    You are right on spot with this one. I purchased a 2024 Africa Twin ES DCT in September; I was so impressed by the DCT, I went out and got a 2024 Goldwing DCT in November. With the exception of small duel sports, I am pretty sure I will not go back to manual on the larger bikes. I remember when I first got the Africa Twin I had a drink in my left hand and not having to find a way to secure it when I came to a stop: don't sound like much, but I really enjoy that extra freedom.

      That is so great to hear! Thank you for sharing your perspective on the DCT. Even as Honda says, "DCT provides you more bandwidth." Love it.

    It took me years digesting information about Honda DCT. I ended up pulling a trigger on a 2025 AT AS DCT.. I just want to give it a try and see how it works.
    Now I have few long and cold winter months here in Canada waiting for the bike and preparing for the first ride..
    I agree with all your points. And I am very excited to give it a try...

    Hi,
    I bought 2014 a Honda CTX 700 ND with DCT. Obove this first generation DCT isn't good at low speed I'm happy to have it.
    On the next Bangkok Motorshow I will buy a new bike to replace the CTX. Not sure yet, a BMW GS 900 Adventure or an Africa Twin. If it is the Twin it will be sure with DCT.
    In Europe I'm riding a BMW K 1600 B with original BMW quickshifter, need the cludge only to start in 1st gear. Very impressive system, too. But the DCT is something complete different.
    In my opinion the DCT is everywhere as good as a manual or better, never any disadvantige. Ok, one: You had to pay for this extra.😂
    Regards from Thailand

    Good video! I just turn 60 this past year. I’m also hoping for many many more years of riding. Got to think of the future moving forward. The DCT is the future moving onwards. I currently ride a 2014 HD road king and 2018 BMW GSA. Keep up the good work!

    Great video Mark. Although I have a 6 speed Goldwing, I can see why people like the DCT. Never know, I could end up with a 2025 Goldwing Tour DCT yet!! It looks like Honda has put a lot of thought into the DCT African Twin. Happy New Year my friend.

    • @MarksGarage17

      Honda has had the DCT transmission going for a while now. 9 years on the Africa Twin. I'm very comfortable taking my Gold Wing with DCT 2000 miles away from home. Electronics are now part of most bikes, like cars, so I think we will be fine. 99% of the time!
      Happy New Year your way!

      Ok, flat front tyre, no DCT problems.

    Thumbs up. So, if you are riding one up, do you ever ride the GW vs the AT? Also, why not the '24 AT Adv Sports?

    • @MarksGarage17
      @MarksGarage17  4 дні тому +1

      Thanks for the comment/question, Terrell-So the current answer about GW vs AT is, I don't know yet! The AT is in route from Honda to my dealer. We will be doing an uncrate and assembly video when it arrives. So that may be a fun future video. Regarding your second question-Honda made such nice improvements to the base model for 2024, that the price difference and lighter weight-and the color-was just more appealing to me. Cheers.

      @terrellgarren7125 4 дні тому +1

      @@MarksGarage17 Comparision's between your GW and AT would be good content. Obviously, very different bikes. But how much of the GW comfort can be made up for by the AT's weight, maneuverability, versatility, and ease of maintenance. Looking forward to it.

    Great video with very useful information.
    Suggestion: They need to put it on the U.S. version of the Transalp.
    For some of us vertically challenged 30-inch inseam the A. Twin is just too tall and too heavy.
    The Transalp is just a better fit for a lot of us.
    Question: Why buy the DCT if you have to drag a break ay low speed when you can buy a Rekluse clutch and achieve the same or better ride at low speeds on a variety of different bikes?
    Off road is all about low-speed technical control and the Rekluse clutch systems start at $700.
    At higher speeds you just aren't doing that much clutching anyway, so why would I need the DCT?
    Not trying to be negative as I do think the DCT is a step in the right direction, and I have owned 3 Hondas, so I am a Honda fan.
    I am just saying they need to consider the competition and the pricing given the alternatives.
    Maybe you could do a video on the differences of the Rekluse clutch's and the DCT clutches.
    I am very curious to see if I am missing something that is a game changer.

    Great video, Mark! I'm a big fan of the DCT and have had two bikes with it myself (CTX 700 and a Goldwing). The CTX was a lane splitting weapon when I was in CA, as you could focus on riding and not focus on shifting. On the Wing, I found it really useful for reducing fatigue on longer rides, but I found sport mode to be too abrupt at low speeds. Manual worked best for me in the twisties. I now have two Triumphs, a Tiger 900 GT Low Ride Height and a Scrambler 400X. I'm thinking about trading the Tiger for an Africa Twin Adventure Sport ES DCT. My only fear is that it's a bit tall for me (I'm 5'7" with a 29" inseam). The Tiger has a 32" seat height and the AT has a 33" seat height and is about 75 lbs heavier. How manageable do you find the AT from that perspective? Thanks!

      Hey Andrew-Thanks for the comments and question back my way. The answer you ask is forthcoming....only because my new Africa Twin is enroute! Honda decided to update the ECU for the Wheelie Control software at their warehouse. I believe it is done and now on the way to the dealer. Once the bike arrives at my dealer, I'll be doing another video on the uncrating and assembly on the AT. Should be fun. PS-I did sit on a '24 AT Base DCT in a Honda Showroom and found it to be good for me. Boots flat. I'm 5'10" with 32" Inseam. Hope all of this helpful to you and congratulations on your great rides!

    I’ve a 22 DCT AS1100…. It’s a great bike …… until….. you need to manoeuvre in a tight space, especially on a loose surface, and or a slope…. It’s a dangerous bike in those situations…. Hate mine , absolutely brilliant if you ride on wide safe highway….. for my sort or riding… no way !

    DCT is boring. I bought a Honda 250 Recon with a foot shifter in 2022, and then a Rancher DCT in 2024. Whenever I ride, I always gravitate to the smaller ATV; its more engaging. I think motorcycles are meant to be operated fully in the original form with a clutch, no quick shifter, no traction control and no ABS. Otherwise, you're not really riding, you're just steering a couch down the road. I have a quick shifter on my new 2024 V-Strom 1050; I turned it off before leaving the dealers parking lot and have never used it. Of course, I'm also a guy who prefers a stick shift in my truck over an automatic, so.... I guess to each their own!

      Wow, I'm riding in Thailand a 2014 CTX 700 with DCT. 10 1/2 years and much more than 100k miles, no problems. I may want to buy a Twin with DCT on thenext Bangkok car show. You may can tell me more about your experiances with DCT?
      DCT is oil sensitive. Do you changed the engine/DCT oil and filled in the new oil with correct spec.? Honda Pattaya filled in once wrong oil and it was ... shit. After 500 miles I realized the mistake, changed the oil and all was perfect again.
