll fave Rainbow albums. The Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules and Dehumanizer albums and Holy Diver Last In Line - Dream Evil his solo albums that are tops with me. Some HM to Strange Highways as a fourth. I put on whatever though of the many selections of whatever I would feel of any given day of an album when I like to as well. A great guy so well missed. Thanks Pete and to all Dio fans,
You got to hand it to Ritchie Blackmore. He knows his singers. Rod Evans Ian Gillian David Coverdale Glenn Hughes RONNIE JAMES DIO Graham Bonnet Joe Lynn Turner.
I'll have to have a couple of tissues boxes at hand when I see this, long live Ronnie 😞🍺🤘
Thanks Pete.
There's a book? I missed it somehow. Is Martin Popoff the author?
It was a damn good doc. Damn near cried myself.
This was so great !!!!
I'm not a HUGE FAN but I love last in line. Dream evil and killing the dragon are my favorite albums. I also love heaven and hell and mob rules. Heaven and hell is imo one of the best albums ever recorded
I'm in the UK, don't think I can get showtime is there a DVD or Blu-ray release date?
🤘🏻 3:45
I really enjoyed it, the only part I didn't like was the appearance by Sebastian Bach, he's such a clown and still acts like he's 15 years old.
Yes, he was the weak point in the Triumph documentary too.
I am interested to see this movie but disappointed to hear that they didn’t interview Vivian Campbell. I understand why but it’s still a shame because he had a lot to do with Ronnie’s success.
Elf is the s--t. Honky Tonk greatness.
Recently watched an interview with RJD that popped up in my YT feed. In the interview they went over Ronnie's discography and what he thought of his past work. To my shock and dismay he didn't have a lot of good things to say about Rainbow Rising. IIRC he said it just a bunch of self indulgent nonsense. He went on to say there are a few good songs on it and you have a long guitar solo and drum solo. If you think that makes it a classic there you go. Seems like he dismissed it entirely. I wonder if it's because of the issues he had with Rainbow.
I've seen Dio twice, once opening for Aerosmith in San Diego 1983 and the place was empty. We bought front row seats the day of the show.
Dio was great but Aerosmith was so f**ked up they were bumping into each other and falling down, complete clowns. The second was in Las Vegas with Whitesnake and Yngwie as the openers. Surprisingly John Sykes was the best and most enjoyable guitarist of the night. I was a huge Vivian Campbell and Yngwie fans at the time and had only just heard Slide It In but was blown away by MR. Sykes.
You don't need to hear a review of this movie, just watch it. What can someone say that's going to change your mind either way, go now and watch some Dio.
Is this available for purchase on a streaming site?
Not exactly easy to just "go see it"
@@bryanmcfadden4071 Its on Showtime and Prime TV, so if you have any of those you can watch for free.
I want to see this film so bad
