I have spent the last 12 winters in Tucson riding with friends on road and off, due to a serious back operation I’m stuck in Indiana recuperating. I’m envious of your good times, I hope to be back there again soon on my 2018 bmw R1200RT.
Just got my 2015 RT back from the dealer today in Scottsdale. They did the normal annual check and replaced the driveshaft on the recall from BMW. I was a little shocked as the bike only has 12000 miles on the bike and BMW said they cover the 12k and 24k greasing of the DS and will replace at 36k. Dealer decided to replace it early I guess. Thanks for the great video showing some great rides…..might head down to Bisbee, AZ
That is excellent that they took care of it ahead of the mileage recommendation. I'm sure that makes you feel pretty good about how BMW and their dealers are handling this. Have a fun ride to Bisbee!
Looks like a great day for riding. Lots of great roads in AZ. I’ve done Kit Peak and Mt Lemmon both my RT and GL 1500. RT was the best on those roads but the 1500 did a great job also. Thanks for posting. Brought back lots of good memories of riding in AZ.
Nice video Mark. Any day on a bike beats the best day in the office. I ride a K1600 GTL. It is a beast. It also drinks a pint of oil every 600 or so miles. How does the RT far with maintaince etc. They say BMW stands for Bring More Wallet. So I guess I shouldn’t complain. Stay upright
Hi Ron-Thanks for the question and your comments. Glad to hear you are on a K1600. Love that motor. Doing an oil change on the K1600 was a little tricky with getting the second drain plug out. (Never wanted to drop that inside) I like working on the RT as I find it pretty straight forward for oil changes and rear diff service. I did receive a letter from BMW about a week ago that they are changing the maintenance schedule on the driveshaft. I did a story about that too on my channel if you'd like to watch. ua-cam.com/video/yHsk3fXZf_Y/v-deo.html
Did you have to do any "file to fit" for you camera mount? I bought one very similar, on Ebay, to yours and it needed so work to get it to fit. The one I bought is very soft metal.
Good afternoon. No extra fitting required to make it work on my 2017 RT. There are two aluminum bushings-one for each side- that fit between the wind screen trim and the actual mount. Two longer screws were also provided that take the place of the OEM wind screen screws. Sorry to hear you did not have an exact fit mount. I've been very happy.
Good catch. Yes it is. Here is what AZ DOT says- "The US 80 route that once serpentined across the bottom half of the state is more or less the same alignment as portions of I-10, I-8, State Route 77, State Route 79, US 60 and State Route 85. " Cheers.

Thanks for adding to the conversation. Most importantly, please have a great recovery and return to riding. Merry Christmas, Jim!

Is “old Rt 80” the same as AZ 79?
