I love how this interview just went like a chatting between friends, instead of asking the same thing that every interview asked before.
Salute to you man, I hope you get a feature on album 5 🎉
Yessssss
YES! That's because both of these guys are super down to earth. I have had the pleasure of meeting both of them and spending a half hour-one whole hour with. They are both really amazing humans!
thats a podcast my friend
20:40 that’s so amazing his dad did that and guided him like that.
I love how wholesome and appreciative these two are of each other.
I love this. Trivium was my inspiration in 2005 right before I went to college and now that Im....slightly older, Tim and Polyphia got me back into guitar and music in general. Trivium and Polyphia in the same show would be a bucket list item for me.
I haven't gotten to see Trivium yet but Polyphia live is absolutely insane.
Toxic masculinity who? Ha I love that these two dudes talk about such positivity and ways to be better people. This gave me another appreciation for the metal musicians who truly care about being happy and bringing positivity to the world. Matt we need more of this and thank you for making it happen
Matt is such a great talker. Like if I didn't know him as a metal singer, I would've thought he's a university lecturer
He did a talk at Harvard I think, great speaker with cool voice
He’s also got excellent posture, look at that perfect straight back.
This interview is such a wholesome "Did we just become best friends?!" talk! Keep crushing it gents!
Interesting to hear Tim talk about reaching a flow state and about being present but not distracted by other things/life/his own anxiety. He's really talking about a high level of focus. It comes from both an insane amount of practice and being mentally in the zone. I've heard other musicians, performers, and athletes talk about reaching flow or being in the zone. It's what helps them give really stellar performances.
This is so bad ass to see. Trivium was the first band to get me into heavier music coming from the big 4 of thrash in middle school, and now Polyphia has been making me think of writing guitar in different ways for the last 6 years or so. Awesome interview
Two of my favorite faces in music hanging out and asking each other questions was an absolute treat to watch. Thank you both! And looking forward to whatever the future holds for both bands. A colab with Trivium and Polyphia would be legendary!!
Half Native American metal musician here. Cool to see these guys talking about backgrounds and heritage. Interesting and unique perspective in the interview game.
Im half native have German too. I’m not a good musician at all though 😢
Yeah but claiming to be a marine is stolen Valor son
Tim has grown so much as a person I’m seriously proud. I’m a year younger than him and I also feel my 20s were on some degenerate sh*t 😂. Feels good to be hyped on positive things like yoga, and overall health. Cheers guys this was so wholesome and inspiring
Underrated interview, this is dope.
thank you for uploading and doing this! please make it as a series!!! love it when musician talk about health and etc. not just music. it really balanced it out. much love!!!
Such a dope interview. Matt and tim need a podcast
The chemistry between these two is amazing. All of the conversations developed very organically. Excellent and valuable content ❤
This was important for me to listen to. Thank you both for being so real.
Amazing conversation! Love this!
Ya I’m gonna need more of these amazing life conversations between you guys, if possible plz do more ❤ need this shit in my life
I appreciate what I learned from you guys in this conversation. Very fun! I heard some new band names and will be looking into them. Cheers!
This chat came at such a good time for me. I just turned 27 and feel like I've only begun scratching the surface of how to better myself and become healthier and better adjusted. It's cool to hear Tim speak so candidly about his experience. And of course Matt has loads of insight and is super supportive because of how much he has integrated these positive practices in his life.
This was such a great interview. Just two dudes vibing. Both from great bands
what a legendary interview of such legacy. i was such a huge fan of matt and corey back in the metalcore days. and now tim is the new school. ive been into polyphia since 2012 or so
Love this interview!
These two are awesome people!!!
Ahww,... i feel like we just got through the introduction part.
You 2 have a great vibe, just chatting and actually listening to each other. Please try to schedule more time next time. ❤
Matt and Tim are two of my all time favorites. This is beyond cool to see.
This interview was soooo good. Two ultra talented guitar players talking about life things, being total humans. I dug this so much! Ashtanga yoga, checking that out now....
love this interview
❤ this is a great video. Enjoyed every bit of it guys. ❤❤
This chat was very interesting, I love this. more like this. or a Polyphia/Trivum tour in the UK please?
