Thanks for taking the time to video. There are 2 allen head screws at the top inside of each transmission housing that do not look like plugs but you can loosen them to bleed air out transmission case. It will let oil in quicker. I just happen to see them on the parts list otherwise I wouldn't have known they were not housing screws.
Thanks for the video!, just did a chinese carb part swap, air filter, and oil + battery (added some LED lights to the light kit to boot)... 37x hours on mine I got from my father and I dont think he ever did the Hydra's on it (still runs like a champ)
Open the fill plugs on the side near the top of each hydrostatic unit. Makes filling from the reservoir much quicker. There’s even a vent bolt on the very top of the units that works too.
That was the best tip ever !!!! I'm surprised that this guy in the video never even mentioned that or showed us video would have been 110% complete if it was for that mention of the ear plug on the top you have to remove the tires to do so to make it easier!
Thanks a lot, you just saved me a lot of headache on changing that hydro belt, mine just snapped and have to replace it, its already on order but had to figure how to make my life easy replacing it, that's where you came in, lol, your info is gold for me, probably do the hydro oil too, I got about 200hrs on it, never done the oil, worked great so far for my personal needs around the house. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to video this work, you and your wife. Dan
Excellent video, I totally underestimated the time and difficulty of doing this. Your video was much appreciated. It took all I had to get the original factory filters off! Dang things were on so tight I destroyed them taking them off using filter pliers. The reservoir fill method took me the better part of two days for the air to purge even after trying the hydro cycling. I do believe next time I will pull the top plugs to purge air.
You're welcome. I will try to keep this short. Our inventory is always a work in progress. It started as use it twice, stock an extra. Over the years it has grown according to my customers and their equipment. My inventory is solely based on my area, our customers and the equipment they use. I'm sure every geographic location is different. Hope this helps you my friend.
First timer changing hydraulic fluid on my gravely and this was very helpful!!!!Now, can you show me how to change the engine oil in this same machine? I can’t find the oil plug!😢
I replaced the hydro belt and now I’m going to change the oil and service my friends Gravely and I have you to thank. Your two videos helped me and gave me the confidence to tackle this job, thanks from Wine Country, Napa California….
Changing those drive motoer pulleys are fun . Had to replace dads 2 different times . And i put little bolts in to help hold them together.. number 6 little bolts .
That is what I am looking for on YT. I have the same mower and my instructions say remove the drain plug, and when filling, wait until oil appears at the drain plug. I changed my hydro fluid a few years ago without removing the drain plug and it took about 12 hours for the fluid to get from the fill tank to the hydros. I don't want to wait 12 hours this time :-)
Great video and music T-Bone,,, you make small engine repairs fun and interesting. I would do this job but only have a Kenco coffee tub so I will leave it to the professionals
I bought my zero turn second hand and while changing the oil I found the drive belt to broken in several places with big pieces of the belt gone. Only thing holding it together was the cords. Not to bad replacing it but I did remove the the old one so I knew how to put the new one on.
I know I'm gonna learn a lot from you. I don't have big equipment and didn't know it was a slow process with changing the oil. The biggest piece of equipment I have is a Cub Cadet tractor. This was interesting and will be watching more brother.
Question. How can I fix play in the levers. Is there an adjustment to the pump itself? Its been driving me crazy. It feels like having a bad rag joint when your trying to use it.
Well there are a lot of factors to consider. But for the typical homeowner, once a season should be good or when the oil looks dirty. For a commercial user it would be sooner because they are using the machine everyday.
I acquired an older Gravely ZT XL 42" model 915160. The owner's booklet says use 20W50 motor oil with an SL API rating for the steering fluid. Is this the same as the 20W50 transmission fluid that you are using? I sat the mower up a couple of months and when I used it again one side of the steering was a little off and it squealed some like it was too low of fluid. Want to change it but I am 73 years old and it is in the high 90's here near New Orleans and humidity will soak you within 5 minutes. Having no garage, it is hell working on it outside. Hoping to add some fluid and bleed it until late fall when weather cools down and then do a complete fluid change.
I understand the heat and humidity, we are in SC. Go to the parts store and get a quart of Mobile 1 full synthetic 20w50 motor oil. That will get you by until fall when you can change it.
@@RaleysSmallEngines Thanks. I will do that. The side that was weak and making a little noise was below the cold level line at the very bottom of the reservoir. Should remedy the problem for now adding some fluid and keeping it checked. My neighbor thought the motor was burning oil because it was smoking bad when he first cranked it up. He bought a new one. He gave this one to me. The governor shaft seal was mushy and was leaking oil onto the exhaust between mows causing the smoke. Replaced the seal and this Kawasaki Engine runs like new. The deck belt broke a couple months ago. I ordered a new one and used my MTD tractor mower until I got around to changing the belt. Guess it may have a slow leak on the left side.
Just changed the hydro oil and filter on one. Supposed to hold over 4 quarts. When I put new filter and added oil it only took about a quart. How do I get all the old oil out?
New subscriber here. The right side hose from my reservoir has been abraded by the drive belt. It's kind of formed in an "s". Can't find replacement online anywhere. Any advice would be appreciated. Keep the vids coming!
Thank you for subscribing. It would be best to get an OEM hose from a local Gravely dealer. Another option is to look it up on parts tree they should have an OEM to fit your machine. You will need your model number and serial number to look it up on parts tree.
What year is this mower? I have a zt hd52 that looks just like it but I don't know the year. Also how do you reset the change oil message on the hour meter?
Rookie question. Everyone knows you shouldn’t mix brands. Everyone knows but no one follows the rules. I’ll admit. I had minimal issues when I used a Folgers and a Community coffee can once.
I think they call for 500 hours but I like to do them at about 250. You can look up your machine on Manualslib and see the exact service intervals. Thanks for watching
My left hydro gear barely turns. When I got The machine the reservoir was empty so I filled it up and went through the procedure like you did. Still seeing results so I figured I’d come online and see if there’s anything else that I missed. That’s when I came across your video. Any suggestions? My next plan is to pull it out and attempt to take it apart. 😮😅
