    On my first pack running on dirt and loose rocks my ‘center drive shaft’ snapped in two. Seems like a weak point. Why do you say avoid aluminum upgrade? What is the downside?

    • @smurfwithavette
      @smurfwithavette 8 днів тому

      So during my first 10 or so battery packs, I also had my stock plastic driveshaft snap. I replaced with another stock plastic center driveshaft and it has held up fine after A LOT of abuse. I do not recommend an aluminum driveshaft because you are shifting the weak point to other drivetrain items that are not as easy to replace. If I were you I would try another stock plastic one. If you break another plastic one, then consider upgrading to aluminum. General rule of thumb: When upgrading to aluminum you are shifting the weak point to something else. You want the weak point on things that are cheap and easy to replace.

      @Nutz_forRCs 8 днів тому

      Ordinarily I would say that’s true but the driveshaft is telescopic so I figured it would have some give and not transfer the shock like suspension arms would. But I think going to go with plastic one more time makes sense. It’s only a $10 part. Thanks

I changed the exhaust to a Corsa sport also and it sounds sweet with no drone. I also changed the cabin air filter and the old one was filthy. I didn't think about the On Star fuse but I will pull it out. One thing you didn't mention is to check the harmonic balancer for wobble. It is a common problem on the LS2 and LS3 engines and can cause major problems if you ignore it.

    I ended going with an 84mm 5.4# spring up front and 90mm 5# spring in the rear with 50W oil front/rear. Front and rear have M2C racing 15mm spacers and the small clip spacer from Arrma. Ride height is perfect for me. Dampening on both compression and rebound is excellent. Track handling is a lot better and still has fast action for fast straight line bumpy terrain. Other mods include Ali aluminum center drive, Globact steering bell crank including servo arm. Globact aluminum pivot balls. Had the Globact servo saver as well but the spring is weak and it binds inside the housing causing tons of play in the steering. Put factory saver back in with aluminum arm. I'm a little wary of the center drive being aluminum but so far so good.

    Udders , not Utters…lol. My C5 had this bad design and it became plugged with the water filling the heater box, dripping down on the BCM and fuse box. I found it too late, not a happy camper. After finding the cause, I took a single edge razor and lobbed the end off, no more blockage. Just bought an 11 GS, have to check it out. Great vid, an important one as well. On my C5 the drain for the heater box was behind the cylinder head on the passenger side. I actually could only reach it by standing aside of the car facing forward, snaking my hand down to find the drain udder. It’s much smaller than the one for your wipers.

Which I just learned about last year after when that drained into my passenger footwell. Which is what you're referring to? Had a shop clean it while they had my Toque tube out. And wks. later it fell out in my garage. Is it ok to keep it out or can the condensation water still drain into my passenger floor?

    • @Teacher659
      @Teacher659 24 дні тому

      @@lorigilbert3173 Well, on my 2000 Convertible, it was leaking at the passenger footwell like yours, and actually getting into the fuse box and Body Control Module (BCM) next to it. It actually corroded everything, even my fuse box connections. The drain / udder I had issues with was on the passenger side firewall between the right rear cylinder head and wall itself. Snuck my hand down and cut the end off with a single edge razor. FULL dead bugs and leaf matter. Hope this helps.

      I am not 100% on this, but I heard that the skip-shift idea came to fruition to avoid charging customers the gas guzzler tax. So I’ve read a handful of reviews on Amazon, AMain and Tower Hobbies and there were as many one star ratings as all the others combined. Most of them had to do with missing diff and shock fluids and screw issues, over or under tightened, can’t recall. Basically poor QC issues. To be fair there may have been a dozen reviews total between the three sites. What is your opinion? Do you think these were rare, random bad kits shipped, even though they had the same issues? Is there QC issues with Losi/Horizon and this is more common, and concerning, than reported? I was 90 percent sold on this as a RTR but admittedly the reviews are lowering that percentage. I know RTRs aren’t top of the line primo and I fully expect to break and replace parts as time and crashes dictate. But what troubles me here are the out of the box complaints before a single minute ran. Sorry to ramble but I’m hoping to get yours, and anyone else who would like to chime in, opinions about the bulk of these limited reviews being mostly negative. Thank you :)

      So here's the good news. Its still a great buggy and Horizon has 10/10 customer service. I think these issues are ridiculous but likely valid. If you buy this buggy, just make sure you go through everything (tear down wheel hubs, diff/shock fluids, check meshes, ect). I would recommend checking out my latest video on this buggy, where I have run into several issues including a missing wheel bearing and different rear shock shaft lengths! Horizon sent me everything I needed to correct the buggy(s). ua-cam.com/video/HUF5OBoXGA8/v-deo.html Like I said, still a great buggy for the price in my opinion. Nothing wrong with a teardown out of the box (for new folks it would be a learning experience and for experienced folks it would give them peace of mind). Happy to answer additional questions about this buggy I have quite a bit of time on the track and wrenching around on it.