Loved the interview that Tim did with Matt. Tim is such a great interviewer and just let Matt talk about whatever he liked to 😂
this was awesome, thanks
The part where tim says that talking to matt has kind of reaffirmed how he's been doing until now is basically this interview for me. I'd love to see these two share experiences/advice again.
Great interview !
Cool interview. Tim seems like a pretty down-to-earth fella. It would have been cool to get into the dynamics in the band and between two lead guitarists. I always found that difficult to navigate when I played in bands. We were always arguing cause most of us had to work to keep up with our most talented player.
I love that the man and band that got me into Metal is interviewing my modern Guitar Hero. So surreal!
The long delay at the beginning where everyone was fumbling with their social medias was really nice and insightful lol. I should try out for digital content positions.
no words. a wonderful start to a life long friendship
Lovely chat
Great interview, it’s cool to hear Tim talk a little more about his background
It was cool to hear Tim talk in between Matt listening to himself talk.
I would’ve listened to this for 4 hours. I want more, immediately
First the interview now we need the collab
The thing I love most about this is that I'm hapa too (Chinese/English) and I resonate with both experiences on both parts here - mainly Matt's experiences growing up and the military father (mine was in the Royal Air Force) but also Tim's experiences with discovering music from such a young age!
Obviously, I'm not famous or successful whatsoever, like these two but it's cool that I can still relate to parts of their upbringings.
Also, fun fact: the koi becoming the dragon is actually a traditional Chinese mythology story from the dragon's gate of Yellow River (China's 2nd longest river) 😄
Were we supposed to see the first 5 minutes? haha. Either way, love these guys. Such nice dudes and amazing musicians.
This was like watching 2 brothers just talk about sharing what they love. Really good watch.
I find it really fascinating that Tim will sing every single note in his head when he’s playing guitar, because there’s something about his guitar playing, which is very easy to sing along to fascinating stuff
Matt and Tim having a conversation is awesome. Hopefully I can soak up some guitar talent from this too haha. 🤘
Was so happy to hear Matt mention Rodrigo y Gabriela
Oh fuck yeah I didn’t know they did this! I’m so excited to watch it haha
My two favs❤️🔥
Burnt toast theory! thanks I needed to hear that. So inspiring!
great perspective
Great to hear you guys talk about not fitting because of the mixed heritage and that helped push tou further in your art
Brilliant conversation.
I discovered Polyphia in 2018, I think via Spotify, the New Levels album - I’d never heard anything like it before.
I then proceeded to tell anyone I met about the band including playing it over and over on Bluetooth speaker at every festival I’ve been to since. Everyone who heard them loved it, usually by asking “who the fuck is this band?”.
I’ve met TH before. He stuck around after a show in 2018 when Polyphia was climbing. I’m glad to see that he’s still a gentleman and a shredder.
LOVE THIS 🔥👏🙏
love thisss
Dude I'm 51 years old, been trying to play for years. Wife classic violinist. You got the name, the sound, technique, and all the rest. Cool band name and awesome players...
Tim, look into Taoism. All the philosophy you're getting into is strongly tied to Taoist philosophy.
This whole conversation is exactly what I needed to remind me to get back into Ashtanga yoga! The universe has been hinting at it and I'm finally answering the call thanks to your conversation. Thank you guys 😊 Stay wholesome
Two GOATS one video.
I've noticed getting high helps me focus on menial stuff and honestly makes me feel like I play better overall. I have ADHD so its kinda hard to focus on and practice the more boring stuff.
Tim Henson makes metal music for Pop fans that’s definitely going to make him very famous in the future
Check out the band Wagakki, they're a Japanese metal band that mixes in a lot of classical Japanese instruments and vocal techniques.
I love both of these guys and have been a fan of both for years. This just isn’t the kind of interview I was hoping for. I would have loved to have heard more about the musical side of their careers. Honestly, I wish Tim got a bit more air in the interview.
All of that aside, I still love the massive influence both of these gentlemen have had on music. I’ll be looking forward to seeing the next one.
Great to see these guys chop it up. Also true is Matt could benefit by letting the guest speak versus chiming in with his own point of relevance (“thats like when I….”). When he provides his own stories, we want to hear that too, but mix them in more sporadically so it doesn’t stop the flow of the convo. Thanks for making a great video Matt 🤘
I think having a more personal one is cool once in a while. Tim has had dozens of interviews already where he talks about the musical side of things
@@SK23. love the personal stuff. Weed yoga flow state where he came from etc - “origin story” as advertised. Great interview.
