Restoring A Victorian Police Pillar Lantern | Salvage Hunters: The Restorers

- Drew brings in a vintage Victorian Police pillar lantern that he wants restored to preserve a piece of British social history, as well as make a tidy profit on the side. The restoration, however, is challenging as it needs a lot of work and replacing the glass panels in the same style requires a complicated etching process.

Nice that there are still people around with the skills to bring an object like that back from the brink!. Nice one!
Not only the wrong shade of blue, (which ANY Brit would immediately recognise) but the letters are too big... They should ALL be clear of the frame. And they should be on 3 sides. Apart from that... Perfect!
Yes bit of a violet hue about it, I thought.
Pity they didn't get it right!
I watch a Thames Mudlarker, Si Finds. He found a dumping ground for the old London lamp Posts. It seems that the cast iron ones would be of interest to someone like Drew.
As someone already commented, the original stained glass was a more purplish blue than the original. Not sure if it was just the camera playing tricks on the video?
True craftsmanship! A lovely bit of history saved.
Wow! Wonderful to see the skills of the restorers. As always, Drew has a great eye for unique items.
It would have been if we'd seen any of it, all we saw really was a bit of sandblasting, Drew also appears to colour blind as that new glass was almost black even with the light on it was too dark.
You have a brown nose
Drew didn’t seem 100% happy with it, definitely the brighter original blue would make the piece 10 times better.
She's fantastic, and gorgeous too!
Hi Drew, your channel is Amazing!! Ive never seen so many beautiful Treasures!
Great work, congrats!!!
The glass looked Black to me. Not at all like the original BLUE, it should have been. I call that a Fail. IMHO
the original blue was way better.
Wrong colour bulb and glass. Still have the exact designs left outside closed London police stations but with now clear glass
So talented!!
You need to add CC for those of us whom lost our hearing fighting your wars!!!
Awesome renovation and hat's off to the lass! As to Dick Prickard the name says it all.

I love colour with a 'u', too!
Enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Drew you are amazing
amazing work
Excellent! Many 👍
The blue glass looks black ! Great job, but that isn't really the look as far as I understand ...
Looks good with the light inside, nowadays you have to go with what you can get for restorations and it's still far better than the blue glass paint I've seen on some restorations of these over the years.
FAB👀❤️
If I were them I’d make a spare just in case
The glass really lets it down, wrong colour looks black rather then blue and also the lettering is to big it over laps the edges, restoring or bodging?
The new font is a tad too big as the bottom part of the letters are in the frame, the blue is a little too dark, nonetheless, it is a nice piece if one has the space for it, Personally, I would have held off for the lettering and included it in the price and let the new owners place their own storefront logo or name of the business on the glass. I don't really see the value of the "Police" lettering, Jolene is rather charming.
I’d like to meet the person who will pay three grand for that - I’ve got a bridge to sell them.
hahaha
Why do people watch these videos if all they intend to do is criticize and be ugly. Some people truly do have ugly attitudes.
Really. Its not the finish they had in mind.

Oh yes really affective 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
08:07 Police text was way too big and placed to low and the wrong font. When using a stencil and sandblaster the only excuse is stupidity.
Fimbles 1011, you mean “ too low”, not “ to low”. Totally different meanings. Only excuse is stupidity.
Glass is way to dark lol
Drew le tanışmak istiyorum onu devamlı olarak izliorum
anyone else got a Doctor Who feel
it's not even blue!
Fail. The restoration looked very little like the original.
PP Lamp
£3k+ for that, some people have more money than sense, not original, restored with the wrong colour glass, fake etching, not acid like original, how he manages to get folk to pay these ridiculous prices is beyond me, he is a bit of a snake oil salesman.
you never talk budget w/ your crafts people. ?? Blue might signify safety in england, but here in the usa, it signifies danger.
.....☝❤🎅
Nah I wouldn't be happy with that.
Surely you could have measured the original lettering size and position and matched the glass colour. What a disappointment of a restoration project.
bodge job
The letters are cut off. The color way off. An epic failure. Sorry.
Have a look at the staining on the original panel - the frame covered up a percentage of the letter edges when it was first produced. Now the letters *may* have become just slightly oversized with sand blasting (doesn't look like it as the edges are VERY sharp BUT it's easily better than I could have done and is far more period than the blue glass paint I've seen used on some restorations.
