    Update: My local hobby store contacted their Horizon Hobby rep and got it squared away. We basically requested all necessary part numbers to build NEW rear shocks ground-up. Months after buying this buggy, my local hobby store had ~5 or so newly in stock. All of them have the same issue with +/- 4mm on rear shocks...
    We also got a pack of bearings to account for the one that was missing...

    I went with the Kyosho. For begginers the sensored motor won't make a difference

    Seems a bit of poor qc on horizons part. Other have been complaining about the difs leaking out of the box as well. Im considering buying this kit but might have to give it some more thought now. Thanks for the info. I look forward to the update.

      I would only recommend this RTR if building the kit is out of your price range. Too many issues out of the box, plus parts are hard to come by. A decent amount of parts are on backorder through horizon because this RTR is based on the old TLR kit...

    Seams like the Quality control on assembly is not up to the task yet. Did they accidently mount a rear shock on the front? Really sounds like the guys in the assembly line are not working like they should.

    • @smurfwithavette
      @smurfwithavette  5 місяців тому

      They did not. Both rear shocks are unique lengths (not similar to the front shaft size). Horizon sent me a new rear shock shaft. It was a completely different length than what is currently in BOTH rear shocks! But we will get this one squared away. Will update you guys.

    Never take nothing for granted ,always check everything, even though it may you need to take the whole buggy apart and check everything, bolt by bolt screw by screw

      100% agree! I think this will be my plan moving forward on anything RTR. I check my BNF planes in and out when new, no reason I shouldn't start doing the same on my RTR cars.

    I had it with mine on the rear left outher side.

    Our xe rtr was missing a rear outer bearing. Didn't expect it to be a common issue like this. Horizon made it right, though, like they always do.
    As for the shock, probably mixed up front and rear shafts during assembly.
    I'd hardly consider any of this catastrophic.

      Interesting how you were also missing a bearing!

    I was contemplating buying this but i settled for the kyosho mp10e readyset

    • @smurfwithavette
      @smurfwithavette  5 місяців тому +2

      Ya know, the only thing I would be missing with that mp10e is the sensored motor. I think you have a good buy there 👍.

      Kyosho is good, had castle 1515 / esc I bolted up to it and runs great. But even stock the Kyosho was good out of the box.

    Where did you get the hex tools for the dewalt ?

    Sucks but I’d hardly call this catastrophic. About one in 3 RCs I buy I have to rebuild a shock or two. No big deal, usually the oil weight isn’t right for my driving style anyway. The XE should have 30wt rear and 35wt front IMHO anyway. The missing bearing is lame, but I’m sure they would make it right.

    • @smurfwithavette
      @smurfwithavette  4 місяці тому

      Catastrophic is a relative term, agreed. Definitely not the end of the world but I sure want to share my experience and visibility on the issue. Im messing around with weights. Taking a while to get my diff fluids dialed in for the high grip outdoor track.

    I got mine a couple of months ago, two runs an issue. Runs at Novi RC track. Various stuff was loose, rear shocks needed a lot of oil out of the box. I think mine are same length, I had horrible driveline vibration on start of second run. Also uneven acceleration, may be bearing and/or even bad diffs. Haven’t addressed these new issues yet. No obvious visible damage. Terrible quality, I know stuff isn’t perfect in this hobby but this is just junk. RTR should be just that, should not have to spend hours fixing stuff out of the box. I’m almost ready to unload it and just sell for parts and maybe get a Tekno kit eventually. I’m really over Horizons bad quality of recent… Out of my last 5 cars from them, 3 had numerous issues…
    I have the 8 elite kit I built a bit ago, few issues with it. Spare time for me is limited with work and work travel, etc so just little time to build kits. Like a kit now and again, or a decent roller/slider but also don’t mind a RTR if it’s made decent. Also few issues with my Arrma TLR typhon. My backup truggy now is my 1:8 Serpent Truggy (RTR) is running now, many runs and only one small repair, stock besides a new receiver/transmitter and tires.

      @@mzrzfxr We go to Novi as well! Neighbor and I were just there yesterday with our 8ight xe's. It's a great track.

      @@smurfwithavette absolutely! I’m near there, it’s fun and well maintained. Two more weeks to enjoy it this season!
      Too bad about Hines track, fun to bash but it’s pretty rough shape.

    This isnt the real Losi 8ight anyways so it’s going to break

      Hmm. I think what your seeing here is stuff not assembled correctly from factory.

    That is disappointing. My son contemplated about this losi rtr or Hobao vs2 rtr.

      Kyosho MP10e Readyset. Problem solved

    Noob. You probably have a bad seal. Who ever build it you don’t assemble the bottom cartridge fully tight then insert the shock shaft. You leave it loose and add oil on the threads when passing it through the seals. Those are the cons of buying RTR.