I just felt like Matt kept trying to steer the conversation in this halvsie direction and it seemed like Tim, while being nice about it, didn't give a fuck. That's the main thing I noticed. No hate on either of them. They're both great and huge for the guitar world but some awkward moments for sure.
@@joshshultz1250 Definitely. No hate on Matt at all, but it shows how much the two generations differ. I think for Matt the times made that identity sort of define him, but for Tim it's pretty much whatever, or a conscious choice that it's not part of his identity at all.
I love that Tim is a big ol potty mouth like me lol. Great interview!
Man this is wholesome
Hatha yoga is incredible. I took a semester in college for credit. It was the best decision ever. Totally recommend it.
I could totally see these guys becoming friends. They seemed to really have a great conversation and connection!
two dope dudes. Love Trivium since 2005 and Polyphia
PS - Japanese metal is on another level. Probably chinese too but i havent knowingly heard any groups from there.
Tim Henson try not to call Chinese instrument a soup ladle challenge.
Impossible level.
Lmao
press and hold down the space bar to scroll through your text better < 3 makes a world of difference.
Try ElPotro in Orlando bro, pretty good and Authentic.
I love POLYPHIA the band name - it's beautiful, unique and just perfect
Powerwolf shout-out! 🤘🤘 Love that band.
Shout out Despised Icon baby!!
Tim saying british is hilarious 😂😂😂 he looked so disappointed
around the 50:00 mark where Tim is talking about using weed to reach flow state is similar to my experience too. I've played guitar for 12~ years or so before using any THC and there were times I just wasn't inspired and it felt like a chore to even play my guitar. When I've used THC and practiced, I hit flow state immediately.
Ive had the exact same experience! It isn't really practicing music theory - although there are ways of doing it - but I highly recommend playing Rocksmith while using THC. I honestly know zero theory but my technique has gone completely wild through Rocksmith
I love this girls guitar playing!
This is crazy my two favorites together
29:13 I always say Trivium is my Metallica.. Glad to see I am not the only one 😅
Good chat. :)
This was awesome. Will definitely give yoga a try.
This is such a fun chat. I love how Matt's kids love metal. My 7 yr old does too. I always worry she'll repeat some kind of "offensive" metal lyric at school. But I also just don't care. 😂
Henson always looks like he has a floating head with that neck tattoo of his covering his neck
Just wow..
Yesss Tim giving props to the Hercules soundtrack. Criminally underrated 😂
Does anyone know where I can get the sweater Tim is wearing here?
we have to get a clip of tim henson playing violin now lol
12:06 For anyone who doesn’t know, when Tim mentions Love Yourself by Justin Bieber- Ed Sheeran actually wrote that and let Justin have the song. The original lyrics, in true English fashion were F**k yourself 😏 It was in an Apple Music biography type video.
Ye we all just piloting this flesh mecha once
love seeing other successful halfos in the world.
Guys I don’t see that stream on twitch from any of their twitch accounts. May be you guys have links?
WARNING: Kids, you don't HAVE to get HIGH to be in the present moment!! Breath work is a way to get you there. There are PLENTY OF GUITARITS and musicians who can play at master level completely sober! Geez Tim! That was an irresponsible statement.
Damn that gate on matts microphone is killing me.
Gaddam, I don't think I would have noticed if I hadn't read this 😂
@petersoar2886 I apologize for bring it to your attention. It's brutal.
@@captainconvulsion IT'S OK MATT, THE SOUND OF YOUR BREATHING ISN'T THAT BAD!
We just found out my dad is Chinese. He was told he's Mexican his whole life, so we extra don't fit in. Half my family speaks Spanish for no reason haha.
Edit: We should have known, cause he looks 80% like Jackie Chan
That's crazy haha 😆 Spanish is a good language to know though 👍
This guy reminds me of Strawberry from Up in Smoke movie.
my dog was going nuts until i put this on and then we went and layed down....he has amazing taste
those russian classical teachers are no joke, used to get my hands hit all the time in piano lessons.
And next Matt and Tim Yoga live at soon 😍📌📌📌
I feel like I just watched a lifelong friendship form in real time
Tim is a total sorcerer. I wish I had half his ridiculous level of talent.
