- This is my transcription for a medley of licks that Paul Gilbert played during his interview with Rick Beato (including his cover of the Rocky theme!). Some amazing stuff!

Amazing to see Paul still be engaged and excited about playing guitar the way he does. His enthusiasm is infectious, especially when he plays the simplest of things like just a regular pentatonic lick that he's probably played millions of times, literally. He still gets joy from bending and vibrating a note like when he was a kid learning the guitar.
To be honest with you I have been getting worried about Paul Gilbert lately... And whether or not he still had some of that wild man left in him... He does 👍
PG is just honestly insane… the best ever
Not sure what's more ridiculous: the crazy shtuff he plays... or that fact that some psycho was able to tab it out.
Paul still got the Shred.👌 I thought he's now a more blues based rock player since he abandoned the 24 fret PGM guitar. Cool licks and the 0:01 to 0:03 is a rip-off of Yngwie's favorite intro opening lick on his live concerts. hahaha.😂 Nice!🤘
thanks very much for this
He's still got it 😮 taking me back to Racer X times 🍻
How do you synchronize the tab video to the actual video, so that the cursor is exactly correct?
You need the latest version of Guitar Pro that allows you to insert audio and tweak the markings.
@@Always_Guitar thanks!
I kinda feel for the guy. I wish he would get a bit more into what he’s doing and have some fun.
😂
Not even close to his 86-89 technique.
I think it just sounds different because he is not using normal rig.
Paul is one of my all time favorites. I went to MI after high school in large part because of him. This is awesome, but not even close to some of his real shred stuff. He has gotten way more of a vocal style to his melody playing in the past decade or so though, which I love (and still can really rip). He’s expressive in the way old blues guys are, messing with the intonation and 1/4 step bends and what not, but while really having his own voice. As big of a fan as ever.
im sure he has no interest in doing exercises to a metronome for 30 hours a day anymore, can't say i blame him
Well duh
I love me some paul gilbert, cause he has some great shred and sense of melody in his writing, but this is exactly the kind of guitar playing that sounds like garbage. It's just impressive noise, and unfortunately, is litered throughout his music. Like yeah, it takes a lot of skill, but it sounds like crap
He’s just messing around
"Impressive noise" really captures this type of pseudo music, the pinnacle of shred. Aside from this type of doodling, Paul is really good when it comes to real melodic music too.