      @@smurfwithavette I appreciate your reply. I’ve built one kit, have another to do, rebuilt a lot of stuff I’ve broken and upgraded but there’s still plenty I don’t know. If I may with some questions … what weight diff/shock juice? I’ve only changed one pinion gear, don’t understand exactly how to check mesh. So far I’ve been “if the gears turn smoothly it’s great!” Is there something I should actually be doing? About the same time as your video here I saw another guy’s video and then his second where he speed tested it. Car ran great but had an annoying metallic whine, is this common? Or are his diffs dry? Haven’t seen any follow ups from him yet so not sure what he found if anything. With some reservations I’m probably going to still buy this buggy, already bought two batteries for a couple hundred in anticipation, really don’t want to switch to the Arrma or spend almost three times the amount to assemble a kit. Just kind of frustrated that out of all the vehicles I have, this will very likely be the first out of the box to be an issue. I appreciate your feedback, wish me luck! lol

    • @smurfwithavette
      @smurfwithavette Місяць тому

      @@Dirk_T_13 So on the fluids, its going to be personal preference and will depend on the track conditions. Track conditions include how wet/dry the surface is, and how grippy the surface is. I am on a outdoor HIGH grip track. It will take time and experimentation to understand how X change in diff or shock weight will change car characteristic wise. Just know that when tuning with fluids, its about finding the sweet spot. For example, thinner front diff fluid will increase off power steering and thicker front diff fluid will increase on power steering. You might not know YET what unstable off-power vs on-power steering feels like. I would buy a bunch of different diff fluids ranging from like 5k to 15k and experiment with different setups. I run 10-10-7 (10k front, 10k center, 7k rear) as a starting point and experiment from there. Trust me, you will notice a different when changing fluids, keep in mind that tires make a good deal of difference too (this might be a bit more advanced). Shock fluids are the same, takes time and experimentation, I run 47.5 front and 40 rear). Also keep in mind that everything here is personal preference. What combo that makes you go quick may not make another person go quick. Google "tekno Differentials-and-Gearing1.pdf" and you will see a 1 page guide on tuning diff/shock fluids. Now on the gear mesh, this is something that I always have found hard. A metal pinion on a metal spur gear is always going to sound 'bad' (like there's something maybe wrong when there's really not). Eventually you will know what it sounds like when it is REALLY bad, requiring immediate attention. Basically what you want to do, is hold the spur gear in place with 1 finger and wiggle the pinion with another finger. The pinion should have a VERY little amount of play. I am talking, just enough to see and hear a click as you wiggle it. Look up this 5 min video for a EZPZ guide: "Set Your RC Car Gear Mesh The RIGHT Way by DO RC"

    Sucks but I’d hardly call this catastrophic. About one in 3 RCs I buy I have to rebuild a shock or two. No big deal, usually the oil weight isn’t right for my driving style anyway. The XE should have 30wt rear and 35wt front IMHO anyway. The missing bearing is lame, but I’m sure they would make it right.

    I use one of these on a 6G Camaro Zl1, I’m in metro Detroit so lots of concrete dust and mess around here on the roads. You have to put it on a clean bumper and make sure you regularly clean the Novi stretch to keep it from damaging the finish. I hose it down with a little simple green, hang dry, let it dry in sun, put inside garage to keep it clean. My car is a weekend ride usually, so I clean the cover roughly each weekend and wash the car after the weekend usually. It does create a few micro scratches in certain spots, mostly buffs out. Of note if your going to put the power down, I’d not install use it while your doing that - it does ever so slightly restrict airflow. I usually keep an eye on my oil temps and when I see it going up at all, I take it off. Coolant temps seem the same on or off, does catch a lot of stuff, so it helps a lot.

    Noob. You probably have a bad seal. Who ever build it you don’t assemble the bottom cartridge fully tight then insert the shock shaft. You leave it loose and add oil on the threads when passing it through the seals. Those are the cons of buying RTR.

    All good info, I would have rather they charged another hundred or two more and keep the better chassis, few bits here and there. I’d immediately upgrade this for Pro Line positrons, at least for my local track (mostly slightly damp clay). Or I can just build the kit 🤷‍♂️ I’m at a quandary to just buy this (have a Serpent rtr truggy that needs some work and waiting - again, for parts) orrrr i know someone selling a Tekno ET48 slider that’s very lightly used… catch is pretty much need to buy everything, dude wants $500 🤷‍♂️ All that said I really don’t race much, just run laps at open practice, maybe race a few friends for lols…

      Agreed. If they priced this at $750ish and included more hop-ups, that would have been well worth it. I'm actually running positrons right now! Great tire on my local outdoor med-high grip track.

    That blind spot is not bad at all. I was actually really impressed how well I can see. Drive a newer Camaro. Those are bad.

      There are worse cars for sure. I've heard the Camaros are worse. The new Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato is impossible to see out of. They include a rear view mirror but you cant see out the back window anyways!

      I actually rented a Camaro while having some work done on my C6. I immediately hated it for this reason. I don't even find the C6 blind spot to be worth mentioning.

    I have seen a few guys that when they took the cover off there were a lot of micro scratches. Dirt and dust particles get under the cover and irritates the paint. Good luck hope you don't experience that.

      I've heard this as well. Sounds like regular washing of the bumper and hand wash of the mask is mandatory. In my case the front will be getting PPF'd in about a week. Still planning on using the mask to stop buildup of bugs on my way to a show. Thanks for the comment!
