1991 Capri 1850 same click sound.. My ignition fuse would pop if I held that click. Replaced starter unaware of slave solenoid.. Same click replaced slave solenoid and it’s starting like new. Great tip in a pinch!
Hey glad that it worked! I suspect due to your ignition fuse blowing that your starter likely was faulty as well. I just changed another on the weekend for a “click” issue. The only time I have seen the fuses blow is when starters have gotten water in them.
Thanks Glen. I know an easy task for mechanical guys. Hope i can help someone get home with a bad solenoid. Great meeting you too and i hope to be back!
Hello, having issues with my 1991 rinker. Power to the gauges and trim works. But just get a click when I turn key. When I jump the solenoid nothing happens. Is my only other option the starter?
@@Schneids15 You were right, after jumping the relay didnt work, i took a mallet to my starter to try and knock the solenoid loose and it fired right up. Will need a new starter soon but atleast i could go out on the water this weekend. Thanks!
This was so helpfull thank you!!! If you don't mind I'm still getting the clicking sound even when I try doing this. Does that mean my starter is bad and I have to replace it?
@@Schneids15 it makes a clicking sound but the motor doesn’t turn over just clicks. Should I change the connectors first before investing in a whole new starter ?
So my boat when I turn the key the engine just turns over. I hear no click. But it won’t fire. Weird because it fired up fine right before I took it to the lake.
Great walk through, 1 comment though, you do not have to have the key on for it to crank that way, the slave solenoid has a hot wire straight from the battery, the only wire that is switched is the start signal wire. Atleast that is how my boat is
Wow! You just saved me 500.00. This was my problem as well! Thanks

Worked great! My starter was just replaced a few years ago so i didnt think it was bad already. Jumped this solenoid and it fired right up!
Excellent! Super happy it helped and thank you for commenting!
And if it still clicks when you cross those solenoid tips does that mean the starter is bad

Very likely a starter. However check connections at battery and verify a good battery.

Those solenoids die from time to time, the same type was used in the trim pump on my old Bravo 1 drive.

That is likely the issue yes. Could be poor connections or low battery as well.

@@williamp.3546 did you figure it out? When I cross mine it also just clicks
Same motor. Put mine in gear & it’s too fast. What can I adjust to bring the idle speed down?! Thx for help!
Should be an adjustment on side of carb. Either a torx or flathead. That will fix ya up.

Yes could be a spark or fuel issue or something else. At least you have it turning over.
