    This has made my day! I ordered a nice new green RGB30 yesterday which will arrive in a few weeks. Had no idea Portmaster even existed until now! I would have been happy with just Neo Geo pocket and Gameboy Color games but now...
    Pico-8 + Portmaster + 128Gb of 8 / 16 bit retro gaming on a beautiful screen...

      Thanks! The rgb30 is a great device imo but if you don't specifically like the 1:1 screen, the anbernic rg353 line has the same chip and same operating system available and can do everything this device can and they have a bunch of different form factors.
      I personally like the rgb30 1:1 screen for its versatility with NDS and GBC and Pico8 look great on it.
      Whatever you end up choosing, I'm sure you will enjoy it!

    Have the same problem as others here: The games installed with the Portmaster just don't appear in the Ports section of the JelOS surface. Deleting the whole roms\ports\ folder, re-updating Portmaster, re-installing the games and updating the games list didn't help either. I also downloaded the newest version from the Portmaster website manually and put it into the roms\ports\ folder, but also no success. What is weird: Every time I'm starting Portmaster, a long list of "invalid mapping..." messages appear, don't know if this is normal. But Portmaster runs normally and shows the latest version from the website. Does anyone have a solution for this?

      Once the game is installed via portmaster, you launch the game back at the system main menu like you launch your ROMs (SNES, gameboy, etc). You can find portmaster games in the "ports" section

    Hey friend, ive heard many reviews and comments saying that the battery of this game should be a problem, like drain or dead battery, have issued any of these problems?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  9 місяців тому

      I'll admit that the battery is not great. With the os that shipped with my device I had a pretty bad battery life. Since switching to arkos it is better but still not great compared to other handhelds.
      I don't have time for long play sessions so I'm ok with plugging it in occasionally so I don't really mind the poor battery as a trade off for the form factor and screen.

      The rg35xx-h is a bit weaker and the screen is 4:3 rather than 1:1. I'm currently testing out the rg35xx-h so expect videos for that soon. I plan to do some Dreamcast testing in it next week and I'll be sure to include Shenmue but I expect that it should work.

  • @belladonna5012

    Mild necro, but if you have other handhelds capable of Portmaster and Moonlight, what's your favored one? I've been waffling a bit between a few different handhelds, like the RGB30, X55, and RG35XX-H. (I was originally considering an RG35XX Plus, but the horizontal version's features seem like a worthwhile upgrade.)

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  9 місяців тому

      if portmaster is a must then the rg35xx-h is out because it will likely never support portmaster. Don't get me wrong I think it will be a great device and I have one coming in the next few days but it will not support portmaster.
      Of the other two, I prefer the rgb30 only because of the versatility of the 1:1 screen. I don't mind large black bars for other aspect ratio games and there are tons of portmaster games that can take advantage of the large 1:1 screen.

    • @belladonna5012
      @belladonna5012 9 місяців тому

      @@RetroHandheldGuides Thanks for the response! I don't know that I'd call it essential, but it is intriguing. I've seen other 'tubers with a "Ports" option in their RG35XX-H RA, but I don't know what that system is actually doing for ports. It's really unfortunate that they've apparently been sabotaging their relationship with the community software devs who make the software experience actually good.
      I am curious, though: what has your experience with charging, power management, and sleep on the RGB30 been like? I've heard from other 'tubers that power management and sleep are significant issues on the RGB30, but that this is not necessarily Powkiddy's fault and that it seems to be a flaw in the chipset. Still, it's a bit disappointing, because the RGB30 and X55 otherwise look like really good handhelds, and I like that Powkiddy apparently has the sense to maintain a good relationship with devs in the community and not get in the way of them improving the firmware. That kind of openness is actively an asset to their devices IMO.

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  9 місяців тому +1

      The RG35xx does have some ports available that are similar to the ones available through PortMaster but it only has a fraction of the ports and must be specifically ported by a dev. You can't just install a PortMaster game into Ports on the RG35xx Plus/H as it requires a different compile process as far as I know.
      With the pre-installed JELOS i had a pretty bad time with power management but I'm currently using ArkOS and enabled "quick mode" and "switch power button mode to off" so that i can single tap the power button to autosave and power down.
      I suspect that other reviewers are "sleeping" their device rather than powering it off and sleep is definitely very poor on this device so I don't even bother.
      As for charging, I have had no issues at all. Just have to remember that only the "USB" port will charge. The "OTG" port doesn't work to charge. I also use a "dumb" usb A to usb C cable with a basic charging brick.

    • @belladonna5012
      @belladonna5012 9 місяців тому

      @@RetroHandheldGuides It's unfortunate that sleep on this device isn't great, considering it's a portable device, but it's good to hear that ArkOS supports quick hibernation on this device. Do any of these retro handhelds have good sleep, or is bad sleep sort of just the default?

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  9 місяців тому

      A cold boot isn't usually very long for the Linux based devices so it isn't that bad I find. Garlic OS on the Rg35xx has a very quick cold boot which makes it a great pickup and play device. I don't know of any with a good sleep function.
      The android based ones like rg405, retroid pocket, etc have very good sleep but android is not as easy to setup.

    I gotta reinstall Portmaster or something. TMNT worked exactly once on my RGB30 and then never again. Also the buttons on Chasm are still screwed up even though the change log said they fixed it.

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  9 місяців тому

      If you have updated jelos or arkos since you first installed TMNT, it's possible that the SDL libraries were updated to 2.0 which breaks compatibility for some ports. If that's the case then you need to force TMNT to use the old libraries by updating the exec script.
