  • Alex takes this century old post office counter and gives it a wonderful ebonised finish, secures the rickety frame, and adds a perfectly aged leather top.

    I'm really dissapointed with Alex propagating the fiction that he is applying french polish. It is literally just shellac out of a can that he is brushing on (and not very skillfully at that). French polishing is a technique of applying shellac with a tampon and assisted with mineral oil and pumice. It takes years of practice to become proficient. I am a professional restorer and the work that is performed for the show really disturbs me. My girlfriend tries to keep me from screaming at the tv(don't get me started on the veneer patch segment).

    Really clever. As much as I like Drew and T and their journeys and haggling / banter, I think the real stars are Alex and Craig (and the boys at his shop / warehouse ) who are all just so talented. This table and that Chesterfield sofa are seriously impressive work.

      that chesterfield sofa and the desk seemed not financially worth doing...
      although it was nice to see them fixed up and not discarded in the trash heap.

    When gluing fragile pieces try wood glue and crazy glue with accelerator - sets up fast and no brace needed. I just use a small amount of crazy glue and wood glue both sections to fit. Spritz a bit of accelerator on the outside area which has been glued and done. Remember to wipe off excess accelerator. The setting time is about a minute and the results are amazing!

    Man you’ve got to know quite a bit about restoring furniture to get a good result. I didn’t realize how much effort goes into bringing something back. And sounds kind of expensive 🙂

    It's shellac. French polish is a technique of applying shellac.

    That french polish jar has acquired a shape of its own, over the years!

    I blow hot and cold with the work done by Alex. Some of the woodwork in this and the leather fit was a bit shoddy even given the piece itself is primitive. Cheap PVA, not a great glue. What do in know though...

      Vincent Smidowicz . The full episode was repeated on tv recently. I watched him remove a piece of wood that was nailed and screwed to the desk using a hammer. A real craftsman.

    Did the restoration cost more than the item was worth? I'm sure your repairman
    would be compensated properly!
    I don't see it being cost effective at all.

      I mean the money they would make from the episode being aired would make the restoration economically viable. They might break even on the item itself but the content they are now able to air on TV makes the money.

    I wish the camera would show more of the work and less the person's face. When i know who is talking and pure information is given about something his hands are currently working on, it’s not his face i should be watching. ,!!!! ?????

    Ok.Drew, your car show not as popular as your usual good choice's it's an easy fix and a higher pay off if you were to convert your choice of car to electric.

  • @markpape6565
    @markpape6565 6 років тому

    The electric motors will bring the price of most car up by about 15 to 20 thousand more than it's petrol or deasil equivalence. The slight increase in performance in what could be every car, plus the moderisation of brake's and handling mean all car's will be improved for future generation. Plus plus economical per mile, cheap.
