Mercruiser 3.0 2(i) - Tool Saves Time

In this video I’m using a crankshaft turning socket, Proform 66900, to install a front cover on a Mercruiser 3.0 engine. The socket was not intended for this purpose but I had a hunch that it would fit and do the job. The socket was intended to help rotate small block Chevrolet engines before the harmonic balancer is installed. However it will also fit the Mercruiser 3.0 crankshaft and it makes a nice concentric installation tool.
The way I used to get the cover concentric is shown in the video below so this new method will be a time saver since I have full access to all the cover bolts. The video also shows a custom DIY tool I made for installing the balancer. This tool is a must have for working on 3.0 engines and is another reason you should bring your boat to me for rebuilding. I’ve taken the time to make the tools needed to get the job done right.

I'm pretty sure this should be a Proform 66901. I ordered the 66900 and both the ID and OD are larger than would work on the 3.0. I checked the specs for the 66901 and it appears to match the 3.0 crank. I'll update my comment once the new one arrives and i can confirm.
