Heroin was the drug of choice. According to Frusciante, he "was stoned for every single note I played on the album." That quote is about Niandra Lades. Watch some videos of him during that time. He was f-ed up quite a bit

Yeah he was stoned - on marijuana not fucking heroin .. John was not using smack when he recorded Blood Sugar or Niandra LaDes :/
